Venus before WE knew it

Do you guys think Venus once, maybe millions of years ago, was able to support life like Earth is? If so, what do you think happened to make Venus so barren?

The greenhouse effect...in a total IMO situation of Science Fiction thought ( ) Venus could have possibly been a home to some race. But as the Sun grew, so did the Temperatures, and there is issues with Pollution that people here on Earth think might cause the same effect.

Wow. That's an interesting thought. I really can't decide what I think. Mars is way more likely.

i think that as our star continues to expand, our world will eventually be destroyed by the rages of the greenhouse effect, then melting the polar ice cap on Mars.....that will start life after a few million year

>Implying anything existed millions of years ago

I think this topic would be better suited in the Pub :)

Earth existed millions of years ago. Covered in things called DINOSAURS.

Anyway, Venus was probably never earthlike. IF you want a possible once-Earthlike planet, look at Mars.

Stars get COLDER the bigger they get because they're EXHAUSTING FUEL. When the sun swells to red giant stages (which will be in about a billion or so year), it will be a LOT COLDER than it is now. AND EVEN IF IT DID MELT THE CAPS, Mars lacks a substantial ATMOSPHERE due to a weak magnetic field, and an atmosphere is the key component to creating life on a planet. From there, photosynthetic bacteria can begin converting the CO2 into oxygen, which will in slow due time give rise to oxygen breathing animals.

Maybe all that's left of the Venusians are microorganisms, ones that can survive the heat of even boiling lava.

incorect. the sun will cool down but it will be dramaticly closer to the earht cosing our plant to dry up like a fish in the sun

Someone likes to use CAPS to try and prove his point, but...

He brings up a great counter point, and I have to AGREE! :P You are right, Robert. The sun will get a lot colder, but to us, we will feel it a hell of a lot HOTTER! Cortet never said the sun it's self would get hotter or colder.

Um, yeah, it will RELATIVELY be hotter for the earth (in fact Earth would be a lifeless molten rock), but it will be colder all around. My point still stands.

And someone likes hounding other people's habits like an obnoxious prat. For us, by the time the sun reaches Red Giant stage, the Earth will probably be long evacuated. Not to mention it will still be colder, and it won't melt Mars' icecaps, it will EVAPORATE THEM, as well as the Earth too.

Oh, lets play nice now, Robert. No need to call people names, it's not nice.  I was just saying caps aren't needed to prove points. :P And for your theory, we won't know till it happens, but I kinda agree. And but of course your point still stands. He pointed it out for the same reason you pointed something out of Cortet's comment. Right now, you practically agreed with Ajc that it will die out, even though you commented the way you did with Cortet. Your post really had not much to do with what he said compared to your point. :P

Guest Julius Quasar

Venus has a slow-assed rotation.  1 Venusian day is 243 Earth days.

Not exactly life friendly, but then again... =/

I use CAPS for EMPHASIS, of course.

Large robots with large laser guns once lived there, but destroyed the planet during a war and thus moved to the planet we now know as Cybertron.

OH YEAH.
