Kay chuckled. "I'm sure," he said. "Now, are we sleeping on the couch, or do you have a bed? Truth be told, I always fall off couches and wake up in the morning feeling like I got hit by a train."

star chuckled at the question "i have a bed, it's just down the hall" she said. she walked into her room, it consisted of a king sized bed, a closet full of monitors, hacking equipment, ect. the room and the closet was clean and neat, she closed the door to the closet and grabbed some pj's "ill be right back. make yourself comfortable" she walked to the bathroom and shut the door to change. she soon came out in Pj's and she layed on the right side of the bed.

It was as Star said "Make yourself comfortable" that Kay collapsed on Star's bed. He wasn't hurt; he was just tired. He was halfway asleep when Star came back out in PJs. She laid to his right, and Kay drifted off to sleep before he could look her in the eyes one more time. As he slept, his mind was not haunted by the visions of the past. His face held a look of peace, and even as he slept, his thoughts remained calm...

* * *

Kay awoke suddenly. He looked around, as though the past night had been a dream. But it wasn't - he was still in the same bed he'd fallen asleep in, and Star was still sleeping soundly next to him. Still, something felt... different. Kay felt neither the desire to hunt nor the desire to get moving, for fear of someone finding him. He felt no danger - which was odd, given what had transpired the previous night; he had expected someone to try to break in the door, ready to claim his lover's life - or his own.

He was thinking as though he was in a warzone, Kay realized. No longer was he in such a place - he was home. He gently got out of bed, taking care so as not to wake Star, checked his armor to ensure it was still in it's place, and headed into the kitchen. He started making a fresh pot of coffee. It was seemingly instinctual that he knew where the materials were. As the pot brewed, Kay had a look outside. It was early in the morning, and the sun was just coming up. The Cornerian Complex was in the distance, the first of the employees and customers arriving. He looked away from the window and headed back into the kitchen. Wondering if Star kept any bacon in the fridge, Kay opened the fridge and started digging around in it...

Star was asleep, dreaming of something....odd. the screams of children, the metallic smell of blood and chemicals and such, the pain from multiple operations and shots she felt, it felt so...........real. she looked to her right and saw a female child, about the age of 11. she was freaking out as her female Twin was doing the same. A white coated male came in and placed her into the cage with her Long-haired twin. They both soon calmed and stared at what it was to be a younger version of star. The male soon unlocked the door to stars cage and grabbed her forcefully as Star fought with every ounce of strength she had. The Scientist strapped her to a medical bed as she struggled to escape. Another scientist, a white coated female holding a mask containing a gas that would put her to sleep, was placed on star's mouth and nose. as star breathed it in, she felt more and more like going to sleep. Her vision soon became blurry and she passed out. Star's eyes opened and Jolted up in bed, finding Kay was out of bed. She breathed heavily, looking around.

"what was.......that all about?" she said quietly to herself. she got out of bed, looking freaked out as ever, she walked into the living room, only to find Kay in the kitchen. She looked at him, trying to look like she was fine, but she couldn't hide the fear that dream gave her.

"hey" she said to Kay, still trying to hide the fear she had gained

Kay noticed his lover's tension, and he was instantly concerned. "Star?" He asked, "Star, what's wrong?" He shut the fridge, approaching Star and gently taking her trembling hand. He embraced her as she shook, placing the palm of his hand on her forehead - his dragon-shifter power entering her mind to see...

... Kay saw what troubled Star. A horrible nightmare. She was in what looked to be a lab - but the lab looked maddeningly familiar, like he'd been there before. He left her mind, holding Star close. "It's okay, Star," Kay said softly, "you're safe. You won't live through that again - as a dragon-shifter, I can do many things - including shutting painful dreams from the minds of others." He kissed Star's forehead, then asked, "Would you like me to shut these nightmares out?"

she didn't know what to do......she knew this from somewhere, but she didn't know where. this could be something to reveal her past.

"the truth is............i don't remember most of my past. This nightmare could be something from it, i don't know...........maybe i should research it a little bit before we get rid of it." she said, still shaking. she wanted to find out what happened before her mothers death. she looked at Kay, maybe. she headed straight to the computer into her bedroom, typing into the search box "child mutation research facility" she entered it in and clicked on a link, which was for members only. she smirked and hacked into it, easily bypassing the security on it. she looked at old files on children that were once there, scrolling down. she then stopped when she saw something. she found out why she couldn't remember her past, she saw her name with a picture of her younger self next to the description. she had her memory wiped along with several other kids. She had also found out a couple other things that traumatized her. she was an experiment, gone completely wrong, who was supposed to be put down the day she escaped. she read though the files, found out Damien was also one of the kids, but he wasn't related to her at all. instead, he was captured, and his mother invited Star into their home. she teared up at the sight she wasn't even supposed to be here, wasn't supposed to be alive, but she kept looking through them. as she looked deeper within the files, she got more and more upset. she finally was full out bawling. She couldn't take the fact she was a mistake, a failed experiment. she sat there, leaving the page with her bio open as she cried.

