sjrathbun812
I know the 3DS isn't out yet, but it's going to be on there to. Saw it on Game Informer.
Fire Yoshi
On the Sonic the Hedgehog discussion...Sonic Rivals 2I'm trying to find a larger version of the Rouge render you see on the front cover of the game's case. Can't find it. I found bigger versions of the other characters though...

Beau Skunk
Okay, I know just about nobody here gives a damn about Sonic the hedgehog. Not true, I love the Sonic series. (I also like some of the comic series & old cartoons.) I even like some of the crtically-hated games. Kinda nice to see there are some other Sonic fans here to.I am curious what kinda game the 3DS game will be. I'm guessing either a sidescroller, or a game like "Unleashed" & "Colors" that shifts from sidescrolling to 3D at times.

Beau Skunk
Me neither, though, most people seem disheartened with the 3D games recently. I think I'd like one more like the "Sonic Adventure" games. But then again, people/critics will complain about having more then one playable character. Dunno why people hate the other Sonic characters so much. ...(Well, aside from Big the cat. He's a funny character, but his fishing levels were tedious, I admit.)Maybe having multiple characters would be more suitable for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. It's been a long time sense we got to play as Tails, or Knuckles in the 2D games.

Sonic has slipped some, but this could be what's needed for the series.

Guest Bond-A-Thon87
Sonic Adventures 1 & 2 were both great games and my favorites in the series. Sure, the camera was annoying sometimes and not all the characters levels were good, but the gameplay was solid for the most part and the graphics were amazing at the time. I also liked the plotlines and how everyone had their own motives. Sonic Heroes was pretty great too but was basically a stripped down version of Adventures (less variety in the gameplay, no chao garden, etc). After Sonic Heroes everything else (console releases, anyway: I don't really play the ones on the Gameboy and DS) has been good or just OK. Sonic Team screwed up by adding gimmicks like 'werehogs' and medieval knights into the series when. Now because the games that featured those gimmicks flopped, they're only making games like Sonic Colors. And while they're pretty good, and are being well-recieved by critics, the formula for them is going to get old. Just running and running really fast doesn't make a great Sonic game. There needs to be more substance to it. A SA3, if it's done right, would do wonders for the series.
Beau Skunk
I think the deal with Sonic Heroes was they were trying to make it more simular to the Genesis games of old. Such as fewer cinama scenes, a simpler story, the return of an old Sonic villain, (Metal Sonic) the return of the obscure Chaotix characters, a focus on completing levels, and having to get chaos emeralds from bonus levels, among other things. All in all, it was a pretty good attempt, but some people couldn't get used to the "team" system, and giving the enemies "hit points" made fighting enemies a li'l more tedious for some. (Not to mention the bottomless areas surrounding most levels.)Regardless, I loved Sonic Heroes personally. I'm a tiny bit more partial to it, then the SA games personally, though the SA games were pretty cool to.A common misconception with the Sonic series is that it relies on "running fast," but the truth is, it relies alot on platforming as well. (Sega seems to be realizing this with "Sonic Colors," and "Sonic 4.") I always see people complain that Sonic games either "arn't fast enough," or "don't have enough platforming." It's difficult for Sega to please everyone. (You'd be surprised how many "Sonic fans" there are out there who only like the old 2D games for the Genesis.) DarthDelgado
I actually believe it or not really and truly hate 2-D platforming so, you can kind of guess where I stand in the matter.

Vixie Darkmatter
I'm curious, I really liked Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), I have heard nothing but negativity about it though. Is there anyone else who likes this game?
sjrathbun812
I never played it. I'm not sure I should because of the reviews.
Beau Skunk
Well, I tend to not trust reviews when it comes to Sonic games. (Especially considering some major gaming sites like IGN & Kotaku even admitted they're biased against Sonic.)I personally enjoyed games like Sonic Heroes, and the critically hated & controversial "Shadow the Hedgehog" game, (And I'm not even a huge Shadow fan personally) wich both received negative, or mixed reviews.Meenwhile, I personally hated the much better-reviewed "Sonic & the Secret Rings" game. (Why in the wide world of extreme sports is that game rated much higher then the "Sonic Adventure" games on IGN again?)

DoctorAllosaurus
I just stick with the Genesis/Megadrive games, mostly because I'm not really into 3D platformers. Don't get me wrong though, I'd try them out if somebody lent them to me (I like to give every game a fair look), I'm just not likely to go out and buy them though. Beau Skunk
I'm not kidding, see for yourself. Granted, they gave it a good score when it was first rereleased in 1999 for DC.Sonic Adventure 8.6 But oddly nowadays IGN gives it much lower scores during it's rereleases. Sonic Adventure DX 5.0 Sonic Adventure (X-Box live version, wich a friend tells me is the same as the original pretty much.) A very low 3.5! (On a scale of 1 to 10)Meenwhile Sonic & the Secret Rings has a 6.9I find it baffling personally. I assume maybe their newer critics/writers for the site just arn't big Sonic fans. (Judging by all the negative arcticals.)
DarthDelgado
Yeah, I really don't base my views on reviews online. Or any reviews for that matter. Not just on Sonic, but on any game. I know what games I like. Some other reviewer might not find those games interesting, and score them low. I base my opinions on what ever I I think, based on myself playing the game, or seeing gameplay.
Beau Skunk
Yeah, every game has good & bad things about it, people forget. (People/critics tend to focus to much on the "bad" when dealing with modern Sonic games.)Even games considered "perfect," or the "best" such as "Zelda: Ocarina of Time" had a few minor downsides about them looking back. Remember how tedious it was to equip & unequip the iron boots constantly in the Water Temple via the pause menu? (Something I hear they're going to "fix" in the 3DS remake.)With modern Sonic games, I just take the good with the bad, and hope the bad doesn't outweigh the good. Nowadays, it seems to be getting trendy to bash Sonic constantly on the internet. One major gaming website (forgot wich one) listed Sonic on the #1 spot of a top 10 list titled, "video game characters who need to die." (Slippy Toad was on the list to, I must add.) The review website Kotaku even admits they're biased against Sonic on a semi-regular basis.Kinda a shame to see a once-beloved video game icon get dragged through the dirt & slandered so much lately. I don't love every Sonic game either, but I'm not ganna constantly hate-on him over that.
