Let's face it, vacations, holidays, and weekends are ALWAYS too short, especially for those of us, like me who hate[d] school.  I fell asleep in class, but I was on medication from 7th Grade until after I graduated, and the side effects from my meds made me fall asleep.  I always got my work done, so I managed to pass.  A few of my teachers didn't mind, but others were/are such stupid egomaniacs, they get butthurt when any of us did that, they didn't care that I and a few other students were on medication, which caused us to fall asleep.  As a teacher, I wouldn't give a crap if my students did that.

Pshhhh, I haven't fallen asleep in High School yet.  *Ahem*That's a lie!  lol  I sleep mostly in my third block class -- right AFTER lunch -- which is my pre-calculus class.  My teacher complains a little, but I'm still passing because the stuff we're going over is too freaking easy.

If the class sucks, I do that thing where you sleep sitting upright in the chair, not being totally concious, so you can still hear the lecture somehow.

And then you lean too far back and you jerk away like its an epileptic seizure episode.

I've come very close very frequently, but the rush from falling usually wakes me up (luckily before I slam my head into the desk.)

I've never been able to fall asleep in class.  I mean, I've even -tried- to fall asleep in class, and I never could.  XD

My friend has had classmates who came to class hungover in the mornings, or after lunch they came to class drunk or stoned.  He said his school used to let students go off campus for lunch, but after they came back to class from lunch drunk or stoned, the school banned students from going off campus for lunch anymore. XD

I fell asleep in class a few times in public school and was actually abosrbing the information the entire time, so when they asked me a question, I successfully answered it. They were sort of amazed and just let me continue my nap.

It was amazing.

I would do the same thing, but most of my teachers wouldn't let me continue my nap, if anything, those assholes singled me out for abuse the rest of the year because I made them look foolish.  I had a few teachers who were cool about it and let me continue my nap, though.

Damn, that has to suck. Our school system is pretty liberal here, so there's a wild array of teaching styles. (There's no set structure other than as long as they get good grades and learn something.) so a lot of the time they're taught sometimes there are some people who might doodle while in class yet still absorb the knowledge or may look like they're resting while they're lecturing.

I know for instance, I had a lot of math teachers in particular that said you only had to do the problems until you understood them? You could do the whole assignment, but you didn't have to if you had full comprehension of it. And the teachers were pretty concise too to the point that they might help you if you had problems. (Which would reflect on the upcoming test.) It's more of the sign of, if you did the work, you could do the test over or get those answers added to your grade or use it as extra credit which would keep your grade boosted.

... In retrospect I went to a pretty good public school.

Sounds to me like you're European, and their schools beat the crap out of California's schools.  (Your school sounds pretty sweet too.)

I know right? I know this is not universal with my state, particularly with Milwaukee Public School District - but the city itself runs on a different system than the State system so if we tried to stick our hands into it they'd get pretty mad.

But I heard terrible stories about California Public Schools due to the overpopulated inner cities and so on. The LA School District is horrendous.

Oh, you're from Milwaukee?  Cool...

yeah, the LAUSD and Pasadena USD are a nightmare.

I sometimes can't help fall asleep in class, especially when it's either warm weather or we got the heater on in cold weather. ;)

Oh no I'm actually from Green Bay - it's Milwaukee the one who is terrible because of the crazy high poverty rates there, over population, and white flight. So if you live in actual Milwaukee chances are your education isn't going to be very impressive. But if you live in one of the richer suburbs, you're better off. (That is, until another suburb grows next to you and takes that suburb's place and your education starts to falter too.)

It's pretty much a case of most of Wisconsin's education is pretty stellar except the southeastern portion of the state, which refuses to accept help.... In part of the richer suburbs who don't want to pay for the city they grew around in the first place. Plus there's the whole mentality that the state doesn't give enough to Milwaukee and the mentality of the rest of Wisconsin believing that Milwaukee doesn't give anything to the state, it's a cluster-F-Bomb- of the whole BIG CITY vs. everything else.

I remember having a friend from LA and she had to explain that her school when she went to college actually was closed and she couldn't send her transcript immediately. It was really messed up.

I can't help but sleep too in warm weather, cold weather I'm wide awake unless I wear something heavy but sometimes I just can't help but take a nap if I'm next to a heater or if the sun is shining right on me.  :)
