Its true.. But dwight (I think it was dwight) and I came to the conclusion that it was due to a disk or memory read error or some beta levels left there for testing. I told my friend to try and get his disc back because its THAT disk that he used to unlock them somehow.. But it was true..

Yeah, it was me. Nintendo is very good about not keeping secrets (of this magnitude) very long. In addition, I'm not calling your friend a liar, but I've had some experience with chasing down things in games that a "very reliable" source revealed and is "100% positive" that the trick will work/hidden thing is there. In my case, I went though literally hundreds of Pokemon sites looking for ways to catch Mew without going to a special event (the normal way) or cheating with Gameshark. Thing is, without some proof, it is all just hearsay. But, I will admit that there is a slight possibility that this is a glitch or even a real intended secret. So, I propose a neutral solution:

1. You and your friend get together and write down EXACTLY how the event occurred, what he was doing at the time, what stuff had been unlocked, and anything else he can remember about it.

2. Type up this information along with the question of "Is this a known secret and/or glitch?" and instructions to forward the letter to Namco if Nintendo doesn't know (unlikely in this case since Nintendo was in charge of the project).

3. Post the letter here, for all to see.

4. Mail the letter to:

Nintendo of America

PO Box 957

Redmond, WA 98073

5. You should get a response within a month. Post the reply here.

I think we can all agree that Nintendo would be the most informed party in this issue.

Hmm... From seeing responses from Nintendo to letters in the past, methinks you'll just get a form letter.

I'm also on the Nintendo forums and know plenty of people that have unlocked everything. I've yet to hear about any bonus missions. But to double check, I'll ask my buddies over there. Also I like those pics on the first page. The expressions on the character's faces in Adv are great.

Well, everytime I sent a letter I always got a very specific response. They didn't always know the answer, but they did answer it.

Dwight I just got some news from my friend. He had traded his starfox assault disk with his cousins from far away. He just told me that his cousins DID unlock those side missions. So it IS that disk that we must get. He says his cousins are coming this new year or he is going to their house but he's gonna get that disk (and memory card if possible) and I told him to bring that disk asap cuz i'm gonna screenshot and record all of this. Its time to finally prove it..

As soon as I see him online i'll ask him to ask his cousin more info about those extra missions (names, bosses, and stuff). But we will most probably be hearing about it soon here on SF-O with a lot of proof.

It is near impossible that if this is real that it exsists on only 1 disc.

Commercial optical discs are etched off of a master etched out of glass (the master is glass, the product is plastic) rather than burned with a CD-R type burner. This way is faster and allows them to make several discs in the time it would take even a fast CD or DVD burner to make one.

If there is an error in the etching process, the result would be an unreadable disc.

The master that made that disc had these things unlockable. Get the method of unlocking as well as any numbers etched around the inside of the disc. It is possible that the wrong master was used to maike a few batches of discs, and those numbers would help identify discs that are capible of this.

For instance, here are the numbers on my SFAs disc:

On data surface (back):

IFPI LL08 C04L21014 DOL-GF7E-0-00 USA S0 M2S2

On center (clear part) back:

PDSC CA IFPI V9G7 MADE IN USA

On center front:

IFPI V9F4

The IFPI is the International Federation of Phonographic Industries, so that number probably isn't important, but post it anyway.

For sure I want the number after IFPI LL08 (that same number is on my SSBM and SFAd discs too) and the DOL number.

Though the best way to prove if these missions exsist is to get someone to dig with an Action Replay. I would do it, but I do not know how to do it.

I called Eric and I told him to ask his cousin (when he gets online) more info on those missions and I also told him to ask his cousin that i'm willing to pay some good money for that disc. And yes I will post all the info possible once I get my hands on it.

Hmm...this sound like typical Nintendo...I have had THREE diffrent versions of Zelda for my n64, for example, and fave found several glitches that seem to be unique to each version of the cart. I do not have a GC (yet), but I have a decent computer, with an emulator, so I'll borrow assult and see if I cannot "stimulate" the results somehow. As far as I am aware, Nintendo still dose the multiple version thing that they made freaking famous with the N64...It is actually ment in part to foil us gamshark pepole, but they often seem to hurry the process, accidentally unlocking the "ester eggs" you see in some versions of some select popular titles. (for example, one version of Goldeneye has a motor bike, APC, and a tv remote hidden in it, in addition to a flamethower on the silo level, in order to get any of them, you need to have straight 0:00 times, yet have no cheats won, kinda impossible, but not with a gameshark)

SF64 acctually has the Lylatwars menu and options (languages) in it, but I can't remember the GS codes for it, it was long, anywas, get that disc, if you can get a version on it somehow I'll check the GS and hack sites...

