Starfox Uncharted 2?

Recommended Posts

I just played Uncharted 2 recently and I like it, setting aside all the swearing. But it's gunfights are really epic and the controls are really smooth and fun to work with.

Does anyone think Starfox should run of an engine like the one Uncharted 2 runs off of? As far as on ground battle goes, I think it would be great idea, especially for something like Multi-player.

I've Heard many good about that game, But I havn't really felt much of a need to buy it. But It would pretty nice get some decent action into the series.

It's not on PC and has no mod tools as far as I know, so no.

Well that's a good argument. Much better than saying you never played it so you're not sure. lol

I'm well aware of that, Especially after seeing the Trailer on Playstation Home 6000 times. (Now that I think about it I havn't been on there in months...)

It would be pretty cool to see that happen :D, although as previously stated;

I don't know why Uncharted would be on computer -- it's fine where it's at.

Anyways, it would be interesting to see a Starfox game made like Uncharted (Even though I've beaten both and they were sheer masterpieces), but people would start to criticize about the Arwing levels not being in the series.

Even though it's a good thought, we can only dream it.

You could make it perhaps? True, you can't make it in uncharted engine, but unreal or rage when that comes out would allow you to make something like that I'd imagine.

Well I'm not talking about dropping Arwing levels. I'm talking about making the levels where Fox (Or other) must come out of the Arwing similar to Uncharted. I'd just like to see it's gunplay engine be incorporated in someway in the next or future Starfox game

SF mod for Uncharted 2 would be cool, but alas, no mods on PS3.

A few similar games that you could mod, though:

Gears of War

The Scourge Project (I've never played this one, but I know it has a cover system)

Scurge runs on the same engine of gears of war, and is rubbish.

*facepalm*

No, no guys. No mod. I was never talking about modding Uncharted 2.

What I'm talking about, is if Nintendo made the next Starfox game have it's ground gameplay similar to the Uncharted 2 engine. Not the ACTUAL engine but a style similar to it.

I can visually see a Star Fox game with any game engine whether it is Unreal, Source, Rage, Havok, etc.  Now, the Uncharted-like engine would be interesting to see since it was one of the visually impressive engines I have seen in ages.  The Arwing missions would be potentially interesting as I can see you on the side of the wings with a heavy weapon (Not the plasma cannon since you somehow RANDOMLY get it in Assault while on wing missions), firing down at the vehicles tailing on ground, or by air, and taking them out resulting in their vehicles tumbling around on the landscapes, or exploding in midair.

Also, there would have to be some pretty dynamic, or simple, platforming design to make it worth the playtime to do to make you think about the route, the reactions and comments your character(s) make during intense situations has to be somewhat comical or combat-insultive (Like, "COME ON, YOU BASTARDS!!).

Story has to be somewhat long and ongoing, plus with a plot and theme to make it worth the gamer to enjoy so that it's not just an action game with heavy explosions and beautiful environments.  Although Uncharted 1 and 2 had both, a Star Fox game with both of these would raise the bar of the fandom and popularity by a drastic margin if this were to come to reality.  Oh, but our dreams can only go so far.

Nintendo and all the third party companies who made the SF series made their engines from scratch just for those games. If you throw in an engine already made you have to deal with licensing for the sandbox. Most VG companies working for big companies like Nintendo usually don't want to go through that.

As long as it Doesn't use any of the Wii Stick's and Uses an Actual controller I'd be fine with it...

No no no. I never said that. Note that I said:

I think Harmony gets it.  :)

It could be an incredible idea, but Nintendo doesn't look like it's wanting to go very advanced hardware...or taking time on games like StarFox and Fzero right now

Nintendo hardware is not up to snuff to handle the Uncharted 2 engine  or anything similar to it anyway. The graphics are too high rez to run at that performance.

So pretty much you are asking "would it be cool if Nintendo decided to make a console with the most up to date technology and run high performance engines to run a Star Fox game similar to Uncharted 2."

Good luck with that. It would be cool but the way Nintendo makes consoles that idea is another pipe dream.

Oh you kids and your graphics. One track mind I tell you. lol

I'm talkin Gameplay engine. Not graphics, I'm not particularly concerned about them.

You keep thinking that I'm suggesting Nintendo take the engine from Uncharted 2 or either make the exact same engine which..... I REALLY have no idea how you guessed that, because I never even stated said fact and I already tried to say "I didn't" already.  :|

Anyways just to reinstate, I'm talking about the Gunplay and the basic movement. It was meant for intense action moments that heighten the effects of combat and adventure. None of that requires high graphical input, although high rendered graphics do help. But it mainly involves intricate programing which may be something Nintendo wouldn't feel like devoting much time to, but it is still a possibility.

Well, for one, graphics do add to the gameplay. Just think how much worse uncharted would have been if it was 8-Bit (Not that bad, but worse than 3D)

And 2, actually, I would like some elements to be like SOCOM or Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. That would give you more direct control over your squadmates and EPIC stealth sequences, along with satisfying sniping. Or even better, something like Rainbow Six Vegas, where you would transition from 1st person to 3rd person in cover. :D

Because you stated that in the beginning of your topic. You asked if Nintendo should run off the engine similar to Uncharted 2. You kinda contradicted yourself there. Its hard to follow what your trying to say when you mention one thing and mean the other.

This is the 21 century, if graphics aren't a real issue in gaming then all video games would still stick with 64 bit. Star Fox on the SNES back in 93 made attention for the graphics alone, because it was one of the first SNES games to incorporate 3D (even if it was full rotation isometric). So Graphics do make the difference.

Star Fox already had something good going with Star Fox 64, but they decided to go wild and make one adventure video game and one mixed bag. Nintendo messed with something that was already good. Trying to imitate elements from a Sony video game isn't going to help the Star Fox franchise any better. What makes a good game is being original. Star Fox was original for being a on rail flying shooter game based in the genre of science fantasy. I don't think elements similar to Uncharted 2 is going to improve the Star Fox Franchise when they can evolve with the raw materials and ideas they already had with Star Fox 64.

I said an engine "like" and "similar" not "exactly alike". I do think they should incorporate an engine similar to Uncharted 2. That doesn't mean I think EVERY single element from Uncharted 2 should be implemented into Starfox.

Also I say graphics aren't an issue because that really isn't what we're discussing in this thread is it? Whatever graphics Nintendo will set for the next Starfox for Wii, or another future revolutionary system will more than likely be good enough to satisfy. Nintendo brand series (Examples: Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3) usually are given the most superior graphics anyway when considered to Multi-platform games. So that's why I'm not so pressed  to be concerned about it.

What you seem to skimming over however is how graphical effects and textures do not affect gameplay at all. It makes things look cooler and more impressive yes. But overall gameplay style is unaffected by it.

It has to do with EVERYTHING we are talking about in this thread, no graphics no way of seeing the game play without it. I said my peace of how i feel if Nintendo decided to go with an engine for Star Fox similar to Uncharted 2, and I think there's small chance it will ever happen. If it ever does  happen I wouldnt like it because if you are a real Star Fox fan its not called, "Ground Fox".
