Orbital Fox
Ignore the title, I was just keeding... ohai... This place is still here?! o:My PS3 stopped reading discs after playing MW2 last week. Can you please let me know what exactly is wrong with it? I bought a blu ray lens cleaner, replaced the old hard drive, restored them both too! Nothing seems to fix it! Details... the first day it stopped working it was just an on and off thing. It would work for like a round or two of MW2 then just freeze up at the end or beginning of another round. (right before or sometimes at the loading screen) And it would have telltale signs that it was going to freeze up too, some noises would stop working like when the person who announced the killstreak rewards wouldn't say anything. Also, the last time it worked was when I was giving the Stimulus map pack a sightread with my friend and we were playing offline and it just like freaked the hell out and locked up while we were playing. I guess it led up to that or something? It can read the disc is there sometimes and it will show you which game is in but when I select it it will sometimes give me an error or it will just lock up before I even get to the main menu of the game.I actually highly doubt that anyone here has a PS3 because this is a Nintendo place lol. I remember people here thinking outside the box on some things and I wanted their opinion. I really DON'T want to send in my PS3 because it's not under warranty since I've had it since it came out and it will take nearly two months just to get it back. EDIT: I just realized this might be in the wrong area. D:
evilwaffles
Lol at the title.Do you get an error code or something? A yellow light where the power button is?
Orbital Fox
No YLOD lol. Lucky me! But I very seldom get an error code when trying to start the disc if it even recognizes that it's there. The error I will sometimes get is 80010516.
evilwaffles
Many Troubleshooting sites suggest you call Customer Support, apparently the lens reader or something may be damaged.
Orbital Fox
There's like no way in hell that it's damaged... I'm very kind to it lol. I got a blu ray lens cleaner for it too, used it a few times on it and it didn't fix it. I'm nearly on my last option and I reaaaaally don't want to send it in. Orbital Fox
Multiple times haha. Probably too many times actually. I'm thinking my last thing I might do is take it apart and fix it myself somehow.
evilwaffles
Lol, if it is still attached you didn't use it enough. Well I have no idea what to do, sorry, all I can think of is calling tech support.

Fana McCloud
Not that I know much about PS3s specifically, but you might also try making sure that your PS3 is in a cool room - put a box fan right next to it and aim it at it if you have to. XD It probably ISN'T overheating from the way it sounds, but it's something easy to try. Blowing out computers/game systems with canned air is always a good policy too - keeps the airflow as unobstructed as possible.
Guest Scorpion03
My PS3 did this to me too, but i did what i did with my 360 which probably wont help u too much, i threw it in the bin and bought a new one.Saves being console-less for 2-3 months just for them to tell u it will cost a fortune to fix it anyway. Orbital Fox
Don't think so. It's never hotter the it should be, I check. And I also used some canned air on it... I love how I just said 'some' when I think I used the entire bottle. >_>My PS3 did this to me too, but i did what i did with my 360 which probably wont help u too much, i threw it in the bin and bought a new one.Saves being console-less for 2-3 months just for them to tell u it will cost a fortune to fix it anyway. It actually isn't 'my' PS3, but I play it so much it basically is mine lol. It's my cousins and he is going to send it in if we can't fix it ourselves and it looks like we're gonna have to send it in. He's the kind guy that would rather wait awhile then spend an extra 150 bucks for a Slim. I'm going to get a PS3 of my own hopefully and if this shit happens to it I think I'll cry haha.BTW, can you give me details about how and when it happened? What games did you play at the time that it happened?
