The Cornerian Complex

Tran, seeing the dragons, all of a sudden realized that they must be the owners of the ship. Overhearing the conversation, Tran puzzled to himself...

Star Dragon, huh? I wonder where they came from exactly?

Tran continued to stare at the dragons, hoping to figure out their origins from a distance. Perhaps they would give him more clues to figure out the rest of Tran's past.

(sorry, got a bit side tracked. Also felt like i should update Jacob)

Jacob listened to the conversations around him with a keen ear. He wasnt trying to be nosey, but rather being aleart to the area around him. He heard the names McCloud and O'Donnell pop up, which caught his attention, but besides that nothing out of the ordinary was happening. He was about to take another shot of wiskey when he heard the sound of the beam. The glow in his eyes flared a little and he heard the voice of the spirit in his head.

Go, find out what that was.

He left the bar and stopped a few paces away from the table, immedietly recognizing the couple that just arrived as Cerinian.
"The fall of Cerinia was sad indeed, but tell me, how did you escape?" he asked Kyle.

"Balsa is my boss" Trebia says simpally. "If i can get her to stop moving for five minutes she will listen to what i have to say, yes. Hiring you would be a topic i would have to encroach her apon"

Trebia finishes her copious mug and signals for another, placing her glass at the precarious edge of the table.

"If Balsa deems you an acceptable employee, she will send a detatchment to escort you to your room and board. She will find you, have no worries about that."

Trebia thinks for a moment. "Just exactly what work do you do?"

"Ah, I understand now much more clearly. Is it possible for me to speak with Balsa in person about potential employment? Or rather, do I need a special appointment to do so?" Hunter responds. Although he trusts that Trebia will contact Balsa about his potential employment, he prefers to get things done in person, for fear at Trebia may misrepresent him somewhat.

After a slight pause, Hunter realizes that he needed to answer Trebia's question. "Well, since you ask, I consider myself to be an expert in spying on enemy contacts. More or less a special ops strategist if you will. However, that doesn't mean I lack in the aerial combat department. I've got my own ship after all."

"What kind of skills does Balsa look for in employees?" he asks. "Now why didn't I ask this in the first place?" He thought. Hopefully this wouldn't have been a waste of Trebia's time.

"Just out of curiosity, let's say Balsa is not interested in hiring me. How will that be communicated?" Hunter almost smirks at the thought of Balsa looking down upon him (both figuratively and literally) and belittling him, saying he lacks certain skills, and is unfit to work in her operations.

"I will talk to Balsa" Trebia says firmly, placing her newly arrived drink down and looking at Hunter with a keen eye. "You just told me yourself you are a spy, it would be a folly of me to allow you anywhere near the boss." She drinks while giving Hunter another once over with her eyes, stripping him to the bone with her gaze.

"What does Balsa look for? Usefullness. If Balsa can wield you for a month and then discard you with a payment, she will do so. If She can get any use out of you at all, then you would have been a keen prospect to have been acquired."

Another once over "And as your last question, if Balsa cant use you, you will never be contacted again. Simple as that"

"I see you are sharper than most." Hunter notes, although he felt quite foolish after making such a rookie mistake. "Believe me, I wouldn't be seeking employment with Balsa if I wanted to take her out. I mean, not for nothing, she could kill me with her bare hands if she wanted to."

"So let me wrap my head around this, even you don't know how long you will be employed? Balsa could one day turn around and tell you you have been a good employee, and let you off? That doesn't seem like something she would do, at least not as i have seen her enjoying herself here in the bar." Hunter knew some employees made seemingly ridiculous hiring and firing decisions, but the way Trebia put it made Balsa seem even more monstrous than her outward appearance already suggests.

"While Balsa may have extreme executive power" Trebia says. "And while crazy and abgry she may be, the last thing Victoria would ever do is be inefficient. Suddenly sacking a useful employee would not be in her mind ever. I myself have held my position as Duchess for almost a decade now. As long as you prove useful to her and the Captain, you would be retained until you deemed fit to cancel the contract."

