Sabre
I don't know what you call it, but those machines/programs record companies use to make tallentless manufactured pop stars sound perfect so they can sell their brand name vomit. Well there has recently been a spike of people using that technolagy to make music from none singing voice clips.First there was symphony of science which used scientist interviews, programs and audiobooks to make science themed songs, andand recently this song. While not great, the fact that it's all people from a forum saying random crap all thrown together in a way that isn't horrible is interesting. Some minor swears. My favourite bit has to be 1-20 where it changes to from dance music to something else for one clip, then back again for the next. Guest Mr. Mario
I think you are talking about Auto-tune.I never really listened to pop ever since I kinda learned about some pop stars using it. (P. Diddy, Emenium and etc.)

(I don't think Eminem uses it, mostly just pop-stars, very few rappers.)Here's a good explanation with WEIRD AL.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYzv-AVi78E

No-talent morons like Slut-ney Spears, Paula Ab-drool, and Christina A-gorilla are a utilizing that, and making millions, while there are very talented singers out there who are in the gutter. That's why I hate pop music.
Robert Monroe
I may not care for pop singers, but Symphony of Science is awesome. Making a catchy techno beat out of Carl Sagan is one of the best things ever.

DZComposer
Gods I hate that sound. Auto-tune and the Vocoder (produces a similar sound to auto-tuning speech, but without the auto-tuning part) have completely ruined what little artistic value was left in music these days. That sound has no character. It sounds so flat (in a texture sense, not tuning) and empty. It's even worse when the auto-tuner is set to equal temperament tuning. There is SUPPOSED to be imperfection in music. The movie version of Chicago Auto-Tuned the chorus. THE CHORUS! God, it sounded awful. The tuning imperfection is what gives a chorus it's sound. Digital phogaphy, film, and in one case music (tapes to CDs), that digital doesnt capture the true note, and imperfects in the mediem enhance not detract. I disagree. Digital phogaphy, film, and in one case music (tapes to CDs), that digital doesnt capture the true note, and imperfects in the mediem enhance not detract. I disagree. That's not what I was talking about. What I was talking about was using devices like Auto-Tune and Vocoders that alter pitch to equal-temperament "perfection." Doing that just sounds bad. Ever seen how a piano is tuned? Pianos are tuned to a form of Just Intonation, IE some notes are INTENTIONALLY slightly out of tune. A little bit of de-tune adds character to the sound. It gives sounds their unique timbre. It's the reason why a section of violins sounds way different than a solo violin:Solo Violin (Skip to around :30 to skip the jibba-jabba):e_rvCsJaHZwSection Violin (skip to 4:25 for the big violin part):ogJFXqYEYd8These two sounds are quite different. The reason? Imperfect tuning!
