In SF64, Star Wolf was basically a group of hired guns. Leon tells us this with his line: "Andross has ordered us to take you down" followed by Pigma's (if for some reason Peppy is down) "We're gettin' paid a lot of cash for this"

We didn't get to know the old Star Wolf that well save for Pigma with his history with Fox's father. It is hinted that Star Fox already had some sort of feud with Star Wolf before the events of SF64 even happened when Fox said: "Just what we need to see, Star Wolf"

Then, one has to wonder why Andrew is hanging around with SW to begin with since he should technically be alongside Andross at all times....

In SF Assault, we see some character development in Wolf and Leon. Wolf has seemingly matured. He has gotten over his dislike of Fox and always talking about that one day "he will defeat him"and for whatever reason turns out to be a very logical, cool-headed individual. Leon on the other hand became more of a psycho, contradicting the "sophisticated hitman" personality he had in SF 64. Panther is introduced to us, and in a way, adds to the team with what everyone else said before about his making up for the lack of numbers by showing he has more skill than Pigma and Andrew combined.

Add it all up, and it seems that the SW team has improved. They seem to be moving in the right direction and just need that fourth member to put it all together and become quite a force when compared to the SF team.

Newer Star Wolf. The Wolf, Leon, Panther lineup seems to fit more than Wolf, Leon, Pigma, Oikonny lineup

I prefer the new lineup. A more elite team, without the comedic relief, makes for a more intimidating battle. Actually, having three members reminds me of an old Soviet air force tactic, but I won't bore you with the details.

That being said, Pigma was the enemy you love to hate. He's so mean that when you finally kill him, you feel awesome. And when you get rid of him for good in Assault, it's even better. And Andrew is just a dumb-a$$.

I like a challenge, so I like the new Starwolf team. They could use another member, though. I was thinking maybe Miyu.

I like both. Andrew and Pigma were my favorites of the old team, but I also love Panther.

I secretly want a retcon that has the team with Panther AND Pigma and Andrew

But The Star Wolf Team aren'tĀ  much of aĀ  challenge in Assault..Ā  Sure the team looks cool but they were too easy to kill.

Easier than SF64, to be honest.

Just try it on gold with zero life left!

Charge shots.

^^^Which is why I think that charge shots should be removed from all future SF games. It really is an overcharged homing lazer. Lazer upgrades don't affect the strength of the charge lazer at all. After SF64, charge shots became way too easy to spam. At least you had to wait about 2 seconds to use it in SF64. In every other SF (except for Adventures, which did not have one, that I loved about it) it was way too easy to lock on to enemies that were WAY out of reach with regular lazers.

The lock on in Assault was very broken. But then again, so was a lot of other things in Assault.

I meant to say that I would like them to be more of a challenge. More of an elite team then comedic relief.

They have comedic releif either way. Panther is an ace and he's a flirtatious ladies man. Pigma can be considered an elite too because he's a veteran pilot.

ahh, i wouldn't say they were a comic relief. more like a rival team thats ment to constanly try to beat the star fox team but never win like in pokemon with jeese an james

Funny, I always thought that Jesse and James were comedic relief too...Ā  :P

Okay, I will admit that they never really were comedic relief, but what I mean is that I wish Starwolf was a stronger enemy in the game. I'd love to see something like a boss battle where you have to keep up to Wolf's maneuvers in order to get a good enough shot to take him down, sort of like a simulation of WWII style combat, where you couldn't just spray and pray, you have to sit behind your target and land solid hits.

...but that's just a bit off topic. I like the new Starwolf better.

I prefer the Old Star Wolf Team. I don't know why.

Because it's more of a challenge to beat them

New one all the way (except Panther is a little...intersting); Pigma was a jerk and Andrew was a DumbassĀ  :hehe:

but it would be cool if "New" Wolf had a British acsent like in 64 but...more up to date; not that im saying his current one is bad or anything