She sips and smiles at Hunter. "It sounds draconian and unfair, yes, but let me assure you that we are not in the business of turning away potential applicants."

Reassured that he wasn't being coerced into some kind of hoax, Hunter takes in a breath. "Ok, so basically, Balsa, while seeming incredibly outraged by almost everything, isn't an irrational being. Good to know." Thought Hunter. But wait, he hasn't even filled any paperwork out yet. Surely there must be something he was missing here, or was he just being paranoid again?

"So...how do I apply for a position exactly?" He asks, before asking for a refill from the bartender. It just seemed a bit too easy to apply simply by recommendation. "Just relax Hunter, if you play your cards right, you'll be employed for an extended period of time. And it will be a good change." He tries to reaffirm himself over and over again.

"We will contact you if we deem you to be useful. We have been going through a database of workers, soldiers, and others to weed out the ones unable to rise to our standards" Trebia explains, reaching behind her to pull out a notepad and pen from a pocket around her rear.

"In about 2 days, however, call this number" She scratches down a long list of numbers "And the database will automatically add you to its list of contactees."

"It's been a pleasure speaking with you Trebia." Hunter says, accepting the paper with the contact info. "Thank you for the opportunity."

Hunter holds out his paw. "I'm gonna go check what all the ruckus is outside." He walks towards the entrance, hoping to catch up with the rest of the folks outside.

(Got a new char - thought of her on my way home from work tonight: )

Kyle turned to Jacob and responded, "My brother and I escaped on a freighter whose pilot had been killed in the initial attack."

Drake had just finished his plate, and was about to go for seconds when he hesitated. He frowned, sensing...

"Drake, something wrong?" Anna asked.

"I... don't know... I sense..." He stopped when he saw a newcomer to the buffet, a young lioness woman, dressed in a pink t-shirt and blue jeans. "That woman... she... looks familiar." Kyle and Anna looked over, and as she was seated, Anna queried,

"Where have you seen her? Do you remember?"

"Not really - I said she looks familiar, doesn't mean I know her," Drake responded. He paused, then said, "Excuse me." He walked over toward the Lioness. Kyle shrugged and turned to Balsa.

"Drake's seen a lot of people in the time before he met me," he said. "You know how after so much travel, faces tend to blend together..."

*     *     *

Drake approached the lioness, but didn't speak. Instead, he grabbed a plate and began loading it with food. It was as he was going for the sesame chicken that his hand collided with the woman's hand. "Sorry," Drake apologized.

"Don't worry about it," the woman responded. "I've been hit harder than that before." She looked up at Drake and frowned slightly. "Forgive me for asking, but... have we met before?"

"Well, it seems I'm not the only one stricken by a sense of deja vu," Drake commented.

The woman snorted, then laughed . "Funny," she said with a smile. "I'm Kabier."

"Drake," Drake introduced himself.

"Don't i know it" Balsa heartily agrees, sipping at her drink and nodding her head as she watches Drake depart. "I've been on the road for way too long now."

Kyle chuckled. "We've always been traveling," he said. "My career as the head of the DMC requires I be in many different places. My wife and son don't always travel with me, but when they do, it's always something of major importance."

"Like that time on Romulus," Anna commented.

"Actually, I was referring to that time on... oh, what was that world?" Kyle mused, "The one city-world that was destroyed by Darth... oh, hell, I forget his name..."

*     *     *

Kabier and Drake finished loading their plates and sat at Kabier's table. "So... where are you from?" Kabier asked.

"Dragon'taan," Drake answered.

"Dragon-Shifter, eh?" Kabier queried. "Hnh... never thought I'd get to meet a dragon-shifter face-to-face."

"I deny everything," Drake chuckled. Kabier laughed.

"For a dragon-shifter, you're pretty funny," she said.

"If you think I'm funny," Drake responded, "you should hear my Uncle when he's joking around with dad." He adopted an Irish accent and quoted, "I'll believe that when me **** turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbert." Kabier again burst out laughing.

While continuing to stare at the newcomers, Tran ordered some water. He then decided he would get to the bottom of this by meeting one of them. He came up to Kyle.

