A Nintendo Wild West Game?

Nintendo has done space with Starfox and Metroid. They've done Medieval times with Legend with Zelda and Fire Emblem. They've done Jungle adventure and hijinks with Donkey Kong. Suburban and City Life with Animal Crossing and Earthbound. And finally Greek Mythos with Kid Icarus.

But Nintendo has never been to a place I'm thinking of.....

That's right. The Wild West. *spits into a spittoon*

Who here thinks that Nintendo making a Wild West Game wouldn't be a bad idea?

Personally I was thinking something of a Third Person Shooter/Action, Adventure kind of game.  Something like Legend of Zelda, but with Guns and not as many puzzles. Any thoughts?

Wild west games are crap usually. As a time period, its a gant none event, its all brown and crap guns. You either have to abstract the hell out of it sunset riders style, or have it alongside vampires or steampunk or something.

Well, steampunk Wild West wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea. There are definitely a lot of modern era tweaks in Legend of Zelda, and it's pulled off just fine.

I really would like to see a Nintendo owned franchise with a wild west theme. I think it would be pretty fun!

Exactly. Without steampunk though, it would be boring. In order to be interesting it has to be wild west plus something else.

Exactly. That's what I was thinking. Ever seen the movie "Wild Wild West" with Will Smith and Kevin Kline? I was thinking something around those terms, except Zeldaish.

Love that movie! :D In terms of the giant steam powered spider, that actually seems like something that would be in a Nintendo game.

Isn't Red Steel 2 kinda like this?

As far as I know....I believe Red Steel 2 is FPS shooter. And the themes are kinda mixed with a Japanese Samurai/ Western Cowboy kinda feel.

So we are talking about something more like Red dead redemption?

That would be a better example yes, but kind of in a more fantasy setting. Steampunk really sums it up best though. But it terms of gameplay and exploration I believe you're on the right track.

Also on a side note, it came to my attention that Nintendo already made two western games. The first one is what Julius referenced, (XD) Back to the Future's Wild Gunman, which I had NO idea Nintendo owned. O_o The second is an Arcade game called "Sheriff" that was back in the late 70's era.

Ahem,

Wild guns anyone:) that was a wild west style game.

But I think is a good idea to make another.

Nintendo isn't really a stickler for specific eras. Just takes hints from them and makes them into AMAZING FANTASY.

And before you yell at me Zelda is medieval, remember that there are jukeboxes. And electric guitars made of fishbones.

And the steam engine (we've seen ships and locomotives powered by steam). Something that came about in the 1700s.

Interesting......I never heard of that game before.

Not quite sure if that  game is owned by Nintendo though. It was released for the SNES only but it was made by a company named Natsume.
