Steve
It really depends on the age of the kid, if he is like....12 years old, sure, have some internet filters and some sort of surveillance. However, at 14-15, you should be able to tell whether "hey kid, what's your adress, I wanna come visit you" is good or bad
Redeemer
True... Kids aren't stupid, as long as they know what the dangers are.Maybe it's not a case of internet danger. Maybe falconman's parents just want him to have friends from school and church. Simple as that.
Guest Scorpion03
I think you could well be right Redeemer, i think a lot of parents have a sort of dislike to the internet as it tends to get bad press due to people using it who have no real friends or a life off of the computer, though i doubt there r really that many people like that. Redeemer
I actually do know some people like that, sadly enough.
"User"
I think you could well be right Redeemer, i think a lot of parents have a sort of dislike to the internet as it tends to get bad press due to people using it who have no real friends or a life off of the computer, though i doubt there r really that many people like that. And said parents can't be smart enough to form their own conclusions without involving the media in some fashion. It's sad really. I actually do know some people like that, sadly enough. My first GF's parents were much like that as well when it came to me since I was from another country but when I actually met them (And my GF) for the first time their disposition swung the other way :P
Kid_Cortet
Blame the state of the world."The internet, where women are men, and thirteen-year-olds are FBI agents."hearing of this entire topic has me thinking of Black-Eye Peas song "Where is the Love" ... the final verse
Falconman
"obey parents"...yeah i know that & because of this new rule i havn't been on a lot.Pm's & e-mailing people that i don't know from school, church, ect. is just as bad as talking to people on Xbox live (i'm allowed to do that at my mom's house)
Redeemer
But Xbox live is harmless unless you're going to say:"Hey, I'm such and such and I live at such and such an address, please come kidnap me. If I'm away that's because I'm at school, which is on such and such street. Can't wait to see you!"You poor guy. :(

Redeemer
Haha, have I encouraged you? I hope so! You have a right, you're what, 15? You're a young man, I believe you should talk to your parents about what you think is good for you or come to a compromise, not just take orders and feel miserable from it. Okay, I don't want you to do anything that will start something but maybe confide in your mum about it. If she's a little more willing to let you talk to people, she may come up with a good idea. :)

Steve
lulz it's more of self-essteam but i guess it's the same thing & i'm 13Well, it's kinda ok for your parents to be worried if you are only 13, but then again, let them know they can set your internet restriction to places that you are not supposed to be in, instead of completely banning you from almost everywhere. Redeemer
Oh, sorry I thought you were 15 because of the "97" in your username. 13 is pretty young, but still, this forum is harmless. Is your mum easy to talk to? Would you feel comfortable asking her for advice on this?
