As a scientist im afraid its pretty unlikely, to have that level of mutation something very unusual must have happened, but that said if u go on that theory we couldnt possibly exist either, so i wouldnt say its impossible, just unlikely. Its more likely they would be variations on the original animal should that happen, not a cross between what is an animal and human.

Well it is unlikely that they would come from the centre of the galaxy, as someone stated earlier, unfortunately the centre of the galaxy has a little problem with blackholes, so crossing into it or out of it would be extremely difficult. As such i have to agree with you here, its more likely that it is in a manner based on a possioble future species of earth. If they were aliens in the truest sense they would not look remotely like animals on earth, as the chances of that happen are about 1 billion to 1.

As for the new conversation starting about the "evolution.... or will they find us?", my opinion:

Im not so sure that the earth will be able to sustain existance long enough for such a drastic mutation (if we want to call it that) to occur in the different species of animals. If they found us, for one, you can count on automatic hostility against them (random armed forces arrive trying to contain any "danger"). This will result in either a large scale war (that earth will lose...thats it im moving to the moon  ) or by some off chance, we manage to speak to there species properly, and suddenly, Earth has contact (and peaceful relations) with an alien species. Best part is, they found us first! (Great job on the scientific exploration stuff that you have been working on for years guys...)

And now, I'll add another way to look at this. Say technology that existed in "G.I. Joe" was to ever be created. What would come of that?

It wouldnt have to sustain us, so whether or not the planet can sustain the life isn't really the issue, for another dominant species to evolve we must first be wiped out, and that same event is likely to cause the radiation required for the significant change that would be necesary. An asteroid impact would be a nice one... seeing as that seems to be the most popular cause of our death according to film producers atm.

Actually thats not erally necesary, and in the event of something such as an asteroid impact the infrastructure would be sooo badly damaged it is unlikely that anything much would be salvageable, a new race would likely start in pretty much the same way we did... and build up their technological advances until they get wiped out and so on and so forth for all eternity, till the earth eventually dies... weve got a while luckily.

No, drastic temperature changes would not affect us, neither would a change in the amount of gases in the air, as both those things would not happen overnight, if you want me to be more serious, the odds are that it will be a virus that eventually kills us, currently wwe have run across viruses that are too slow, are not interchangeable or have too short an incubation time... If we run across something with more kick we will perish.

Your very optimistic, im still at work, and its 2 am so im not feeling overly optimistic atm.

Which means to be honest, i think if something is gunna kill me and the entire population now would be nice, at least i wouldnt have to finish work and get killed on the way home or something annoying when im looking forward to my weekend.

Haha, nice idea, and if u find someway to a chieve it make sure to tell me, cos i certainly dont see any way to be heroic these days... Soon enough you will feel the same... or maybe thats just cos ive been up for nearly 48 hours and i am stuck in work till 7am, so ive still got quite a few hours that ive got to drink copious amounts of caffeine to survive.

Ah well, that isnt the point of the thread... There is a pretty good chance that we will get wiped out by an asteroid, we already know they can carry metals and such from other planets (things that dont belong on ours) its reasonable to assume at some point they will bring something of biological or chemical origin that will do serious damage to us or the ecosystem. If you are certain that starfox are originally from this planet we would have to die for them to succeed, otherwise it wont work, there is no way that this planet could sustain two dominant species, it struggles with humans.

I might be a food scientist, but my background is medical so i know quite a lot about diseases, i also happen to know we can only actively monitor about 5% of the sky, so ure estimation on whether or not we get hit by an asteroid is only taking into account that 5%, the rest of the sky is pretty big, and were not exactly a little target, there are massive asteroids that only just miss us on a regular basis, and thats the ones we notice.