Kay skimmed over the bio, then picked Star up and held her close. "Listen to me, tovarishch," he said to her, "If anything, you are not a failure - a failed experiment would not have turned me into the person I am now. A failed experiment wouldn't have had the courage to face me, to reach out to me, when others wished only that I die. Know that I will always love you for who you are to me - I care not for what long-dead bios say of you; you were never a failure. Not to me. And as you would not let my past kill me, I will not let your past kill you. You mean too much to me now - I will not let this haunt you." He lifted Star's head, bringing her eyes to face his. "You hear me, Star? I love you - Know that this... old bio will have no effect on how I feel about you; I will love you always for who you are to me - not who you were to them." Kay cleared away strands of hair from Star's eyes, looking into them in a loving manner. "As I said last night, now that we're together, we will set things right... trust me." He wiped away tears, kissing Star gently on the lips. "It's gonna be okay - you'll be safe with me."

she calmed, hearing the words that came from his mouth, made her feel wanted, like she actually was supposed to be here. she soon spoke "i love you too Kay......more than anything" she said. she looked at him, gazing into his eyes. she then smiled, feeling a bit better. she knew he was serious, she knew he wouldn't leave her.

"well, shall we get breakfast started? i think you would be hungry now wouldn't you?" she asked in a soft tone. she walked with Kay into the kitchen, smiling at him, looking forward to another fun-filled day with him.

"what would you like?"

"Well," Kay said, "That's what I was looking to do when you came in looking like you saw a ghost; I was looking for the bacon. I used to make a mean bacon-and-eggs breakfast, though I never really fed it to anyone else." Kay couldn't help but laugh at himself. "Of course, the last time I made such a breakfast was before that op I told you about - the one on Richesse, where I found my urban combat skills were rusty?" Kay glanced at the coffee pot, noticing it was full. Indicating it, he said, "Hope you like my coffee."

she grabbed the pot and poured herself a cup. she took a sip and looked at Kay

"wow! this is good! and i don't even DRINK coffee!" she said as she laughed, still drinking her coffee.

"besides, that isn't the first of these nightmares I've had. this one though, it was the most realistic one out of the rest of them. the worst one was watching the scientists line up all the useless kids and shoot them, like Hitler and the Nazi's" she explained, though not worried. "and the bacon is in the back" she added. Angel walked out, rubbing her eyes. "well good morning sunshine!" star said

Angel moaned as she spoke, her voice a little raspy, like every morning when she wakes up "morning...........whats for breakfast?" Angel asked, seeing Kay at the stove.

Kay worked his cooking at the stove as Angel asked what was for breakfast. "Hope you like Eggs and Bacon," he said over the sizzle of both aforementioned foods. He flipped the eggs, cooking both sides, keeping a watchful eye on the bacon so as not to burn it. After it was all cooked thoroughly, he set two plates of Eggs and Bacon before Star and Angel, then turned to make his own plate. "Go ahead - try it. I won't gripe if you eat before me."

"alright.........." star said. she sat at the table, saving a spot for Kay to sit next to her. she then started eating, loving every bite of it. she looked at Kay while he cooked, smiling at him. Angel ate it, and she too, loved the breakfast he made

"wow Kay! expert hunter AND cook!" angel said as she chuckled and continued to eat. "i couldn't agree more" Star said in agreement

Kay laughed when Angel called him "expert hunter." In a way, he was a hunter - but his prey was often high-risk targets; criminals, rogues, corrupt politicians, and on one memorable occasion, a mad scientist hell-bent on controlling a parasitic race known only as the Flood. He sat down next to Star to eat, saying, "Thanks, Angel." As soon as he sat down, he stood up, digging in his pockets and retrieving his two plasma katanas and his Shurikens. He set them on the counter and said, "Forgot I had those on me - sorry." Kay then ate his meal, then sat back when he finished. "Truth be told, Angel," he said, "I learned to cook like this as part of an op I did about... four years ago - It was out on a planet deep inside the Romulan Neutral zone - Gamma-Virginis, I think it was called. I was infiltrating a rebel base to take out their leader - a Cardassian named Gul Y'vek. I got into their ranks easy enough, but the only cover I was able to pull off without arousing suspicion was a cook - and Gul Y'vek had a taste for Human food like this." Kay shook his head, then added, "Long story short, I managed to take him out... subtly, and my cooking skills stuck with me ever since."

"wow, nice way to learn the art of cooking. and your welcome" angel said. Star looked at the items he put on the counter. "lotta weapons you have Kay. very nice to know they wont be used on ya" star chuckled and finished eating but she sat and waited for angel to finish her breakfast. Angel soon finished, walking to her room to change into proper clothing, star did the same.

A brown furred vixen with multiple tribal markings, about the age of 10, stared up into the window with her Amber yellow eyes, clutching the staff in her hands she stared at the window, looking at it with a blank stare. she watched the group shyly from a distance, she then jumped up onto a tree and climbed it swiftly, still watching the window as she climbed to the top. when she reached the top, the wind blew her brown hair around, as she sat, observing the behavior of the people in the apartment.

