My Top 20 Favorite Animated Songs!

Konchaski

Recommended Posts

Let's do this thing! All right, I'm bored so I'm going to attempt the top 20 of my favorite animated sequences and music. A lot of these have solid soundtracks or animated sequences while others may not - but let us begin, shall we? This took a bit of time, and I tried my best to keep this all varied. Keep in mind, a lot of these songs are still very good regardless - and it was hard for me to rank them.

20.) Flying Dreams (Lullaby)  - The Secret of NIMH

C0-nS6KeDwU

Now where exactly to begin about this scene? It's a relatively short scene and the only song in the movie but the background, the scenery, the music while the voice actor herself sings this scene - not to mention subtle movements. Don Bluth did not often have many songs within his early films but when he did they were good.

19.)  A Girl Worth Fighting - Mulan

RqrV6wefC78

This is just a silly song, but I still love it so. Also a pretty impressive soundtrack for this movie. Though honestly if I was there singing Mulan's part I probably wouldn't have stopped there. I would have kept going and went on a feminist tirade while the rest of the group just walked on shaking their heads slowly in disapproval.

18.)  Part of Your world (Reprise) - Little Mermaid

ovHpMSxgbVw

Now, I don't care much for the Little Mermaid, I never really cared for the story or anything - but the reprise of this song? Is pretty powerful. "I don't know when, I don't know how" from there? Makes you feel for her. Do that with the wave crash - wonderful. Not ripping on the other versions, but this a pretty good scene.

17.) Don't Make me Laugh - The Pebble and the Penguin

MzkLC-TVV_8

This is probably the strongest performance in an otherwise average film, it has managed to make it on my list - although the rest of the soundtrack is considerably lacking to this song except for the song that basically was deemed Award Bait.

16.) Big and Loud - Cats Don't Dance

5aCEDD3cBJA

Awesome movie, underrated, with a pretty solid soundtrack to boot.  It’s fun, light hearted and whimsical - and the song Darla Dimple sings brings out the two sides of stardom quite clearly.

15.) Good Bye May Seem Forever - The Fox and the Hound

cg4X2pFJPa0

A simple song, pretty short, but it's a powerful scene from a pretty good movie no matter how you look at it. Melancholy, fitting with the entire movie.

14.) Yodel Adle Eedle Idle Oo - Home On The Range

NKFz8hnietw

A sadly terribly mediocre film from Disney, but this is a rather catchy and awesome song. You think it was getting dark, you think he's going to do something like shoot the cattle - but instead it becomes a work of comical genius.

13.) It's a B-Movie - Brave Little Toaster

nOeK0Ig-H9g

Ahh, the Brave Little Toaster - a pretty solid soundtrack, a good movie, and absolutely 80s in every aspect of it. This is one of my favorite songs in it that I chose, though if you haven't see it? Go do so.

12.) Perfect Isn't Easy - Oliver and Company

-M6UYwaYRqw

Oh god, I loved this scene. It was one of the songs that stayed in my head in this movie, where as the rest didn't. It was a pretty decent movie in all respects, but this is one of it's stronger songs. It's hilarious in just they show her ridiculous level of vanity. Plus, it's a huge thing you can tell the actor had much fun singing this. :)

11.) A Whole New World - Aladdin

MLsdJlfA23E

Oh, how I was going to avoid this one!!! But it decided to sneak on my list either way. It's still an awesome scene regardless and a memorable song to boot from an extremely welll made movie.

10.) All In The Golden Afternoon - Alice In Wonderland

g0lbfEb8MMk

Alice in Wonderland in all aspects, is pretty much a crazy trip. But this had to be one of the most beautiful songs from my childhood and listening, not to mention the beautiful visuals that go with it.

9.) The World's Greatest Criminal Mind - The Great Mouse Detective

Jw0HlB54CIw

Ohhh this is one of my favorite movies of all time, so it has to be on here. Vincent Price had so much fun with this,  I'm not sure if anyone is aware of it but all the motions Ratigan does in this song? Are the very same motions that Vincent Price did.  This was one of his most fun roles to have and it showed in how Ratigan was animated.

8.)  I Won't Say I'm in Love - Hercules

pfcitJWJgZg

Hercules wasn't a bad movie by any means, but it was pretty average for a Disney Film. Above average for most, but average by Disney Standards.  However this had to be one of my favorite songs in the movie. It's considerably jaded, yet someone falling in love anyway and reminiscing in the past. Catchy. Memorable.

7.) Something There - Beauty and the Beast

3ysRm_C56UM

Ahh, yes I know this is a pretty short song and not anything that's usually focused on - but I love this one just the same and it gets a nostalgic factor to me to show the growing relationship between Belle and the Beast.

6.) Dreams to Dream - An American Tail: Fievel Goes West

M1ngmtvZl3E

You rarely see a villain moved to near tears by a song, this whole scene is absolutely beautiful and the animation is great to boot.

