May I share some memories...even thou most of the time, I'll mention "Hikaru Ichijo" and "Max Jenius" and not refer Protoculture as a power source? (Don't worry, I'm not one of those types who'll shred you to bits)

I remember the Protoculture.

The backfired attempt to destroy the Flower of Life... or like that.

Vague memories...

You might be right. What I meant was that when I'm referring to the Protoculture, I'm referring to "the first extraterrestrial humanoid civilization itself and earthling culture itself" - Wiki.

Anyhow, I remember just starting watching Macross back around June of '10 or so (how--slightly--appropriate). After watching past that one episode were the survivors are rescued from space (around Ep. 4 or 5), I felt like as if I was part of the story and sympathized for the civilians when the SDF-1 would transform. However, that changed once I got to around ep. 10+ or something.

I -love- Robotech (and Macross by proxy). I consider them alternate storylines anyway, so no big deal, especially when imo the first seasons for both series were the best. I hated the ending though.

I never watched that much, throught they told me, the ending sucked big time.

It's really sucky or just too simple?

Maybe he's referring to the ending credits?

If he isn't, I'm guessing he's referring to the third season ending or Mospeda's ending (which, btw, I am trying to watch so there better be no spoilin' >:C).

lol, ok no spoilers.

But I throught he meant the ending of the series.

No, I mean the ending of the Macross Saga/first season. It just felt very forced, and really could have ended on a much better and smoother note 12 episodes earlier.

My guess is you're referring to the episodes that follows the whole "climax" episode? If so, I've read a similar issue when reading some topic on the Anime News Network months ago.

Yeah. They wouldn't have been so bad if they had more structure to them, and there were more of them.

Maybe it's because I was expecting this to happen (note: read about it months ago) and I watched it for the drama/relationship (...AND 4 TH3 WH0lE ROBO7 Plane THINGZ FIGHTIN' ALIENZ *pew pew*) but I didn't had any problems with the ending. Except I was kind of "Wait whu?" when Lyn Kaifun was like "STOP ACTING SELFISH [insert famous blue-haired character here who's a pop star]!" because I was still under the whole "Kaifun = dick" thing (Even so, I'm glad he did that). Here's a motivational pic to go with it  :troll: :

Another factor could of been that I was watching the final episodes on a clam day (even thou it was cloudy and was slightly raining), thus making me more positive.

Eh, I don't know. They spend pretty much all of the "reconstruction" episodes to build up a relationship between Rick and Minmei, what with the fact that Lyn Kyle was being a huge controlling selfish asshat, and Rick was looking to be the hero to sweep her away. But then in like, the very last episode, they suddenly make Minmei act stupidly selfish again (which she hadn't done for like half the series now), and then she -magically- just gives up Rick to Lisa because ALL OF SUDDEN, SHE WANTS TO SING AGAIN. This entire sequence was an idiotic asspull to FORCE Rick and Lisa into a relationship, even though the buildup was looking just the opposite.

Don't get me wrong, I love Lisa and I felt bad for her and all, but her and Rick never really clicked on the show like Rick did with Minmei. Rick/Lisa would have been better had the show ended after the "epic final battle" episode because then Rick tells Minmei goodbye and goes to save Lisa, but yeah. The reconstruction episodes just sorta turn a 180 on all of that, go back to building up with Minmei, and then FORCE Rick back together with Lisa. Its terrible romance at is finest.

I also was pissed at the lack of focus on Max and Miriya, the fact Breetai never showed up after the protoculture factory, and how Khyron just seemed like a filler villain.

>>...because ALL OF SUDDEN, SHE WANTS TO SING AGAIN.

I believe she didn't give up Hikaru just because she wanted to sing again (unless that was a change Harmony Gold did). From what I understood, she finally grew up and learned she shouldn't bawl over Hikaru choosing Misa over her (refer to previous motiv' pic).

>>lack of focus on Max and Miriya

There's the episode "Viva Milia/Miriya" where the two go... to some Zentradi ship to prove the "power of protoculture!" From what I know, the whole visit to Max and Milia's house was cut (partially or entirely) due to Milia throwing their newborn baby, Komilia, to one of the characters to hold.

But from what I'm guessing, you meant as in there should of been more episodes focusing on the two.

But yeah, you do make a point of how it would of been better if they would of made the "final better" the final episode. Have you seen Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water? If you have (or not), the final battle in that lasted for 5 episodes. Maybe that's what Studio Nue should of done with Macross; make the final battle 5 episodes in order to fit in character and plot development.

The result? Minds would of been blown upon watching those final episodes.

The entire point is she suddenly has an uncalled for change of heart. In literally the episide before, she had been a broken spirit in need of love and care after Lyn Kyle's assholery reached critical mass. Now, at the -very- end of the episode, she is just magically happy and is all "oh I wanna sing again btw". I don't buy it. Bullshit writing in an attempt to force Rick and Lisa together, and thats it.

Yeah, Viva Miriya was good, but I did mean more episodes as a whole. Max was part of Rick's circle of friends, and at that time he was the only one left -alive-. As for cut footage, I actually watched the restored Robotech series, so a lot of the cut out things were back (like blood and even some sexuality).

Now, I will say this: Macross had a rough development. It was originally slated for 24 episodes (the final episode was supposed to be the destruction of Dohlza's fortress), but then it got a buff for 48 episodes. But during development of these 48, ratings dropped and they were cut to 36 (the reconstruction episodes), so I can see why they were handeled so poorly... but it doesn't make me any less angry over the quality of the writing.
