Fluxy
Chapter 19, Curtains Coming to a Close The scared and fearful teen's eyes were clenched. His muzzle closed and biting hard to prepare for the impact. He heard the shot, and ever since the sound was heard, all that raced through his mind was remorse for all the actions he never took, all the farewells he never got to say, and the felling he let his friends down. Time seemed to pass by slowly for him as he tried to quickly remember all the memories he held close as to make sure his transition to the afterlife a peaceful one. Surprisingly, the first memory he came over was the thought of how he and Liam became friends. As soon as Gearhart simply thought of it, the smell of peppermint came across his muzzle again; The realization of the fact made him feel idiotic for not seeing it sooner. "L-Liam!" The wolf shouted as he opened his eyes too see his shot friend in front of him. Blood from the vulpine was dripping down Gearhart's face and chest as the shot went directly through Liam, and thankfully avoiding Gearhart. Liam's legs were shaking, the exhaustion from simply everything was great, and he himself didn't even know how he got to that point so quickly. Regret was not in him any longer as a small smile came upon his muzzle as he turned to Gearhart, who now had tears in his eyes. "Heh, You know... I kinda.. Need a doctor..." He said, the vulpine's eyes then crossing as he fell to the floor, bleeding with the open wound in his upper chest. Wolf saw this, and was shocked by this small scene of betrayal, but in all, just a small amount. That wasn't the younger wolf's focus though. He was in a moment of both joy and sorrow, all of which could no longer be hidden with the fear of death. His best friend, the only one who always had his back, had just been shot, and was now lying down, letting the rate of his own blood loss be the eminent cause of death. He started struggling to get out of the binding, wanting, needing to get out and get help for all the bodies he knew as friends that lay on the floor around him. Wolf took this opportunity, however, to take plans into his own scheme, and point the gun yet again at Gearhart, as the door to the room thrust open, only to show a panting older blue female fox, looking to Wolf. "Killing him, was not in the deal, and you know it." The vindictive older woman spoke. At not necessarily the words, but at the tone of voice, Gearhart's ears picked up as he was starting to become confused; Could it really be? He had to find out, so with sound of pain, he barked out, “What do you want me for, Lure?!â€. At that, the fox looked to him, and grinned. This elder was gray furred now, and coughing from time to time. Gearhart couldn’t understand it, as his senses were barely coming back to him with time, as the headache started sifting in and out with pain variables. Her head turning back to Wolf, the iris’ of her eyes started to glow bright purple. The areas of Lure’s fur that might have stayed colorful were soon becoming fully dull as she walked closer to him. “Put down the gun, he will die in due time, but not by your hands.†She said, her eyes stopped glowing as he looked deep into the older Wolf. With a sigh, and slight growl, Wolf returned his fire arm to his side, the clipping noise chimed through the hallowed room a bit, leaving evident proof that his gun was holstered. “Just lead me to Leon and Panther….†He spoke with annoyance, taking one more glance at Gearhart. “One moment… Just one last thing.†He said, a tear in his eye as he went to the body of Mel, who was still bloody. He went through the jacket, and pulled out the ring and photo she had placed with her before the mission’s start. He looked to it, and headed back to the younger wolf. Gearhart was silent, just looking to his father in awe, and wonder at what he held. He wanted to speak, but the tears in his eyes, and whimper that wanted to let loose would have overridden what he wanted to say. Wolf knelt down to Gearhart, and looked him in the eyes as he then showed Gearhart the photo. “This was your mother and I on our wedding day…†He said, and set it on his lap. Wolf then proceeded to show him a ring, a simple gold band, not even of high craftsmanship. “And this was my ring… I want you to have these, since it seems like you will survive this encounter with death.†He said, then placed his hand on Gearhart’s shoulder. Wolf then took off his eye patch, showing the scar of his eye wound from the time he met Mel. “You let anyone other than me kill ya, anyone, and I mean it… I will find a way to bring you back, and kill you myself…†Wolf said which would be his final words for a long time to come. Gearhart’s skipped a beat as he looked to the ground, fearful, but also feeling warm inside. He couldn’t even come to the explanation of why this made him feel even remotely positive at all, but it made him a little happier. The older wolf got up from his knees, and calmly placed his eye patch back upon his left eye, sighing as he looked to the older vixen. “Well? Come on, ya hag. Get moving.†He said, looking annoyed at her. Lure grinned and chuckled as she turned, her tail flickering from side to side, leading Wolf out of the room as she took a moment to look back at Gearhart. A smile coming to her muzzle as her eyes glowed purple, she sent one last mental note to him. ’I’m sorry, but it’s easier if you go to sleep now… I’ll see you in ten years precisely, cutie. And instantaneously, Gearhart was knocked out cold, alone in the room where his best friend, crush, and mother, were. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- ’A machine, cylinder in shape. Ten feet in height, five feet in diameter. It’s gonna be hard to enter the base with all the goons around. And as you know, from this point on, it’s all on you from the inside. Our contact methods will be killed due to their electromagnetic field. If you’re seen once, there is a likely chance you will be eradicated. Do you understand?’ The adult male tiger, light orange with scars across his arms, spoke to the female fox. She was brown in appearance, and looked down as she sighed. She pulled out a photo and looked at it. It was one of what seemed to be of Nel, holding a smaller fox in her arms with a smile on her face. The vixen then looked up to her commander and nodded. ’I know what I must do…’ -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- The day was long and hot for this more elderly lizard, the Madame closing up her shop as she sighed, wiping off the sweat. “Yes yes. Zostro sees this, she sees that, but not even a day of great light and heat?! Madame Zostro is getting too old to be of any self use to herself…†The Madame was tired, the sun was heating up her tent all day, and it wasn’t good for business either, as shown by the lack of tips. The fair grounds of the Cornerian Annual Fair were slowly coming to a draw with the passing days, but she kept feeling a need to stay. The lizard went the back room of her rather large and industrial tent to lay down as a small quake hit yet again. “Agh! Why Zostro not see this either!?