Sabre
Skip to the bottom or read full for the context. Those who remember when this sub forum first appeared I made a thread about artists who often break the rules of the forum, but you want to talk about. Well, there is one artist I love but I haven't posted here out of a combination of embarrassment and waiting for her to get over a certain trend of increasing naughty stuff she is currently indugled in to end.See, she is a great artist with a cast of cute and lovable characters. Her drawing skills are amazing and I love her work. She also has a certain kink. I won't mention the kink, but she likes an anthro version of it.Now, I don't have a thing for anthros, but I see the appeal and thus I don't hate it. To me anthro is on the same level as hentai. Her kink though is something that again, isn't my thing, but I don't mind it. It's none agressive, and sort of cute and fun in it's own way. Again, I see the appeal, but it does nothing for me.Until recently.See, I used to have a running joke that she is a part of a conspirasy to turn all of her non-kink fans into kink-sters. Twice in the last month though, she has posted something that had me thinking "Damn. That's hot." which is weird because I'm not into that. So, the idea and what I want to discuss is this. Is it possable to pick-up a taste for something simply due to exposure without some interest to begin with? Second, have you ever come across something that you we're not into/don't usually like that you felt one or few examples of you liked? Doesn't have to be adult, could be music (stan is the only good rap some I know) or anything else.In mature board to the adult nature of the example for context and to prevent flamewars. Milkyway64
Definitely. I couldn't even begin to count the "acquired tastes" I have picked up from sources other then my own choice. Being a furry is one, a few types of food, video game genres, and even a few kinks as it were.

Star Fox Runner
I honestly didn't used to like Anime that much, but when I met my girlfriend, who is a a diehard anime fan, I started to develop an appreciation for it. I'm not as hardcore of a fan as she is, but I've taken an appreciative liking to the genre.

I like the BDSM scene, and many (but not all) of the fetishes it has to offer.I honestly didn't used to like Anime that much, but when I met my girlfriend, who is a a diehard anime fan, I started to develop an appreciation for it. Fana McCloud
I'm practically a living sponge - I'm greatly affected by my environment, so I tend to pick up a lot of things from people, too numerous to list. I kinda thought that was human nature though. And isn't saying that anthro is on the same level as hentai kinda like saying yiff is on the same level as anime though? Not all anthro/furry is adult in nature. XD
Guest Julius Quasar
A lot of the scenes, especially the sub cultures like Goth, BDSM, and more...they have some good people in them, but they're now plagued with elitist douchebags who suddenly discovered the scenes, invaded them, and consider themselves one of those people, and act like they [themselves] are the best people to ever join those scenes, and that every new person to the scene is just a "noob/poser/wannabe"...I've seen web forums go to hell, clubs, parties, and some conventions going to shit...Elitists ruin the scenes...they ruined their own existence, so they got to move like a virus and destroy the existence of sub cultures, because they're too stupid and insecure to have their own identity, so they acquire a new false identity in a new scene, like a mask, and insult people from behind this identity mask. The elitists already in the scene ruined their clubs, web forums, etc., with their crappy, snarky, mean behavior, so they move to a new one and make the people there miserable. Vy'drach
I think "acquired" tastes (except for food, never understood someone getting a taste for something they didn't like originally for food) are more a state of mind. When I was younger, I was much more against yiff and some other fetishes out there, but then I grew to understand them, the reasoning for them, and how to look beyond them. As of now, I am completely neutral with anthros in sexual situations (unless it's Krystal, but that's the character, not the genre itself). Yiff is the same as hentai to me, animated porn. The fact that one's subject material isn't human doesn't matter to me.Another thing I've noticed is exceptions. You may not be into the fetish itself, but there's certain scenes or images that make you stop, look, and think, "Damn. That's not bad, actually."A lot of my open-mindedness when it comes to other sexual interests and such comes from the talks I've had with my friend Grant. We used to debate fetishes and the reasoning behind them, and that alleviated a lot of my former prejudices. And have a situation recently, Julius? Because that little rant (while fine, to me), was completely random, lawl.

"I'm better at wearing leather then you!" ?Actually, yeah, there are some like that, but it's more like..."Kinkier than thou" attitude But those people are elitist dickwads, and some of the clubs they founded, they're as exclusive/snobby as country clubs I've seen. They also say "We're tolerant and non-judgmental". Total bullshit. They insult or reject anyone they don't know....I've had to put up with:"Kinkier than thou", "Gothier than thou", and "Furrier than thou" attitudes of these jerks. By that I mean they act like they invented/founded the whole scene and concept, that they know everything there is about the scene, and that they're just better than everyone, period. They're "intellectuals", and stuck up smart people with ego issues, always telling people like me how dumb I am and how people like me are poster children for abortion. Like they're some kind of prize.
Steve
A good example would be someone like those people from the KLA, with their smug attitude, mean condescending demeanor, nasty, snarky posts/remarks, and elitist attitude. The KLA alone...*shakes head*Oh man, how many times do I have to tell you, do not address other forums like that, here on SFO . User and Mr K are members from that place, they will probably get insulted if they hear ya saying these kind of things, among other members. Like they're some kind of prize.I actually kind of love running into people like that, especially the "Gothier than thou" type. I usually have some good words for em, depending on what they look like and what their problems with me are about (especially love the ones that think you need facepaint to be gothic). Usually insults them, shows their lack of knowledge of the fandom, and ends with me saying, "Now get out of my way or I'll break your face." Actually had a situation where my friend's brother became super "hardcore" goth. He had the full on white facepaint, black eyeliner, black lipstick, and black nail polish. I saw him and started laughing, and said, "Dude, you're Mexican, facepaint doesn't work that well with you." He got all pissy and said, "You're just mad because I'm more gothic than you are." I laughed, told him, "Dude, I've been gothic since before I was eight, and as for you, I have seven words for you. You were afraid of Nightmare Before Christmas." He just lowered his head and walked away.

I don't even like the KLA much, but its not really any of the things Julius claims.Anyway, on topic: I don't really have any kinks. Before you point fingers at me and go LIAR, hear me out. What turns me on is my girlfriend. Example: she wants to do some bondage, and I am totally turned on by it. I see bondage on the internet, and I go "eh whatever" and keep going. I have virtually no sexual attraction (keyword: attraction, I'm not saying I can't tell if a person is attractive) to "random" women, but my girlfriend puts me into high-octane mode. And now you know.Ok, I wasn't telling to total truth there. I do have one universal turn on, and that is a lady with curves. Not fat chicks, but meaty ones, who have a defined waistline, but not a stupid skinny one. thankfully my lady is one of these women

Always found it rather unattractive if the rib cage or hip bones are too pronounced. Preferably I don't really see either, but a bit is fine. Too pronounced is just unhealthy. Asper Sarnoff
As of the original question, yes I think I can say that's happened to me on a couple of ocasions, and I don't think it's that unusual either to under certain circumstances see the appeal in something you're not really into. And yes, I also have a couple of kinks which I'm fully into.
