Apprenticeships, be they in Canada or the US, or wherever, are pretty sweet!

Yeah, they are.  I know a half dozen people off the top of my head who have degrees and diplomas and can't find a good job of it.  Mainly they tell me they can't a job because of the current job shortage and that more employers are asking for prior work experience which, if you just finish school you have none to start with, making finding a job right off the bat tough.  As soon as you start an apprenticeships on the other hand you already are pretty much set, you have the work experience and can likely get into union job making at least $25 an hour with very good benefits.

So true, especially in America.  Slightly OT, but as great as Unions are, in my experience in trying to join ANY Union, I never got in.  Seems to me, you got to be the child of a Union Member, or save the life of a Union Member to get into a union (though that's probably just California).

But that doesn't mean you can't find work though apprenticeship/vo-tech/tradesman jobs.  Hell, my friend Fred does A/C and Heating installation and repairs and he does great.  I got another friend who's a roofer, and he does excellent.  (You'd be surprised how well a roofer can do, even in a crap economy, after all, people HATE leaky roofs!).

Vo Tech needs to be taught in schools more.

Why? What did you do?

Fighting, swearing, cutting classes, mouthing off to teachers, mouthing off to the principal, bad grades (learning disabled, though most of my crappy schools didn't care or didn't believe in learning disabilities).  Also, I'm half Asian, and a lot of my local schools are extreme bigots.

Don't take this the wrong way, but at my school nothing ever happens to people who do that.

My schools were more strict, they had a "Zero Tolerance Policy" for that kinda stuff.  California itself, and many of its schools are extremely nit-picky about that kinda stuff, especially.

They say they have a zero-tolerence policy but the teachers and counselors always look the other way and never tell the princples anything in my school.

Sorry to hear that.  2 of the schools I was glad to have left anyways, and I heard they recently shut down xD

The other 2 are subject to class action lawsuits pending against them.

Anyways, more and more kids I know are doing internet schooling or independent studies now. (good for them)