†She exclaimed, rushing to the middle of her tent again only to feel the quaking stop. “Well, that is….†She was stopped, her eyes wide open as she looked to the ground. It was a card lying on the ground right side up…. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- ’I… I don’t know what I did to deserve this…’ the young wolf wondered in his mind. The area was black as night all around, as he had an odd sense of feeling throughout his body. ’I mean…. I’m dead… Why do I feel an annoyance on the side of my head?...’ He thought curiously, consciousness coming soon to him. As he came too, Gearhart’s eyes slowly stammered open as he looked up with a slight groan, as everything was blurry. Could this have really been the afterlife? Gearhart thought so at first, when as soon as he started to turn his muzzle, he felt the same annoyance on the right of his face; the feeling of a pencil’s sharp graphite tip touching his fur and skin. Looking to the right more suddenly, he growled a tiny bit. “Fayt?! Why are you poking me?! I swear too… Whoa…†The young wolf’s senses were all thrown off due to the mixture of his senses and the major dosages of medicine in him. The friendly and happy toned vulpine chuckled, leading up to a laugh as he went running to the door, and shouted words Gearhart couldn’t make out at the moment. His sense of sight was clear about now, although, it was not as good as when he was in the ship. Gearhart could only expect for some odd or planned reason that his sense got weaker, but he accepted the change with a sigh. Something, however, he was able to see was quite curious. Last he saw Fayt, the fox was at most very early twenties. So why did this Fayt look in his mid thirties? It made no sense to him. He took a look to his body, and with a sigh of relief, the wolf was happy to see he had stayed the same. Change was nice, but he liked the way he looked, even if not many others did. The wolf’s muzzle gained an instinctual smile as his ears fell back as he heard something familiar, but with his senses in poor shape, impossible to be sure and confirm. All he knew was that within moments, he had just gotten a very lovely fox to hug him. “Gearhart!†The red vixen exclaimed. “I am so glad you are okay!†She said happily. The wolf’s tail happily started at a little wag as Gearhart instantly knew now who this important girl was. “Heh, Nel, thanks, I mean- “ He was cut off by a very forceful slap to the jaw, a slight cracking sound coming from, more than likely, Nel’s hand. “Don’t you ever hit me in the head, or anywhere else again, got it?!†The wolf’s tail instantly stopped it’s wagging. “Y-Yeah, Nel. I-I’m sorry.†The sheepish and honestly a little scared Gearhart claimed, closing his eyes as to brace for another impact. It stayed like that for a minute, and all that was felt was a simple light kiss on his forehead. This time, the wolf’s tail staying still; It had learned when it wagged, bad things happened soon after, and now knew better. The scene played out and on. In the hospital beds in that room were also a yellow lynx, a blue, possible light purple, vixen with a red fox sitting at a chair by her side. The red fox was covered in bandages, and holding the vixens hand with a smile as he was smiling. There was a blue bird sitting by the door n a typical cool, or tough guy pose. The leather jacket and eyes closed deal as he stood guard at the door; even in public places, his pack mentality stayed strong, as it what kept him alive. The happier paced blue fox was moving around, setting up pranks and little traps in the bedding room; more than likely for the lynx overall with how they were being arranged. There was another blue fox, seeming a bit older than the wolf in the room as he was hooked to many medical outlets, and machines as to stabilize his living; whether he would make it was not sure, as he was in a coma for the time being. The sleeping brown wolf smiled as a dark red vixen sat next to his bed and hummed to herself as she sharpened her daggers. No sign of any other mercenaries were there, including the absence of Slippy and Fara. But for that afternoon down on Corneria, right there in the medical bay, there was peace. ’Heh…. First life or death mission… Accomplished…. -The End-
Fluxy
I would like to thank Nintendo for the creation of Star Fox. I own in no way shape or form any of the characters Canon to the Star Fox story line. Users I wish to thank~ Julius Quasar, Your endless fanfics gave me great inspiration to write SF Fan Fics and jump out of my poetry cycle. DRL, Rainfyr, EazyIn, for reading and commenting to help give me inspiration in the beginning. Crazyfooinc, ....Must I explain why? Lol. Always telling me what he enjoyed about it rather than giving the usual "Great stuff!" post. Evil Waffles, For overall great commenting. Even if you didn't post, you took a moment or two out of your time to IM/PM me your thoughts. As well as being one of the fan fic writers I enjoy, and get inspiration from. BlackJack22, I'mma get you back here, you better know this. I know where you live, since it happens to be about a mile or so away from me. xD Conor, Same goes for you, just longer distance, but still possible. XD FoxMcCloud, For really helping me get these last few chapters out of me, when I was down and really not wanting to write. =] Shadow Matrix & Slug, For reading and being public support. And to all my viewers that didn't post. To be honest, if I had really little views, I would have more than likely scrapped the idea, since the "Fan Fic" field of writing is a bit new to me compared to my short story and poetry writing. It will be about a few weeks to a month, but there is a sequel, I promise that. May questions will be answered, as I purposely did that, as it will make much more sense with the next book. As for now, I thank you all very much. I owe you my sincerest gratitude. *Bows* =]
CrypticQuery
HAPPY ENDINGS RULE! I'm to the point where I feel for each and every one of the characters, even Madame Zostro. You've made the world of Star Fox actually seem real, given the characters & story the time and effort that they need, aaaaand on top of it all wrote part of it from scratch because of technical difficulties. You deserve a medal! (see below)
