Why do we know so little about Krystal?

I am confused. You say you agree that the laziness is wrong, but you also say it is a good thing. You're just trying to manipulate what is factual into something positive, which the topic isn't even about. The topic is asking why we don't know diddly about Krystal, and the answer is simple: she is a lazily written leftover from a Nintendo 64 game. While all the characters do have a shallow backstory, Krystal's is the only one who has one that is flat-out ignored in the story itself.

What I mean is, I don't like how they are neglecting the stories for the characters, but in a community for a game with very little attention at this point in time, these lacks of creativity give us something to discuss, such topics like "Where did Krystal's staff come from?" and "Would Peppy be the step father of Fox?" topics, they give us something to talk about and discuss seeing as we had no new games to talk about. I'll admit, I did stray away from the question of the topic. As for me making something positive out of laziness, I try to see a positive in most situations and this is an example, that is just who I am. The topic needs a simple answer for a simple question, that of which you supplied.

And FURTHER MORE, developed backstories do NOT hamper creative community efforts. Nay, the BEST of community contributions are the ones that manage to interpert a well-written character and expand on them while staying in the boundaries of the character itself. Instead of being given some dumb empty slate and allowed to do WHATEVER YOU WANT, you are given a set of rules and limitations that forces you, as a writer, to think creatively and adapt.

Wait... did I say strongly developed stories hamper creative outputs?  Nope. When I posted it gives fans creativity, I was referring to topics like of which I mentioned in the previous paragraph.

So no, there is no justification for Krystal's lack of an acknowledged background, because 1: its lazy as hell of the developers to do that and 2: good community speculation is not directly tied to the "lack" of a character's characterization. It is at best making an excuse, and a bad one at thay.

Right, because a story of animals flying around in space fighting fish, bugs and a giant head is something to be taken as seriously as you do.

As I mentioned earlier, I try to find a positive in most situations, that's who I am, regardless of whether you think it is justified or not.

That still does not justify the writing, which is my point.

"Durr he bitches about writing so he must be thinking its srs bsns."

Just because Starfox is a idiotic good romp through space where talking animals shoot lasers at each other is not an excuse for bad writing. Plenty of "dumb" things have been turned into good writing, look at shows like Beast Wars. And Starfox doesn't even need to be even close to that good, it just needs some damn consistancy and acknowledgement of characterization.

Perhaps not, but I still look at the positives of it regardless.

Lol, just a little bit of an insult there. :P That is just how it seemed to me through emotionless text.

I never said it was an excuse for bad writing, I said that it seemed to me you were taking the whole thing way too seriously.

How little or not I take things serious is irrelevant to the discussion at hand. It was entirely pointless to even bring up, and comes off as an ad hominem attack, which I replied to as such. If you didn't mean anything serious, then 1: don't say it at all or 2: make it clear its a joke. Trollface exists for a reason.

I can see this is going nowhere, so last post.

You say what I said was looked like an attack? Your first in regards to my personal opinion on the lack of character backstory felt like an attack to me, but instead of going "omg attack!" I ignored it and let it pass. Oh, and if you didn't mean for it to be interpreted as an attack then 1. Don't say it at all, or 2. make it clear it's not an attack.

Personal attacks and debate attacks are different.

If I see something I disagree with, I will shoot it down. That is not the same thing as going "hawhaw he takes vidyassests seriously", which is entirely irrelevant to the point of discussion.

The words you use  make it look like a personal attack Robert this is why I talked to you about "those words"

Alright you two, lets lay off the "attacks". And yes I know attacks in this debate are subjective depending on how you ask.

wait we all are falling for it... they do it so we will create a fourm for it :morning:

I have no idea what you are talking about.  Are you referring to this topic getting moved to a different section where more heated debate/potential flame wars can occur?  We have no such section.  Btw I love that emote, Fox looks badass with that beer. :P

I stand corrected.  Although beer would be better IMO.  You don't have someone as bad ass as Fox wearing shades drinking coffee....

Off Topic: Well  Krystal being his so called "girlfriend" may be pushing him not to.

anyway on topic: all the points thus far seem valid thanks for you input.

I think he's saying that Nintendo's master plan was to leave Krystal a blank slate for the purpose of making us make a forum about her...? >.>

The lack of a quoted post to direct it at suggests it's to the original topic itself, or Robert and waffle's argument. I can't make a connection to it and the argument, so...

Simple aint it? One plot hole we shall never hear from again of. Thats it and thats how it shall remain. Unless... Nintendo releases Dinasour Planet (which is astronomically impossible)

(i have not read anything said but the title of the chat)

my theory is:

she has been so popularized to people that they (the popular demand) don't need any single bit of information to get what they want out of her.

but: i am not the popular demand so i don't know 4 real.

i don't know krystal myself.

i havent read the replies.

(time to read them)

Right... and TV Tropes is canon source of Star Fox data?

Personally I prefer her to have no back story, leave it as it is. It gives the community something to be creative with in their fan fics and discussions.

the reason i get most games is to 'create the story myself'.

if i create it then i get what i want. instead of some garbage popular BS that everyone loves but me because its usually a bad influence

give me a goal i have to do,  i probably won't achieve it unless i realy want to do it.. which i wanna do what i wanna do.. create

i feel thats part of the definition of HUMAN which robert please stop creating these debates if you really don't want to lose to a 14 year old (if you lose to me in a heated debate you may just start with me right now)

disclaimer: i don't claim your will to debate.

i'm WAY off topic

thanks for existing

You making shit up =/= the actual story. Thats a little something called PERSONAL CANON, and it is the fandom equivilent of covering ears with your hands and going LALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU. Doing that is basically slapping the writers across the face (although admittedly some writers deserve that), and is incredibly immature because instead of accepting what is for what is, you just pretend it will go away if you make something else up.

If you want to create so bad, get off your ass and WRITE SOMETHING YOURSELF. Make up your own damn characters, your own damn story, and your own damn setting. Your creative boundaries are not limited to the scope of a mediocre Nintendo franchise.

And don't even get me started on debate, and making boistrous claims of "DOHOHO YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE TO A 14 YEAR OLD DO YOU" is not only arrogant, but BAD debate form.

And FYI this is what I think it means to be human.

Kind of back on topic...

I think it would be cool If Nintendo made a non-cannon game based off Kursed. She is an interesting character, and it would be cool to see a video game with her.

And him going "DURR HURR YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE TO A 14 YEAR OLD" wasn't? Get off my back, you are in no position to tell me what is or isn't "too much". I am not attacking anyone personally, I am not flaming, or trolling. He had something to say to me, and I had points to make against what he said. That is all. It was not even close to "too much".

That would provide nothing about her backstory, which is her biggest weakness, and would only serve to continue driving the Character Derailment Choo-choo even further off the tracks.

Okay, Robert, please calm down. And what if they made one OF her backstory?! :o It is highly unlikely for them to do it, but is possible and would be cool.

We know so little about Krystal for the same reason we know so little about most every other character, Nintendo doesn't give a shit when it comes to developing characters with amazing potential.

robert monroe: i have actually created more than 5 stories (which i say they suck now) in the past year and i do need ideas so i actually listen to the writers. Its as if i was being told to grow up... i overestimate myself, underestimate myself so i don't need to win a debate to get what i wanted... a friend

i believe i shal not argue until i have experience.

if i accept myself then maybe i might be mature enough for you

if i can just see what i'm supposed to do. :(
