Sticker Removal

I got Klanoa for Wii the other day. Despite being cheap and second hand, it's in great condition. Unfortunatly it's got one of those bloody price stickers on, you know the type that rip off leaving either white stuff or glue behind. Anyone know any good tips to avoid this, or get rid of it if it does happen?

Lighter fluid on a Q-Tip/Cotton Swab.

Well...some of the games that have that price sticker are going to be tough to remove...

So, carefully start on the edge of the sticker, use your pointing finger and your thumb to carefully start to tear, DON'T RIP IT OFF FAST or white stuff is left behind.

If there is white stuff left behind or some glue, try using something wet to remove the white stuff or the glue, heck even the price tag if it fails to come off.

I don't know what else to say other than, if it is glue, be careful where you store the game with your other games as you-know-what-would-happen.

The white stuff shouldn't be a problem though...

I feel your pain, as it annoys the living crap out of me. When I get a game, I expect the cover to be fully seen, without some annoying white adhesive left over from a price sticker. Now I am surprised that nobody had stated this, but if you go to your local Wal-Mart, P&C, Tops, Target, whatever, you can go to the house care section where you can get a thing called "Goo Gone" or "Goof Off." I recommend "Goof Off" if they have it, as it smells better than "Goo Gone," but wither one does the trick. Put the stuff over the white adhesive and rub it with a paper towel until it comes off. If there is a sticky residue on it, just hit it again. You should get it off.

Most general solvents work pretty well. Rubbing alcohol, acetone, gasoline, lighter fluid and nail polish remover all have worked for me in the past, and haven't damaged the packaging either.

I tend to let some rubbing alcohol soak in to the sticker, and into the adhesive underneath, then kinda scrape it off with something like a razorblade, or something else if it's delicate. If it is really delicate, the cotton swab itself can be good at getting them off, though if you're going to use the swab, I recommend getting as much of it off by hand, so all that is left behind is light adhesive, maybe with some paper still stuck to it.

Cool. I'll just hop on a plane to the US. :P

I'm noticing a common trend. I'll see what I can scrape togather.

Hope it works for you Sabre, I just use my nails. :/

Speaking of this rubbing alcohol, where can I find it in a spray bottle? It's for my soap making, long story, but I can't find it anywhere in the UK?

i simply just use an extra dvd case......sure it may be black and not like a Wii cover at all....but at least you dont have to mess with a damn sticker lol....but i agree.....lighter fluid or kerosene works best

this is so easy and wont cost you a cent, sabre, your gonna thank me if you haven't done it already.

Take some peanut butter an smear it on the glue left behind from the sticker and rub it off. The oil from the peanut butter acts as a natural grease removing the sticky residue off of the surface. Plus it makes your surface smelling like samiches :9

Right. And spreading it on your discs get's rid of all smudges and scratches. Nice try, but the jam variant of that joke has been around as long as CDs.

EDIT

Think I'm joking? Look it up on Google. My grandmother taught me this when I removed labels from glass jars. Hasn't Home-Ec taught you gais anything? Also Vaseline can treat squeaky door hinges.

70% Rubbing Alcohol has always worked great for me, it gets stickers and residue/permanent marker off of cartridges and  CD's :P

Alcohol fogs up plastic. But you knew that right?

Try Penut butter, it DOES work. Honestly dude, what's to lose? It isn't gonna Damage the surface your removing. just peel of the sticker and whatever residue is left from the sticker, wipe it off gently with peanut butter

I can see the peanut butter thing working on stickers... I found a thread one time where the topic starter was like "Hey, I need to remove scratches on my disc, what can I do?" And the entire forum took the piss and told him to lather his disc in peanut butter, and the poor guy was like "Okay"... "Hey guys, it made my disc worse!"

That made me laugh.

But yeah I'd try using it on stickers, there's nothing to lose then.

And Off Topic... Does rubbing alcohol have another name in the UK? I really, really need some that comes in a spray bottle.

I have more than a library of more than a few hundred games, mostly bought from GameStop. That game store is notorious for having stickers placed everywhere (even on the discs). I can say half pf them I had to remove the sticky residue with this technique and it leaves a clean surface. I just made sure after applying peanut butter on the sticker to lift the glue with your finger, to have a semi-damp cloth to wipe whats left off in a circle motion. Lather rinse repeat, and should only take 2 or 3 minutes.

I work at a Hardware store and "goof off" is pretty strong for removing just a sticker, its a cleaner meant to remove strong stuff gum and tar. And why spend around 5 bucks for a 4 and a half ounce can when your gonna use it only once?

^Gamestop is horrible when it comes to stickers, it drives me insane.  Seriously, WHO PUTS STICKERS ON THE ART?! Not just the case, but the ART ITSELF! :x

Just buy some and pour it in a spray bottle. ;)

Unless you can't even find any alcohol at all..

And I have no idea how to get the stickers off. My dad's good at that, somehow. :P

I always just scratch it off, though I'm sure someone has given a good solution already, so I'll just go away. ;)