"Well, it seems we have a new face here. (Holds out his hand) Friends call me Tran. Nice to meet you."

Kyle smiled warmly, shaking this man's hand. "General Kyle Indari, Dragon'taan Marauder Corps," he introduced himself. "This is my wife, Anna."

"How do you do?" Anna asked by way of a greeting.

Kage pulled up a chair next to Balsa.  He left someone else in charge of his bar while he was gone.  "What's new?" He asked Balsa, half recognizing the faces across from her.

"Kage, remove the penises from your mouth and greet the newest arrivals to the complex" Balsa says, gesturing to Kyle and Anna.

"The least you could do is say hello"

"Hm?" He asked, "Oh hey, how's it going" the mercenary asked, nodding in their direction.  He looked at Balsa, "How was I supposed to know they were new?  It's not like I own the place." He remarked to her.

(Last post for the night. Gotta hit the sack. Gnite, comrades.)

Kyle chuckled. "Actually, I've been here before - not to this complex, but to this world," he said. "But the last time I was here, the trip culminated in a Sith assault. Lead by a rogue Sith lord, no less." Kyle sighed, then introduced himself. "General Kyle Indari, DMC. This is my wife, Anna, and the young one over there," He indicated Drake, sitting and chatting with Kabier, "Is my son, Drake."

*     *     *

"... So, I'm sitting there, watching this Terran drink a Romulan under the table, and the Romulan is just staring, mouth hanging ajar. Finally, he concedes the contest, and the terran lets out this drunken 'woo-hoo,' and the next thing you hear is smack! He's face-first into the table, passed out, and the Romulan just about falls from his chair laughing," Drake finished. Kabier laughed so hard, tears formed in her eyes.

"That's just hilarious," She said. She paused, and then asked, "How long are you going to be here?"

"Well, I'm on shore leave - my family and I, both. However, my uncle, for some reason, thought it necessary to take not only dad's flagship, but a couple of ships for escort," Drake responded.

"Wait a sec - your family is here?" Kabier asked.

"My mom and dad are over there," Drake affirmed, moving his head to indicate Kyle and Anna. Kabier looked, then immediately jerked her head back around to face Drake.

"This keeps getting better," she commented. "Not only have I met a dragon-shifter, but the dragon-shifter I met is the son of the head of the DMC."

"Kage, here, Colonel, V.D.K.A." He said, looking around, "Speaking of which..." He started, hailing a waitress, "Could I see the alcohol menu?" He asked.  He didn't care that it was 2PM.  His internal clock had been stuck on 1700 for a while now.  At least he sobered up for his job.

"I admit, it certainly is posible," Kyle admitted. "I've been all across the galaxy, in multiple 'verses. It wouldn't surprise me if we had met before."

"Kage," Anna asked, "Do you have any Romulan Ale here? Or is that illegal in these parts?"

"My bar stocks it, we have almost anything there.  I don't know about this place, I haven't gotten the menu yet" Kage replied, looking for the waitress he hailed.  Maybe she was a busser, he didn't know.  Either way, soon enough he'd have that menu.

Kyle snapped his fingers and proclaimed, "Taris! That's the world - ever been there?"

Kaiba: "I am pleased to have met you Kyle. I must admit, I am a stranger in a strange land. But in the same instance it is not strange to me at all. I don't know if I am making any sense, perhaps my neural net is experiencing a minor lapse. I will rectify it without delay."

Kaiba paused for a moment and was motionless approximately 12 seconds.

Kaiba: "It seems my main processor is functioning at 56.1% and secondary systems are activated to compensate."

Kaiba's pause yielded an awkward silence.

"Uh." Kyle's flat reaction at the pause slipped off. He was still piecing together what Kaiba was after all.

...Wait a minute.

Realization comes to his mind.

After hearing Kaiba's statement, Kyle's thoughts have been confirmed; he was definitely a cybernetic creation.

"Are... Are you an android of sorts?" Kyle queries.

Kaiba: "I am an artificial bio-cybernetic logistical noid composed of silicon, diamond fused duranium and 50% nano tech. I am sorry, my answer was...yes."
