Favorite "Dead" Franchises

What's your favorite video game series that is no longer getting any new titles, simply because it's run it's course or because it's developer went out of business.

My favorite 'dead' video game series would have to be the Rogue Squadron series. I'm a sucker for flying games, and that one was just flat out fun to play.

When Factor 5 went under, there was a legal dispute over the game, and I think the series may have been finished because of it. Though you never know, LucasArts had a hand in it's development, so maybe they own the rights or something, maybe Rogue Squadron will come back?

Sin.

If you get the chance, play Sin Episode 1. You can still get it on steam for cheap.

It's an awesome game that games harder to stop you relying on certain tricks. Eg. Rely on headshots and the guys will start wearing hats. Use grenades alot and they will run around more ect. It's such a detailed game chock full of jokes, interactive stuff, and easter eggs. It bombed at the time because it came out the same day as the (imo much worse) Half Life Episode 1. Things went so bad most of the team left, and when there was only a few original guys left a casual gaming company bought the company and the rights to Sin. As such the chance of seeing ep2 is almost 0.

Freedom Fighters and Republic Commando. Both great action games, both leave you hanging for a sequal that was made just because.

Lastly. Parasite Eve. I only played 2, but it was great. Also one of the few good game Square made. Unfortunatly they never made another because they wanted to milk the Final Fantasy cow for ever and ever. Im told there is a new one coming to PSP though.

Guest Para Astaroth

Star Wars Battlefront series (Yes, it's dead since the original creators in development of Battlefront 3 just dropped the project altogether, so no Battlefront 3.)

F-Zero

Condemned series (I forgot when the second one was made, but gosh it's been forever!)

Conker series

Ultraman Fighting Evolution series (Rebirth has to be my most favorite even though there were only a handfull of Ultramen and enemies you could pick from.)

i did like multiplay because it was laggy on my old computer, and everyone used only ONE type of unit, ONE to kill you! there is a reason there are differnet units to use you know! Also, it would be the begining of the gmae, and all i find are that the enemy players are building turrets right outside of my base, and that sometimes they attack you with one unit 30 seconds into the game! i mean come the freak on! give me a chance to build my %$#@ing base!!

But yes, it was an awsome game! id play right now if it wasnt broken....

Oh, I loved C&C Generals.

Also I liked to play Tomba. If you don't know what that is, look it up.

The AKI wrestling games

No Mercy, WrestleMania 2000, WCW/NWO Revenge...

So good!

Too bad the companies involved don't all work together anymore    :x

(This will probably start a argument or debate but what the hell)

The Pokemon games. In my mind it died after emerald: it became too damn confusing to get all the Pokemon, the graphics didn't really get any better, the storylines just started to suffer, and it lost the Pokemon games feel.

I'd say Duke Nukem, but it looks like they may be finally putting out the latest game.

So, fingers-crossed

Doubt Star Fox is done - The creator said that the Wii is an ideal candidate for a game, so we may see it in the near future. I wouldn't consider it a dead franchise until the final game in the series comes out.  in my opinion, Swat Kats was a franchise that met a premature death.  it was mostly a cartoon, I know. however it did have two video games. both were on the SNES, I think. not sure because I never played them.

Ristar was good (but I never made it past that singing bird boss) but how was it a franchise?  O_o
