Thoughts on the future of this subforum

I was really hoping this board would turn out to be more than just "What if you met character X," "What if X character did Y?" and "What if Z happens to Character X?" threads, but that seems to be the trend here.

It is making me wonder if it is worth having a separate character board and whether or not we should go back to the days where character discussion was done on the "General Star Fox" board.

Thoughts?

Well, if that is what you were hoping, then it would be easy then to make a subsection of like, "Character, 'What if's' Discussion". That way, we have a board for talking about specific characters, and then a section for multiple situations involving that character, or multiple of them in the same one.

Just a thought though.

I notice this...it has turned into a "What would Krystal blah blah blah" ordeal here. When I first getting into this area it was generally "Your take on "X" character." which I thought was cool, but then everything is not asking on what a characters should wear or what not..and again, mainly dominated by Krsytal questions :(

Part of that comes from the fact that this subforum was once the forum for Mr. Krystal's site, the Krystal Archive.

To be perfectly honest, I really don't want a dedicated Krystal board. My vision of SFO does not include it being "KLA-Lite." That said, I don't want Krystal fans to feel unwelcome here either. Trying to find a balance is a bit difficult.

Well...back in my days, this used to be a Krystal board, other than Krystal, none of the characters seem to be getting attention (Mainly  :fox::falco: ). If we were to get a seperate board of each character:

Fox McCloud board

Slippy Toad board

and so on...

Wouldn't it be a waste since this board is character disscusion which we can talk about any SF character? Could you imagine new SF characters that come in the next SF game? That would add more boards of a character.

My thoughts? I don't think so, but then again, you are the admin and control SF-O along with Steve.

The whole point of the thread I created that you locked was to point out how absurd this board was getting. I wouldn't mind if you removed this board or did a major overhaul.

I can kind of understand that...i would hate it too if my favorite character could not be discussed. but i agree with Samantha, it IS a bit overboard with Krystal.

maybe so something like in the role play thing, have a topic voted on by the mods and see if it is allowed (seeing as how some of them can get)

I think some slightly more stringent rules on the content of the threads/posts, and non-duplicate/redundant thread and quantitative vs. qualitative filtering rules might need more enforcing (no offense).

I do agree completely. Some of the threads are pretty much the same thing, but with a small twist, or have some type of mature meaning to it. [Just my observations though.]

Nick makes a good suggestion with implemented a child board for "What if" questions concerning characters.

Part of that comes from the fact that this subforum was once the forum for Mr. Krystal's site, the Krystal Archive.

That, and also Krystal right now is probably the most "popular" character on the board, regardless of the reason.  I was a lurker back in early 09 when the Krystal Archive board was formed on SFO and even with a board name to character discussion the Krystal discussion actually increased from what I saw.

To be perfectly honest, I really don't want a dedicated Krystal board. My vision of SFO does not include it being "KLA-Lite." That said, I don't want Krystal fans to feel unwelcome here either. Trying to find a balance is a bit difficult.

*Tries his hardest to push aside Pro-Krystal bias*

Personally, I'm happy with the status quo when it comes to possible child boards or reverting back to "General Star Fox", because at least right now I don't see how a change in the board titles would migrate or possibly discourage posts/topics which consist of "What if's" involving Star Fox characters (as has been the case with Krystal recently) unless...as Julius pointed out and Nick seconded:

This at least in my view is the best course of action out of what was proposed so far (if any change occurs).  The last thing we want to do is to create rules that directly or indirectly causes people to post less about a specific character.  If 90% of character discussion topics were about Fox I'd have the same opinion.

Just to clarify: I didn't mean that last post to sound anti-Krystal. I don't want SFO to be Krystal-centric, but I don't want to kick Krystal fans out, either. Krystal discussion will always be welcome, but I think when discussion of any character gets down to repetitive "What if character X did Y" type posts, we passed the point of diminishing returns.

I don't disagree, but I wonder if it were better just to have all of this on the General SF board. Fewer boards make easier moderating, and would also cut down on the posts in question. These kinds of posts weren't here prior to the KA board.

I think it's a good idea to contain all the 'what if' threads

in one board and not mix them with all the other topics in the

General Star Fox board.

To be fair, the threads are 'character discussion' and many

users like to take part in those threads, but for the users who

don't like them generally stay out of 'character discussion.'

I'd say go for a child board, but then like you said, it's more work

and it takes most of the content out of the original board. :?
