"S-M-R-T!  I mean, 'S-M-A-R-T'!..."

*sets fire to the GED on the wall and ends up causing a house fire*

Smart.  Genius.  Gifted/Talented.  "Krelboyne" (for those of you "Malcolm in the Middle" and "Little Shop of Horror" fans).  Prodigy.

These are the nouns we use to describe those who are, well...."intelligent".

Intelligence Quotient.  I think that if you're under 100 points, you're below average intelligence, but above 140 points shows you're a genius (in theory).

Have any of you ever taken an IQ test?  If so, what was your score?  I myself NEVER got to take one.  My parents didn't believe in them, and didn't want me near them, for some reason.  I wish I knew where I could get tested, the internet has too many links to crap sites testing your IQ, and loading up your computer with cookies, spyware, viruses, and God knows what else.

I don't know what my IQ is.  People tell me I'm smart or intelligent, but....I personally don't think so.  I don't see myself as smart, but I'm pretty sure I'm not necessarily..."dumb".  My mind, to me, feels...kinda like the tracks of the Russian Railroad network, like they run on a different gauge, or like my mind is on a totally far off, different wavelength from everyone else, even from people who are similar to me.  I know no two people are alike, but I generally don't relate to others.  I don't think I'm better than everyone or anyone, nor am I inferior to everyone/anyone.  I just...don't click.  I'm usually alone as a result, and strangely enough, I don't mind being alone.

Any more discussions you want to have on intelligence?  Thoughts, opinions, etc.?

I choose to not take them really. Have I ever been interested in taking one? Yeah, but I know that if I score below, I will be pissed. Average, and I will get jealous. Genius [or near there] I will get cocky. All of which I do not need a test for me to behave in that way.

All in all, I don't think of myself as smart, but I am happy with my knowledge and actions and such, which is an intelligence in a sense. I am told I am smart too, but eh. I don't pay attention to it mainly because I see how it can mold peoples opinions of themselves and others around them. I doubt I would fall to that trap, but I would prefer not to take that risk.

If you're going to take an IQ test get a REAL one done at your local Mensa chapter or something and not one of the cheap online ones (which always score you high so you will buy something lol)

IQ tests are crap for the most part. The same person can take the test 3 times and get 3 different results. Also, it is possable to become good at IQ tests. The same way that the worlds smartest man might not be good at halo, he might not be good at IQ tests.

I don't know my IQ, never took the test.

IQs are just a statistic that guage your intellectual capcity and criticial thinking. You can have super-powerful POTENTIAL and still be the dumbest shit alive.

I haven't taken an IQ test though since I was like 13. It was somewher between 120-140.

Not even that. It's basicly a messure of "How good you are at puzzles".

For lolz, I'm gonna add this:

(meant to add it earlier).

Back on topic, I heard IQ tests could be culturally biased from time to time.

The average IQ on the vast majority of "real" IQ tests is 100 (you know, the ones that you walk into a building, pay a bit of money, and take a long and detailed test) so I always find it quite funny when 95% of the people who give their own "results" (usually from some cheap online site) state them as being 110 or over.

I don't think one should put to much weight on IQ tests on determining how "smart" a person is. The human mind is far to complex to be measured by tests focusing on as narrow areas as they do.

Been quite a while since I took a credible test. I think the last one was when I was around 12-14, and I scored 133 if memory serves. I'm usually quite good at puzzles and braintwisters, and that's why tend to get scores like that. On the other hand, I lack quite a bit when it comes to day-to-day "social intelligence".Nervous-2.gif

Given that most people are reporting above average scores, I'm calling bollocks on it. Either the test is broke or people are lying. Take your pick.

Read what I've already posted. The tests people are taking are not "real or reliable" IQ tests.  Go to a local Mensa chapter in your area, pay a bit of money, and take a long detailed test that encompasses several areas, and see what you get then.  Tests that are done online or short ones mean absolutely dick all when it comes to generating a reliable IQ.

Furthermore, age wise, you can't establish a reliable IQ until you're around at the very least 16 years old, since the mental capabilities of the brain are still developing.

and as I mentioned earlier, even those 'real' IQ tests are utter crap.

I disagree wholeheartedly, since most people I've known who have taken these kinds of tests found them to be very accurate, but to each his own.

Completely possible, but if it's taken accurately and honestly then the differences in the outcomes will be negligible giving roughly the same results.

Also, it is possable to become good at IQ tests. The same way that the worlds smartest man might not be good at halo, he might not be good at IQ tests.

Not nearly to the same extent as it is when learning something like a video game or riding a bicycle.  A person's mental capabilities/capacities don't really change that much over one's lifetime, unless one gets really old and gets a mental related disease or while they are still growing up.

They can be. IQ tests are primarily based on white, middle class western societal values, so there is a possibility there for bias, albeit not intentional.

And Sabre, again: these only test your capacity, they have no say in how smart you actually are. Intelligence is measured in a vast number of ways, from reasonins skills to accademic knowledge to practical ability to the proverbial common sense. Any number of people can possess or lack these traits, and they can likewise USE or neglect them if they do have them, so simply possessing the capacity does not make one "intelligent". Not to mention these are tests, and tests tend to make people think harder than they would in day to day life.
