He's the hero because Bowser used to not be a total joke and actually did things other than capture the kingdom's royalty, such as effectively dooming the citizens to an eternity of floating in the air as an immortal block.

well, this is a controversial issue here. Lol. 

If you think about it, peach has been kidnapped so many times, you almost have to conclude she's letting herself get kidnapped. She needs better security at her castle, and as many others have said, she needs to take self-defense classes.

You almost have to wonder if Peach calls up Bowser and  says "I'm in the mood to be kidnapped! Can you come over?"

JK.  Bowser is a kickass turtle, and he was fun to play as in Bowser's Inside Story. I always liked Bowser growing up, and always chose him in mario kart even though I lost etc. So in that sense, more favor to Bowser, but Mario is really awesome too, with his animal suits and jumping abilities, super powers etc. So it's a very close contest who is more cool. As for the whole good guy bad guy thing, it seems like the whole thing is staged rofl. Also, a correction, turtles are reptiles, so Bowser's a reptile not an amphibian, at least I THINK I'm right. And speaking of spaghetti, I love spaghetti who doesn't?

So who do I favor? Mario, Bowser, Yoshi, Peach?

You have to ask the question, when is Peach just going to decide who she likes best?

Maybe she'll marry mario and bowser will be forced to be best man. Or vice versa. And does Mario even know that Peach is the real mastermind behind it all? Maybe not. Maybe he innocently thinks he's saving her.

That's because it was an RPG. Mario and Bowser almost ALWAYS team up in RPG's, in Superstar Saga they teamed up to find peach, but Bowser usually has selfish motivations rather than actually wanting to help mario save the day. With that having been said, Fawful was a hilarious character, he should be in the mainstream wii mario games too, at least a cameo, I mean come on he was funny with his "I have fury" and whatnot. And Peach? Yeah, she helps Miyamoto come up with the "original" exhilleratingly fresh new ideas for the games and calls up Bowser to kidnap her again. Seriously, we need a plot that does NOT revolve around Peach being kidnapped, in the next platformer. Maybe have Super Peach Sisters, where Peach and Daisy have to save the mario brothers. You could substitute Bowser with Wario and Waluigi. Come to think of it, are Peach and Daisy sisters or friends or what?
