I've seen this implemented on Arwing Landing under "Member boxes" and the KLA under "The Corkboard" (which I helped start) so what are your opinions on having the same kind of thing on SFO?

Obviously there would have to be rules on what content would be allowed but I think it would be a neat addition to the forums.

DZ, Steve, and the general populace, what do you thing?

You really think this is a good idea after the "Your Life" debacle? O_o

I wouldn't complain in my blog, but knowing me I'd blurt out something about myself I shouldn't have done, and risk getting into trouble.

I think that topic suffered from there being no rule in the "Main posting rules" section that deals with personal drama (either in RL or online). We had this concern about personal drama getting out of hand on the KLA at first but after setting down some ground rules regarding RL situations we haven't had any problems.

For the record the rules that I implemented for that section were as follows: (replace KLA with SF-O)

-------

The Corkboard is a section of the KLA devoted to allowing members to post their own on-going blog or journal.  There are a few rules though that must be followed however when posting.

1.  Each member will have one topic.  You can name your topic whatever you'd like as long as long as it falls in the rules for non-mature sections.

2.  Severe personal drama, as well as "obsessing" in a negative fashion over the same already posted issues may not be in your blog.  We understand you may be going through a really tough time in your life right now but issues like your parents divorcing, financial matters, or real death threats or anything else that constitutes "private personal drama" REALLY shouldn't be brought up on the KLA.  Content that may be constituted as such may be removed at the discretion of the staff.

3.  The Corkboard will be the ONLY allowable section that members may double post in WITHIN reason.  "Within reason" in this case means the time elapsed between posts.  If you make a post in your blog and you want to revise it shortly afterward (less than a couple of hours) please edit your last post to reflect this instead of making a new post unless you are replying directly to someone else in your blog who may comment.

4.  Things like RPing with yourself, or just rambling on about "nonsense" etc is not allowed

-------

I'd be willing to keep a good eye on it as I personally have enjoyed a "member" section on other sites in the past (and I know I would use it a lot) :)

Then you'd either A: Be more careful, or B: Not create one at all. :P

Exactly.  I sure as hell don't want to get any of my friends in trouble either, especially if they were only partly involved/at fault for what I might have done.

I never understood why people on Facebook take pictures of themselves drunk or getting high and post it there.  They also brag about cheating on their taxes in their blog, or stealing their neighbors' cable.  My friend used stuff like that to blackmail his boss into a promotion and a raise, but still...

FoXXX has a point.....even though that's unethical (in my eyes).

It's unethical, but the way of the world. *spits on the ground*

But member blogs, while a nice idea, there could be other potential problems...cutting in on homework time, or gossip getting wrongly spread, etc. (Those are just examples).

All of the sudden, I feel adventurous.

I guess we could give it a try, but it would be your baby. If I have to go in there to deal with anything, I'll just start shutting things down.

I have absolutely zero desire to deal with that crap.

I have one on AL, it's kind of fun. I haven't seen much drama in those member boxes either.

I would keep a blog. I don't have much drama going on but I will talk about soap so much you'll feel clean just reading it. I'd like to document all my plans somewhere anyway.

Doesn't necessarily mean that blogs of that nature would be posted on SF-O and, secondly, what do you consider "dark emotions"?  If it's what I'm thinking it is there isn't anything in the rules that I can see that prohibit such postings unless, as previously stated, it has to do with extreme drama.

I have a question. There are loads of blog sites out there, what's wrong with those? Also, no one reads my blog anyway, most of my stuff (if any) would be just cross posted from there, that and crap about stuff no one cares about, which is the same.

I think it has to do with simplicity.

A blog here would be linked to the forum, if I'm right, it doesn't require a second registration. Plus you would be able to post stuff that you like without creating whole threads that might or might not be ignored.

I just prefer to write it all down in a paper journal, like the one I got today (the lock broke, so I'll have to return it for a refund).

The "blogs" he's refferng to on aL is just another board where members are allowed to start a thread for themselves that acts as a blog. Lol so kinda a mini blog.