Guest Scorpion03
I was playing uncharted 2, it was quite late and the room was cool so i doubt it was overheating, although it is next to my dvd player, xbox and wii, so u never know, but it seemed ok, i reckon one of the lenses cracked, and i look after my consoles too, so its just one of those weird things. Anyway if i were you id invest in a slim, it doesnt play ps2 games, but it takes up a heck of a lot less space... that said maybe u shud just buy a 360, the silent running one is coming out (if it isnt already in the US) and theyre certainly a lot nicer to use than the ps3. Orbital Fox
I really do want a 360 since ALL my friends have one and I don't, I'm the odd one out playing PS3 haha. As for BWC I already have a PS2 anyway and I have every single Guitar Hero game to date for it and those don't play on PS3s anyway so it doesn't matter. I've never used BWC on my PS3 that I currently am using. Also 360 costs money to be online and PS3 doesn't... It would be hard enough coming up with money just to get the system and games I want, but paying monthly online? Sorry, but if I can get the same thing for free then I'm going with that haha. Guest Scorpion03
Again i dont know what sort of costing system they have in the US, but in the UK its only £5 per month, which is small change. But i suppose if ure not working or short of funds, then ure prob right the ps3 is the better option for its online, personally though id ratehr pay that little bit for my xbox 360... but i guess im kinda biassed as the ps3 was the first playstation console i bought, and the 360 plays original xbox games (the console i had previously) so its more suitable for me, plus it has the updated perfect dark on it, and i do love that game. Orbital Fox
I think it's around 10 bucks a month here... And I would have to ask my dad to pay it for me and it's annoying doing that cause he gives me a lot of shit when I ask for stuff lol. I actually never did pay much attention to playstation until late PS2. I was too busy on N64 and XBox because I was obsessed with Halo and Kotor at the time. But I barely dropped my XBox (slipped and caught it but still slightly bumped on the ground) which barely left a mark on the edge but ever since then it gave me problems. And I didn't touch it until last month and I fired it up and it won't read any discs either haha! So the only fully functional system I have right now is a PS2 pretty much. I also have a very used and very worn out DS Lite... I never took good care of that haha. I don't get it though, why didn't other systems like Dreamcast have these problems? Speaking of which I have one and it works fine. Isn't it like 10 years old? Jesus.
Guest Scorpion03
Yeah, that was a big problem with the original xbox, when i was in uni i moved my xbox around a lot, and in the end it couldnt handle most games and deefinately wouldnt play dvd's, by the time i finished uni the 360 was out, so it just about saved me having to replace my original xbox, but im now 2 360's down the line and I am really interested in this new one because its silent running and my current 360 elite makes an horrific racket, so if its even slightly quieter it will be sooo nice. I own a dsiXL, but i only bought it to play starfox command, and ive never bought anything else for it, maybe i should actually try some other games on it, otherwise that was a bit of a waste of money. As for the older consoles, back in the days of the N64 they used cartridge technology which is a LOT harder to damage as its only chipsets, theres no risk of unalligning or damaging the laser as there isnt one. As for newer conolse such as rthe dreamcast, the early ones did suffer this problem and a lot of people suffered with the diskdrive not spinning up to speed. although they fixed that with then later models. Orbital Fox
Yeah, same I was moving around inbetween places and I took it for something to do. The Elite is loud? That's a shame lol. At least it's not giving you the RROD, the loudness is the fans cooling it down probably right? I know pretty much every good game for the DS since I've played the damn thing so much. Getting a DSi for SFC is like getting a N64 for Superman 64... Well I knew why cartridge games didn't give problems, but I thought that early on disc games would have ALOT of trouble but I've never heard of any trouble with them at all which surprised me. Until you said the Dreamcast had diskdrive spinning problems.Also... Really random question that I'm too lazy to find out but does the PS2 have a mic you can talk into when you're playing online? I'm planning on buying a few PS2 games that have online capabilities.
Guest Scorpion03
it actually seems to be the diskdrive with the elite, if u put the game on the hdd, it is a lot quieter, but this will all be solved with the new one im hoping, so im looking forward to getting that next month. As for the dreamcast, ive owned 2, one was a release one which died after about a yr with the diskdrive problems, my second one ive still got and works great, but im of the impression these days most companies are only interested in how much tech u can squash into the machine rather than how well built or robust the machine is. Unfortunately these problems seem to plauge every major developer, sony has it with their psp and ps3, microsoft with their xbox 360, and even nintendo with their ds, which is annoyingly fragile for a portable console. As fior anything to do with the ps2, im afraid i dont know, as ive not had anything to do with that console. I'm sure there are some cheaper offbrand ones you can use.

Guest Scorpion03
As far as i know there are no problems with the Wii, ive not heard of anything major anyway, the only annoying thing is if uve got connect24 switched on, cos you can guarantee nintendo will send you emails while ure trying to sleep and then it flashes blue.Although theres no starfox yet there are some really interesting games for it, you should check out muramassa the demon blade or fragile dreams, theyre both brilliant games, then theres the more common ones like red steel 2 which is quite nice too. Also you could always download lylat wars, its quite a bit easier to control using the Wii classic controller compared to the old N64 controller.
