10/04/10: J. Tyler Smith

First day of public entries. The purpose of my public entries is to allow the SF-O community to look into my general social life outside of the community.

The day started normal. Woke up at around 7:00. Left at 7:30 for school. Once arriving at school, I bought a breakfast burrito (which was actually quite appetizing) and ate. The whole day I tried unsuccessfully to read a book I had to get to chapter 11 for that day's assignment. Fortunately, it was not required to READ the whole book. Took some notes about Dynamics in physics as well as went over some Kinematics, which if my aviation career doesn't fly (ha, funny pun), then at least I can pursue a career in NASA orbital operations, which deals highly with Kinematics. Essentially, I can be a human calculator. In Pre-Calculus, which is proving more and more to be useful, I still failed to get the General Form equation of a line. It frustrated me how that worked until I actually wrote out how to do it, and made myself feel stupid. JROTC was simple. Do a presentation without plagiarizing. That I can do in my sleep. But it was funny because I mentioned that the focusing mirror of a space telescope uses infrared which has somewhat to do with heat, somebody decided to call it the Death Ray which made the class burst out laughing. We called the actually picture taking assembly the Death Ray from that point on. In English we had a free draw/write day. I attempted to draw a representation of human conflict. It's a conflict of Religion/Patriotism, War, Art, Knowledge, Self, and Society. To be entirely honest, people everyday conflict over one of these in their minds. Mine is a self and society/war and knowledge one. Which brings me to my final point of contention: My career. Recently I said I wanted to be an aviator, of course really I want to be an aeronautics engineer. This will work great with the military and NASA and propel me to a great career with lots of money and in turn help the world by making technological advancements. But, I have a love interest in a person at school who is a good friend of mine. Her name is Megan Isabelle, and feel like this would be the person I would spend my whole life with. Her kindness and sense of family that I never really had has sort of leaked into me. Now I also have a thought of starting a family and living a subtle life. But this is where I must make a choice or a new solution. Pursue a great and adventurous career which will help the world, or continue your prestige through family and be a civil engineer without too much travel. Or, I could have the career I want and not have to travel so much (except maybe into space. Megan and I have always wanted to do that). Another problem is that we haven't even gone out together once due to her crazy schedule, so I haven't had much of a chance to prove myself.

In other words, my future is undecided yet locked into place. I guess its like a train track. You've got a switch to change your destination and a set of supplies to make a new set of a tracks. Can you make that decision before making it to the final destination?

Things seem to be clickng into place. The reservations (boundries) between Megan an I are starting to dissolve and reform into strong bonds, ones that I know will last a lifetime. It seems as though heaven's light may be shown upon me as the year gets better. The high school football team is 5-0 undefeated and may go to states, which is awesome and a first timer. Im also starting to do well in all my advanced classes.

On the lowerside, Megan cant go to the homecoming or prom dances. She said she'd go with me if she could, but is going two weddings (she has a HUGE family). It's a little sad but enlightening. She even said she was honored by my asking her. This makes me feel great on the inside because Ive learned to trust her word to the letter.

Primarily, this entry is about personal relationships, but its whats been happening.