5.)  Soon You'll Come Home -  All Dogs Go to Heaven

A0EDP9Sf4kE

This is also a pretty beautiful song, in context of the movie and even as a soundtrack, her singing it off key like a child makes it all the more adorable and touching to me.

4.) Friends on the Other Side - The Princess and the Frog

S6yw2SmG674

Yes, I realize this is a fairly recent movie, but damn is this a catchy beat and the visuals give you a nostalgia trip. This film was pretty awesome by all means, but this had to be one of the many catchy songs from this movie.

3.)  Circle of Life  - The Lion King

vX07j9SDFcc

Like you people are surprised. Now, why is this at rank 3? Well, I saw two other songs more fitting than this although is certainly epic in it's own right. I love it, and it took me a while to figure out how to order these very ones. A classic in it's own right and memorable to boot.

2.)  The Bells of Notre Dame - Hunchback of Notre Dame

Tv4W0VkoUfM

One of Disney's darker films, this was a hard choice for me to choose in terms one of my favorite songs because this was one of my favorite movies. However, I decided the first song was a good one,  but I will say this has a solid soundtrack overall. The sequence between the puppet show and the story itself a wonderful feeling of mood whiplash.

"Now here is a riddle to guess if you can - sing the bells of Notre Dame - who is the monster and who is the man?" Indeed.

And finally, number one...

1.) The Prince of Egypt - Ofra Haza - Deliver Us (Hebrew)

TsVej9neGmQ

While a story about the Bible and it has a few liberties within the film itself - this an extremely good film, with a strong soundtrack, and gorgeously animated to boot. It's underrated but still a beautiful movie.

So what are your thoughts on this? Yes, it was unintentional for me to choose the opening songs, but in some ways I find it hilariously ironic on some levels. Many of these films are wonderful, do you have any other suggestions of animated songs to post on here? I realize this is very Disney Centric, but I've tried to give a fair amount to the other films too.

Feel free to add your own favorites, comment on my choices, and discuss!

It figures Disney would try to stereotype the Chinese people like that.  :hehe:

A simple song, pretty short, but it's a powerful scene from a pretty good movie no matter how you look at it. Melancholy, fitting with the entire movie.

Awww, that's so sad.  The poor fox

Now, here's Coraline:

Great movie.

I love how Disney seems to consistently have great songs :P.  Are we talking just movie animation, or regular cartoon animation?  If regular cartoons, then this is definitely on my list;

Stereotype the Chinese? Bro, they were stereotyping medieval warrior men as a whole. Because they were like that. So yeah.

I only said that 'cause I myself am half Chinese.  But I guess so.

Okay, here's Disney's Robin Hood - The Phony King Of England :

Oh, barely within time for the 60 day dredge rule. Can't fathom why I haven't seen this topic before...

Anyway, I'll think over it closely, and get back with some of my favorites tomorrow.

Okay, while I do agree with almost all of the choices made by Konchaski, I've also decided to add a few of my own favorites.

In no particular order, apart from the order in which I managed to dig them out of the infatomable mess that is my brain, comes these nuggets.

Hellfire - The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRO-M4XyAbM

One of my absolute favorite animated songs. It's got drama, edge, the visuals match perfectly, it all adds up into a great package. Judge Claude Frollo is one of Disney's best villains, and this song helped bring him there, trough showing us a side of Disney villains we normally don't see.

It could have been a bit longer though IMO, but that might probably just be because I like it so much. Oh, and without bias, I believe the Norwegian version is better than the English one. The voice actor of Frollo sounds a lot more powerfull and involved in that one.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight (Norwegian version) - Lion King

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP6ZQZMtlTg

Hehe, beyond the gritty shell, I do have some soft, squishy parts that enjoy songs like these in small doses. It's perhaps unnecesary to state why I like this song, since most others seem to as well. I will however retain, once again, that the Norwegian version is better. By far this time. The singer sounds... nasal in the English one.

In The Dark of the Night - Anastasia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1vDqgsbyhQ

I'll admit, I haven't even seen this movie. Still can't help but like this song. Really catchy and enjoyable, even if I can't really put my finger on what makes it so.

We Are One - Lion King 2

While the sequel to the original blockbuster lacked in many areas, I do retain that when it comes to soundtrack, this might be even better. Both "One of Us" and "My Lullaby" makes nice listening, but this one's perhaps the one I return to listen the most to.

I'm Still Here - Treasure Planet

Ah, from one of Disneys big flops. Got to confess, I liked the movie. Also liked this song, though, (dare I say it again?) I do prefer the Norwegian version.

Real Gone - Cars

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe7WqrjaZ8Q

Ah, I love this movie, and I love this song. The whole opening scene gives me the goosebumps every time.

The Plagues - Prince of Egypt

You reminded me of this one Konchaski when you included the other "Prince of Egypt" song on your list. This's got to be my favorite part of the sountrack. Really tense up the relationship of the two brothers who find themself on different sides in the conflict.

I might add more later. Stay tuned.
