CrypticQuery
I tried adding an animated GIF as my avatar, but it stayed as a still image. Is there any special criteria for the GIF?

Guest Mr. Mario
The best answer would probably be copying that URL the image you want is from. Usually uploading from your computer file doesn't work.right-click the image you want to use for your avatar, select properties and you will see image size, type of image and URL.Highlght the URL and copy itThen come here, click forum profile and select upload by URLClick on the box and paste your copied image URLSelect save changes and you now have an animated GIF as your avatarIf this doesn't work, you may have to save that GIF image and upload to tinypic.com and get that image URL there. Otherwise go to tinyurl.com and paste your image URL there, then you can copy the tiny url and paste it anywhere you want, that's what I did to one of my images in my signature. CrypticQuery
Anyone have a good image compressor that'll do GIFs too? The file is too big .
Guest Mr. Mario
Use Luna pic to compress your image, this will do animated GIFs as well.It may be complicated to use but it'll be easy once you get the hang of it.Above the eraser icon and below the paintbrush icon is the icon to resize your image, small or big.Once you pick your desired size, go to FILE and click save image, it will take you to the menu in which you must choose whihc file type you want top save it as, click on Save as GIF (default) and keep the file on your computer. Now go to FILE and click on Post on Facebook, Xanga and more! You will get to choose which link you can upload the GIF to, but none of them work, especially Photobucket.Click on TinyPic Plugin, the menu will open and you must browse for the image you saved eariler on your computer, once you find it, click on it and click UPLOAD NOWWait a few seconds and you should see your new GIF ready to use, and remember what I said earilerright-click the image you want to use for your avatar, select properties and you will see image size, type of image and URL.Highlght the URL and copy itThen come here, click forum profile and select upload by URLClick on the box and paste your copied image URLSelect save changes and you now have an animated GIF as your avatarIf this doesn't work, you may have to save that GIF image and upload to tinypic.com and get that image URL there. CrypticQuery
Well, tried optimizing it with Luna, but the smallest it gets there is 1.23MB, still to large to upload to SF-O apparently . Anyone have a animated GIF optimizer that will go into smaller file sizes?

DZComposer
Technically you're not supposed to be linking to avatars. The only reason I enabled that is that there was a bug in SMF 2 RC2 that entirely broke custom avatars if it was disabled. As soon as I can confirm the bug has been fixed, I will disable it again.
