Geo Stelar
One-handed swords are very fast. You can make successive slashes with them, plus, if you wield two, you can be a deadly enemy. In two-handed swords the strength is buffed up a bit, and the speed decreases a BIT lower.Spears. If you wield a spear using one hand, it can be harder to control, and some enemies can get it from you easily. If you wield a spear using two hands, you control it easier and you can attack fasterSame for video games and such. So, what's your pick, and why?Slash or Stab...Knife or Fork...Axe or arrow...Sword or Spear? Vy'drach
I'd go with a halberd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halberd), essentially an axe/spear combo, very versatile, very deadly.
Asper Sarnoff
I prefer the bastard sword, which is somewhere in the middle between a purely two-handed and a one-handed sword. Lighter than the two-handed, but with just as long a hilt as it, enabling one to switch from using one or two hands when wielding it. I do think that is the ideal compromise in my case. evilwaffles
One handed sword. Speed is my game when it comes to fighting with weapons. And I can't use a spear for nuts.
Vy'drach
A bit off-topic, but a very effective weapon you found Heh, I love halberds (why I was sad when they took long weapons out of the Elder Scrolls Series in Oblivion, used to use spears/halberds all the time in Morrowind), they are versatile weapons, which is right up my alley for ideal weapon, as I like to get the most bang for my buck, when it comes to weapons. Kursed
out of these I'll hve to say the one handed sword with the option of dual wielding I always prefure the smaller lighter weapons specially in halo I always go for the less powerful weapon sure i take longer to take someoen out but at least i'm not wasting precious powerful scarce ammo. Sabre
They are different tactically. Bastard swords are for soldiers of the line. Spears are anti calvelry ect. Also, take a guess as to my prefered weapon.

Dublinthefox
I would choose both. I actually have a katana, a wooden buster sword and a short spear. I can't use both at the same time though. They're pretty heavy.
Scott7
Most one-handed Swords can be used as a 2 handed weapon as well, so I like both like them equally.
Braux
I think a 2 handed sword would work for me, with momentum it can be deadly. I guess the only problem is the lack of protection.

Another name for it is "One and a half hander", because it's considerably larger than most one-handed, but not as big as the enourmous longswords that came into use in the late medival ages. The blade mostly being a few centimetres short of a metre long. What's defined as a bastard sword also depends on how strong the user is. As a general rule of thumb, if a sword that one can wield with two hands, is light enough for someone to use it effectively single-handed, it can be classifed as a bastard sword. Ike of Fire Emblem being an example of this.

[...]It is typically double-edged, around 51inch long. Can be used to cut thought tought armours. It can used for trusting, but most weilders would swing it like a bat." Geo Stelar
I like both one-handed sword and spear. I like the fast slashes of the sword, and I love the penetrating goodness of the spearHmm.. I think I'm closer to the spear.Personally I pick spear.
Guest Scorpion03
as im absolutely useless with a spear, but have been trained to use a sword pretty well, my vote lies with the one handed sword
ThePointingMan
A sword with a spear dukt taped to the end, that's what I use.
Robert Monroe
These are two entirely incompaable weapons that use entirely incomparable discipline styles. Spears are often used on horseback, or in pike formations, where as swords are a martial art weapon. Two handed swords like the zweihander where meant to be a compromise between the pike and the sword. And this doesn't even bring into consideration the different STYLES of spears and swords.