Don't even bother emulating SFAs. It emulates poorly (as in not playable), even on high-end SLI machines.

My Windows machine is only three years old (2.2 GHz P4, 512 RAM) and it won't start the game. I hit run and nothing happens. Maybe in like 4 years normal computers will have the power to emulate a Gamecube in nearly real time.

Guest Mithos Kionisu

If the missions are indeed located somewhere within the code, then they should be accessable through action replay (just like you can access beta levels on super smach bros melee)

  • 3 weeks later...

I got some news (still don't have the disk tho). The guy who has the disk (Eric's cousin) already knows i'm interested in buying it and Eric (my friend who originally unlocked them) says that his cousin said that he's gonna think about it and Eric will give me his MSN address so i can talk with him about those missions and probably get at least some info (mission names, etc..).

I'm not... Thing is, look this is what's happening..

Originally my friend Eric had that disk. The one time he came to my house he noticed I only had 10 missions unlocked and he told me that he had 14 or 13 unlocked I don't remember and I looked everywhere on the internet but I found nothing and then I asked him how he got them and he told me so I got working. Some time later his memory card got lost with ALL his game saves.. I looked for it over here in my house but didn't find it. I finally gave up on trying to unlock them.. And I didn't talk about this for a while since everything was lost. He did find his memory card but guess where?? burried up in his backyard... Yep.. His stupid little cousins played with it.. He tried to get it to work but it just wouldn't load anything.. It was broken from the side and it was all dirty (he tried everything). And some time later (I think it was this christmas) he went with his cousins (like 3 or 4 hours from here) and he said he traded his SFAssault for Need For Speed Underground 2 and some other game with his cousns.. Then I never talked about it again.. Until he told me at school one day that his cousins said they did unlock what Eric had asked them about. Yes, they got the extra missions.. By that time I started taking care of getting my hands on that disk. Like dwight said, that disk has something unique in it.. and I told Eric to tell his cousin that I was interested in buying the disk. His cousin already knows i'm interested in it and I have his MSN address but he hasn't gotten online yet.. Eric says they usually come over here to cross the border into USA to go shopping so Eric said that when they come they'll bring that disk and give it to Eric and i'll give Eric the money. THEN will I get busy recording and screenshotting besides having an awesome addition to my collection O_o. And i've said before.. Eric is my best friend and he's never lied to me besides he's a very very talented gamer, he beat games like F-Zero X and GX COMPLETELY and I DO have proof of that.. I'm just waiting to get my hands on that disk.. and it'll be posted on a new topic.

so only one disk has the hidden missions on it? Once you get some pics of it post them asap.

It is extremely unlikely that only one disc has this, if it is indeed true. I have done external research on thing and got nothing. I'm skeptical.

Anyhows, as I've said before, mass-produced CDs are etched (or stamped in some cases) from a master disc made of glass. If the hidden material was on one disc, it was on the master meaning it is on every disc made with that master.

So that means, Dash's theory is... undecided? Because he's the only one I've gotten this from, and if it's true, and he shows us these... "stages" you know how big it would be? And why Nintendo would just hide these stages... well, hide is too common, I mean, completely bury these stages to where only one person could figure them out? I'll definitely start playing Assault again...

If they are there, they are levels that were intended to go in-game, but were omitted for some reason and the files for them weren't removed from the disc. His theory is dependant on some wacko glitch that will load these files.

I would be less skeptical of something like this in SFAd, where Rare didn't really clean house on the disc and left things to be found, including the sound file of Krystal asking Fox to kiss her, but Namco didn't leave much in SFAs in terms of unused stuff.

I have to agree with DZ on this one if somehow one disc has this hidden stuff then chances are all of them have this stuff as every disc is mastered from the "gold" disc. Until some real proof is shown I consider this info to be completly bogus.

I've just been told there is a possibility that Eric's cousins come this 14 of Febuary and they might bring the game disc if they get permission from their older brother (disc owner) who I think is studying in USA right now.
