Should WW2 threads be banned?

On pretty much every forum, this one included, that has had a WW2 thread desends into chaos and hate that results in the admins stepping in. Would a better solution be to ban these threads outright?

The cause of this, from what I can tell, is the US bravado that they single handly won the won war, and gloss over any facts and losses that go against that idealised picture. One particular eye opener was the thread here a while ago where people believed saving private ryan was a documentry.

My point is, is there any insight that can gained, or friendly discussion that can be had over a 70 year old war where most people education on came from an action film?

There are going to be egotistical pricks that think their country won the war single handedly. I'm an American, and I realize that we wouldn't have won the war on our own. Hell, we got our asses kicked by the Japanese all over the Pacific for the first 9 months after Pearl Harbor, it took us until the Battle of Midway to start pushing em' back.

In Africa at Kassarine Pass, the first US offensive there, we got stomped by the Germans. There is no way that the US could have won without the Allies. The Germans, Italians, and Japanese were just too strong.

The problem is with discussions like this on here is that this is the internet. People don't think. If you start limiting discussions because of stupid people, eventually we won't have anything to talk about.

(Also, our crappy Sherman Tanks sure as hell did us very little, if any, favors in WW2)