(star, I don't suppose you like Eragon fan fiction? It just occurred to me I have a WIP story over the inheritence series - would you be interested in reading it?)

It was as Kay was taking care of the dishes that Kay got a shiver up his spine - and a very cold one, at that. "Star," he said, still shuddering, "Kto-to nablyudaet za nami." (Someone is watching us.) Kay quickly dashed past the window, donning his Yaut'ja armor and hunting mask, and stopped before the window. He cycled through the vision modes until he saw it - someone watching them in the trees.

Unidentified intruder, he said to this person telepathically, identify yourself.

Star looked at what he was looking at. she watched the girls every move

she was silent for a moment, she then stood up to show him she was a mere child. her Amber eyes stared at Kay, with a cold stare, she then jumped out of the tree and landed on her feet without any trouble. she then spoke telepathically

"M0 dumo aj dek amfehkudk ke 0ei, deh nacc ak oloh ro xidkoh. kxeiwx a nacc cok 0ei bden a um u sxact rehd ev kxo Choula kharo. Shoot at me if you wish, though it will be a waste of ammo, do what you think is necessary)" she said telepathically in an unfazed tone, she stood there, watching him like a hawk, with her enhanced vision, she could see the weapons and technology on his armor

"rojatoj, a ted'k kxadb ev m0jocv uj u kxhouk. Idcojj 0ei ukkusb, a nacc jku0 jkukaeduh0, rik a sud joo r0 kxo ceebj ev kxo noufedh0 sedkuadot ed 0eih uhmeh, 0ei uho dek ke ro khavcot nakx. (besides, i don't think of myself as a threat. Unless you attack, i will stay stationary, but i can see by the looks of the weaponry contained on your armor, you are not to be trifled with.)" she added. she sat there still watching him as she did her

(of course!)

Kay remained stationary, giving no sign of hostility. You are right, he told this child, I am not to be trifled with - but I bear no hostility toward you. I do not harm children; I am not a monster. I merely wish to know what it is you want; Why are you here?

(Sorry this reply took so long; had to run to town to mail mom's car payment, then see my brother's councilor, and we nabbed lunch while fixing a flat tire. Yeah, I think it safe to say today was... eventful.)

Kay breathed a sigh of relief, knowing this tribal hunter was no threat. He went back to disengage his armor - with the exception of his gauntlets - coming back out to Star and Angel relieved. "We're safe," he said. "The... huntress out there holds no hostility toward us - Now, shall we head to the, uh... Shooting range?"

"of course!" star said. she listened as the girl then jumped off the roof, landing beautifully on her feet. the girl turned around to Kay and spoke telepathically

Though you might find me in several other places, i bid you adieu)" Spirit announced. she then walked off, fading into the distance.

"she seems like a reasonable fighter, also, she seems like an honest person" star said.

"well shall we go?" star added

(nice.)

"such a gentlemen now aren't you" she said. She walked out along with angel, putting in the lock code. Spirit, unknown to them, was still watching them. She watched from a safe distance, she knew those people from the facility were in the area as well, they wanted Star back. She watched Kay, then soon spoke telepathically to him.

"hunter, the facility men, want their experiment back" she said, still watching him. if he was smart, he would understand that they, if successful, would put her down and most likely dispose of the body afterwards. She skimmed the area just in case any of them decided they were going to attack

I know, Kay responded telepathically. But if those facility b*****ds come anywhere near Star, they will feel the full wrath of a Dragon-Shifter - so swears Kyle Indari, dragon-shifter and child of Cerinia.

Kay checked his gauntlets. Everything was working perfectly - even the materializer system. No one is going to harm Star - not with Kay at her back.

"easier said than done hunter. most of these foes aren't adult's, they are mere children, brainwashed in fact, though i am a child of the facility, i am not brainwashed at all. i appear to be the age of 10, but i am far older then you think. exactly 4,590 years old. why do you think they call me Spirit?"she chuckled.

"but what im saying is, i am an immortal. i still remain to have my memory of the horrors of this facility. we need to get into a safe area, i will tell you what i know once there. shooting range, i want you to meet me there in one hour, dont be late" she said as she ran at high speeds towards the shooting range, making her look like a blur

Kay headed out with Star to the shooting range. He was at least ten minutes early when he arrived, but as he did, he heard something - something echoing in his mind. A cybernetic voice that seemed... maddeningly familiar; it was like several voices, talking in unison. If he didn't know better, he'd swear he heard it before.

"Unknown entity detected... Running sensor sweep for location... located. Entity location in grid 635. Contacting nearest vessel... located. Probe 394, move to investigate. Determine parameters for Assimilation. Probe 394 acknowledges. Engaging transwarp drive."

If Star heard this... collective voice talking in his head, Kay didn't know as he waited for Spirit to arrive.
