I like Krystal, but not in the obsessive-OH-MAH-GAWD-HAWTNESS!!! kind of way.  The only reason why I dislike her like I do is that there's not much depth to Krystal and all we know is that she is the sole survivor of her home planet (I guess I wrote that right?) that suddenly becomes a damsel in distress inside a crystal.  Furthermore, she just becomes somewhat of a useless part of the new Star Fox team in Assault since her telepathy doesn't do any good what so ever and she somehow learns to fly in a year...  A year?!  Come on...

I'm not going to discuss anything about Command since there is an ARMY of you on SF-O that will start a war of how bad Command was, so I will withdraw my input on the matter of Command.

Krystals a ditz. I like the idea that Fox has a girlfriend, but it would be nice if she actually HELPED OUT. Remember Saria in assault? She thought it was just a big date.

Note: I don't dislike Krystal as a whole. However, this topic asks for reasons not to like her, so I'm going to supply the "negative" part of my "ambivalent" attitude toward her.

First off: She's a schizophrenic. If Nintendo would just admit this, it'd actually turn into a really cool character trait, but at the moment no one in the official franchise has said it. She does a few nice things, then shortly afterward turns around and flips out on someone for being nice to her (See: Adventures ending). She is described as "kindhearted," and shows that it's true by putting off her search for answer to help out a planet, but later she becomes petty and obsessed with getting in Fox's pants.

Now, another reason I dislike her current incarnation is because she's utterly useless. She can't fight Scales, gets trapped in a crystal for an entire game, and mooches off of StarFox for a year. In Assault's multiplayer, she's a crappy version of Fox with two barriers (only -after- you've died once, mind you), on top of just general NPC uselessness in that game. Even in Command, where the ships are supposed to be more or less balanced, hers is lackluster.

So yeah. She can be so much more than she is. Harmony Descent hit the nail on the head.

I honestly don't care about her. She has done nothing in the series that makes her consistent other than being a romantic interest for Fox. I would say the samething about Panther being that for Krystal, but Panther has a consistent personality - at least in demeanor.

Her introduction in the series was purely because the company was too lazy and merged Dinosaur Planet into a Star Fox game--it completely changed the style of gameplay and introduced some fantards into the SF fanbase. She's a bit of a Mary-Sue in fanboy terms-- no fleshed-out background, a mostly sexual appeal, a bland personality. Notice that she has close to zero die-hard female fans. The game would be fine without her-- she's basically just a love interest, and honestly, having her in there makes the storyline a bit soap opera-ish.
