What is Scott Pilgrim?

Ok, this keeps coming up so I thought I'd ask around.

Basicly, what I think I know so far is this, Scott Pilgrim is a crappy comic series with the same plot as every other romantic comedy ever made. The one factor that I can tell that sets it appart is that it's full of game refferences. I don't want to read them because I have better things to spend my time and money on then another bloody romantic comedy, but gamers and comic fans keep mentioning it as the most awesomest thing evar and now there's a film which looks embarrasingly bad.

Not really, it isn't boy meets girl, loses girl, gets girl back (which usually is the romantic storyline from what I've seen), it has so more to the story, if anything it is an comedy-action series of comics with tints of romance with heavy amounts of video game puns.

As I mentioned before, it is more of an action-comedy, the romance isn't played up that much.

People have opinions, for example, you liked District 9 (if memory serves me correctly), I hated it. So people will like Scott Pilgrim whilst others will hate it.

now there's a film which looks embarrasingly bad.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the trailer, it was actually pretty good. But with that said, it won't be everyone's 'cup of tea'.

I actually want to see the film, having not read the comics, because it looks so bad it'll be awesome. Didn't know until my friend showed me a certain trailer that there were superpowers or something in it. One of her exes appear, I just ask my friend, "Look at this douche," and suddenly he's flying around like Goku, which prompted me to ask, "Since when could people fly in this movie!?"

I might go see it. I read the graphic novels and I wanna see how close the movie is to it. Meaning did they get everything correct or what stuff they just made up.

How do I describe it? It is like the movie/comics are the video game. It doesn't make reference to almost any game (apart from Zelda and some dance game which are played during it), it just has things like points when a bad guy is defeated and coins as well, also a 'KO' is shown in big letters when the bad guys are defeated. So if you get what I mean the series/movie is the game, not any specific game references.

I'm definitely planning on seeing it when it comes out. I can't ever remember seeing a movie with such heavy video game references.

Actually, I did, don't be an ass and assume. There's enough comic samples on the page for you to get a feel for what's going on. Maybe you should read, too.

So this is where the inspiration of the movie came from.

You know... They could have picked a much prettier person to play as Kim in the movie. :/ I mean, how they've made her look compared to what the actress really looks like... It's kind of gross. She's much prettier outside the Scott Pilgrim movie. Meh, I guess it doesn't matter.

The movie is awesome. The ONLY example in the WORLD (imho) of a video game movie that is good. Funny in ways I never would have imagined. Almost continuously laughing when I saw it. I had the good fortune to get to see the movie two weeks before it came out (preview screening). I sat between two huge fans of the comics, and me, I knew next to nothing about the back story other than what I heard in the trailer (which looked over the top, and slightly interesting). All of us liked it. Even though it doesn't stay entirely true to the comics (as all movies must), both of them were laughing their heads off, because apparently, the changes made were just as good as the original material, just different.

Hang on. It's based on a book, not a game.

If you mean a game themed film, then what about war games?

He means it had video game like references. Like sound effects, extra lives, power ups, etc.

Because references are not funny, otherwise epic movie and super hero movie are the funniest films ever made.

It's about the execution, not the material.

As for video game references, not sure. But it's more about what they do than the fact it's references.

Someone can make a video of people using cheat codes at life, and it can be hilarious. Someone else makes a video of a guy getting one-ups or dungeon crawling, and it's not funny because it's poorly executed.

Then I remembered this little video, that my friends showed me, and I found it hilarious.
