The only highway where you can get a ticket for going too slow, making mean or angry gestures or even tailgating.... is quiet amazing...

Ah yes, Germany's Autobahn. The last true sanctuary of speed. It's on my bucket list to go over there, hit the Autobahns and the Nurburgring some day.

Tailgating is illegal here because it sort of causes crashes.

Yes but in american style roads this is something very Bizzare.

Also It's illegall to Run out of Gas on the autoban  go figure.

When my dad and my mom lived in Germany during the 1960's (Europe was the "Green Zone" for Army officers during 'Nam), he drove on the autobahn, so yeah Kursed you're right about the Autobahn laws.

well...if you run out of gas you are obviously going to get hit from multiple directions. Basicall you are screwed. But you got to admitt: Germany makes great stuff; such as the Autoban! :)

...lots of American Highways are based off the Autobahn design.  :D

...except they have speed limits, and highway patrols who do a very good job enforcing them....

well, I was talking more about the "physical" aspects of the Autobahn, not so much the legal/social aspects

Apart from the Autobahn, it's really not much of a joy driving around here.

Especially North Rhine-Westphalia's roads are extremly narrow and we've got too many road works goin on

When my relatives from the USA spent their vacation in Germany they experienced it for themselves...

By the way, "Ausfahrt" really does sound like "Assfart"!

You can get a ticket for driving too slow in the US. Generally they charge you with dangerous driving, as going, say, 20 on the highway where everyone else is going 70 increases the likelihood of a crash. Some roads even have posted minimum speeds. Tailgating can get you ticketed in the US, also. The closer you are to someone, the less time you have to react to avoid hitting them. Being right on someone puts that time in the range less than human reaction time, hence you can get fined for it. Gestures generally won't get you in trouble, unless you cause a crash.

While there are many parts of the autobahn that are not speed enforced, it is the German equivalent of the US Interstate Highway System, and has some of the same issues, namely congestion. Don't expect to be flying down the road in a large city at rush hour.

What many don't know is that there are sections of highway in Montana that do not have speed limits.

do take note though that the fines on the autoban  can range from 500 to higher depending on how 'rich' you are.

Yeah, I've seen some posts where I live that have the Minimum speed limit right under the Max speed limit, Max speed limit is bigger :P

Same in Canada.  Also, the state speed limits in some states is just retarded...especially in the U.S. north east.  Furthermore, why the heck do U.S. routes generally have a lower speed limit than Interstates - considering they are more or less the same type of highway.
