Guest Mr. Mario
This topic is all about Rare (Back then, it was Rareware), go ahead and post your opinions on Rare yestarday or today, for those that don't know who Rare is, they are responsible for Krystal, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Some Donkey Kong games, Battletoads and Killer Instect. My opinion: Rare was like god in the N64 era, most of their games was great, it had some interesting concept in it, and everyone knows that Rare and Nintendo were a good mix...Then came 2002, the year Star Fox Adventures came out, Rare gets bought by Microsoft for $375 million and what does Nintendo get in return? The Donkey Kong franchise and Krystal, we all thought it was a lousy deal and Nintendo should've done something such as...buy them!!In 2003, it was "The year that Rare died" because of the purchase by Microsoft and their first horrible game together called Grabbed by the ghoulies. In 2006, Viva Pinta was released, and boy did it suck so much, Microsoft and Rare were now starting to become "A company for kids"Nobody is sure what Rare's fate rest with the departure of some members there (Grant Kirkhope, Estelle Ellis, David Wise and etc.) and the games they are making, currently, the game that is in development by Rare and Microsoft is called Kinect Sports, I could imagine how stupid it could be... Sabre
It's hard to say really. Some devs thrive on old hardware, but can't make it on new stuff. Bitmap Brothers and Team 17 for example. But yes, rare made some great games. Many people forget they also made some real crap that is casualy airbrushed from history. Wheel of Fortune anyone? Pretty average if more crappy games arrive on the Xbox 360...I really don't want them to end up like Factor 5...
Showtime 1-1
*accidentally drops an old school TV set on my toes* "F****** f*** f*** f*** f***? f***!!" *jumps up and down*AH! AVGN reference! Atari 5200!okay, back OT, I loved Rareware games, especially the music. David Wise is awesome. It really is a pity that they were overrun by a (*gasp*) CORPORATION and assimilated into the vast, faceless ranks of Microsoft, doomed to try and make good games out of horrible ideas. Or worse, forced to make horrible games out of good ideas.

Robert Monroe
Rare was lost the moment they released Adventures. Say what you will about the game, say how much you LOOOOVE it (and really of all the post 64 games it is the best), but compare it to any of Rare's N64 games. It is incredibly lacking in every regard there. Then Nintendo sold them to Microsoft, which wouldn't be so bad except they haven't made anything good since then. A Conker remake that was EDITED, Kameo which was watered down and rushed for a 360 release, and a Perfect Dark sequel or prequel or whatever that just wasn't as good as the first. Guest Mr. Mario
Well, if only Nintendo bought Rare before Microsoft did, we probably would've seen more of their games in a good way and sometimes in a bad way.I really don't see how the critics think that the Conker remake and Conker's BFD is that good, it's just like almost a South Park episode.Rare even had some projects that always seem to end up changing the concept or moving it to a new console. (Dinosaur Planet anyone? Well I know Miyamoto said that Sabre resembles and they needed to come up with a Star Fox launch title, so how about we take Dinosaur Planet and make it a Star Fox game? Only replace Sabre with Fox and the swapstone to the warpstone.)We were gonna get this game called Dream for the SNES but then I guess for some reason, in 1997, they now make Dream to what we call now Banjo-Kazooie. And it didn't play too bad either. And Nintendo SOLD Rare. Why would they have bought it? Rare was a second party developer.
Star Fox Runner
I miss Rare from the old days, my favorite game from them had to have been Banjo-Kazooie, and Banjo Tooie, if you really looked at them, there were some innuendo here and there that little kids missed and was hilarious for the older crowd! Plus Perfect Dark and Goldeneye were great FPSs for their time. I never did get to play Conker or Jet Force Gemini though.Even if somehow Nintendo were to get Rare back, a lot of their talent is gone, so they would just be getting a shell of a former great company. As for the new Donkey Kong Country game, I really hope Retro Studios can bring back the feel and overall fun that Rare managed to achieve with that series. Most of a talented people had left by then. Even so, they didn't do very well on their own projects either.
