Recommended Posts

Hello all my friends at Star Fox Online! Like some of you may know, I had just turned 16, so I'm getting my licence, tomorrow actually, and I'm a really good driver, not to be bragging but I am :) And I was just wondering if ya'll had any advice for the driving test. Please post ASAP cuz I'm going tomorrow after school and I'm so freaking nervous.

Do a bar... Oh, nvm...

You can't just do a bar exam at will...er....NM.

I was nervous when I went for my first road test and all I can say is that try to be as calm as possible before the actual test.  If you have a relaxed non-nervous mind I will assure you will do considerably better then if you are extremely nervous.  Also, try to have the "if I fail it's not the end of the world and I can always do it again" mindset.  Knowing that there is always a "next time should it come to that" should ease you as well.

Furthermore, if you have ANY doubt on what the instructor asks you to do BY ALL MEANS request clarification before you actually do it.  For example, if he/she asks you to reverse park in "that parking spot" and you aren't sure which one they are referring to then ask for them to clarify.    Or if you are driving down the road and they want you to "turn right" and there are 2 or 3 possible right turns within like....100 meters or so and you don't know which one to turn at....get what I mean?

Besides all that good luck!  I failed my first driving exam and had to wait months before I could take it again.  The 2nd time however I was only docked one point and that was because the instructor told me if she gave me a perfect score it would be pretty "suspicious" so she ended up marking me down for something that was relatively minor that could have went either way. XD

Pay attention to what you are doing. Do not let anything distract you.

Remember to always check your blind spots by looking over your shoulders when ever you back up, they always check for that.

Thanks to everyone! I really appreciate the advice, honestly. My Dad just took me out for a last practice run, and I just want to let you guys know I did great, and he gave me a 9/10 and I feel so pumped and ready to rock. Everybody just please remember me in your thoughts it's really important to me that I get this and I'm sure I will, thanks ;)

Aw man, I was scrolling down this topic looking for the post saying "I passed!" but it was cancelled? Lame! Don't worry, they must have sensed your awesome-ness from a distance and thought "Whoa, better extend this date so we can keep looking forward to meeting this guy!" Haha, just kidding, I just wanted to cheer you up. :)

These things are cancelled quite alot, don't worry about it. I know for a FACT you'll do great. If I had a "GO ROBCOT94!!!" flag I would be waving it all day for you.  :friends:

I've never driven before but I think the key is to stay calm, collected, and focused. Just think about the car, and nothing else. I also agree with FoXXX, practice makes perfect you know! :D

I felt good until you said just kidding. lol

And yes, practice does make perfect. :)

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but if you aren't then please explain how being confident behind the wheel is detrimental?

I only said "just kidding" because what I said was silly, and I didn't want you to think I was silly.

Oh, one thing that is important, DO NOT drive around lowered railroad crossing gates or try to play "beat the train." This is what happens to people who think that is a good idea:

DcgBu0IUIPc

Nearby security camera

G08PKeaXkM8

Cab-Cam view, at :12 is impact. Engie dumps the train @:13. The loud whirring at :22 is the dynamic brake kicking in to assist the e-brake in stopping the train (it wasn't engaged sooner because dynamic brakes require setup time), which finally happens at :54. It took almost 40 secs for the train to stop.

XELW2Ewl468

Aftermath, Anchor says about 150' stopping distance, though it looked longer than that to me.

5 teens were killed because of that stupid decision.

And that's just an Amtrak train. Now imagine a 150-car fully-loaded coal train traveling at 60MPH hitting a car.
