Dermot
Some people like hard ice cream, some people like softer ice cream, some people (like me) like soft and runny ice cream. Does the microwave come into play when you prepare your ice cream?
rebel_gunman
I don't microwave my ice cream since it blew up inside the microwave... then again, it was chow hall ice cream. Made by Devil Dogs with the finnest gun powder around. No, but really, only if its hard enough that a metal spoon won't scratch it.
Dermot
I think it was because I came from the island. We tended to have warmer indoor temperatures (more like 25C instead of 20C) and pretty humid, and I was always accustomed to runny ice cream. When I moved to North America, everything was drier and the ice cream was stiffer, so I came to like microwaving it for 10 seconds.
Sol-Ratcht Saporro
I tried it once and figured I'd never do it again. Usually I just let the ice cream stand at room temp. for a couple of minutes so the scoop/spoon can dig into it if it was too stiff. But I like stiff ice cream compared to mushy. Guest Para Astaroth
I've heard of something like this before, but I've never tried it. I just always like mine cold and soft, but thats how most people like it. I really haven't eaten any lately, which I'm glad of, and I just stick to just running to the end of my leash and barking, metaphorically speaking. Dermot
Remember. 10 seconds, no more. All it does is mildly heatshock the ice cream to soften it.

ThePointingMan
I did it once, I wanted to know what hot ice cream would taste like... It was AWFUL. Other then that, I usually just mix it with the spoon if I'm gonna do anything, which I usually don't, then it turns into a... paste? I dunno, something like a paste. Scott7
Only if i can't get the spoon inside. But i Never buy it from a grocery store anymore. I prefer to go to that local Ice-cream place which makes it homemade and they have both hard and soft served.
Konchaski
Never. I live up in the northern part of the United States, in what was considered America's Dairyland. If I wanted to get softer ice cream, I'd just go for frozen custard. However, I tend to go for more local foods in general, such as Cedar Crest. You're less likely to find frozen and hard stuff if you find the right kind. That and if you leave it out for about five minutes to thaw it's just fine. Mr. Fox13
I usually have ice cream every night. No one in my house eats it very often so I end up getting it all. Sometimes if I want a milk shake I'll microwave it-I'm too impatient to just sit and wait around till it thaws. :P
Vy'drach
No, our freezer in our second fridge has the temperature set perfectly for ice cream, it comes out perfectly fine for scooping.
