Scott7
It's like when posts are deleted on an SMF forum...they don't get "deleted" per se they get moved to the Recycle Bin (in the KLA's case) or whatever that section is called where only the mods and up can see it. It's the same concept as PM's. I personally like having all my messages stored where I can look at them later...even years from now...for reminiscing or if I want to get the contact info of someone I talked with a long time ago. My thoughts exactly...

"User"
Hence with all the coinciding views...is it possible to just simply remove the limit DZ?
DZComposer
PMs are actually deleted. SMF feels that there are ethical issues with admins reading PMs.That said, I do not think there are ethical issues with it, I can still read them in the database if need be, so no PM harassment, M'Kay?As far as the limit, it stays. I put it in for a reason. Just because we have the disk space doesn't mean it is a good idea. There are enough posts in the database, I don't need 1000 PM inboxes again. The bigger the database, the longer it takes to back up the database. If for some reason you want to indefinitely save 60 PMs, you can always copy them into a Word document or something. Thanks to SQL's WHERE clause, I don't have to read the entire table.Something like "SELECT * from PMs WHERE user_id = 1398;" would show me only your PMs (it is actually a little more complicated, as PMs are actually stored across two tables, requiring a JOIN clause, but still doable in one line). In fact, the WHERE clause is what allows you to see only your PMs when you check them. SMF uses SQL to talk to the database.PMs are timestamped, as well, so if I can even limit it to PMs in the last day or week or hour or whatever. SQL is awesome.SQL makes working with data easier, as you do not have to write code to weed through data. Instead, use appropriate SELECT statements to get exactly what you want. Using stored procedures you can make complicated tasks easier to implement on-the-fly, much like creating a function in programming.

Sylum, clean out your inbox, it's full!Dark Knight, your inbox is full mon amie. Yet another reason to at least raise the limit of PM's perhaps? Not to sound obnoxious about this but I'm willing to bet that one of those "post random pictures" threads takes up a lot more MB when it comes to backing up the database then a ton of text pm's. We had something similar on the KLA where we had a topic like that (10 pages of it) and when we backed up the database (happens automatically every day) it made virtually zero difference. In the end, it really doesn't make a bit of difference and it can save people an annoying hassle of posting topics telling people to check their PM's
Asper Sarnoff
Dark Knight, your inbox is full mon amie. Is it? Didn't think admins or mods had inbox limits. I don't at least. Still, I'm trying to keep the amunt of PM's down, and just now deleted a dozen or so.
Redeemer
Asper could you tell DK I tried to PM him? It was a reply, quite important, and I don't want him to think I ignored him. I don't know if you have his MSN or whatever. :P
