Dixie Square Mall to be Demolished

Was listening to the radio on the way home from work (Preston and Steve on WMMR for those who care) and they were talking about a mall, when they said where, I had a feeling I knew which mall they meant before they said it.

I wish I could find a 1974 Dodge Monaco and drive through the mall just once before they tore it down

I don't see what the big deal is. (btw, that film is crazy for the number of cars they destory) There is a carpark used in the film 'get carter' that is part of one scene, and the demolition had protesters and everything because it was used in one scene of one crap film. I don't get it. It's not like dawn of the dead where the whole film was based around it.

What's more interesting is why is it being torn down? To replace it with a bigger mall?
