Milkyway64
Hello ladies and babies, this is Milkyway64 alerting you guys, yes you, about an impressive non-profit project going on courtesy of DoctorM64. Behold!Yes, it's basically Zero Mission 2, but with bells and whistles GBA hardware won't allow. This is not a romhack, it's a fangame with it's own engine, which surprisingly doesn't feel clunky or slow at all. As a matter of fact, it's got my favorite "feel" of all 2D Metroids to date. Have a features/physics demonstration. Aside from what is shown, we also have splash damage implemented. Missiles don't HAVE to necessarily directly hit to do damage, and bombs have a radius matching their sprite now too. How do I know all this? Because there is a small tech demo out called Metroid Confrontation, which is it's own short game wherein you explore a small map with 25 items hidden around hunting Kraid, Ridley, and Crocomire in order to escape. For those of you (like me) that don't like demos because they feel like only a fragment of a game, this is wonderful. Pick it up here.Oh yes, while you're on that page, notice that the last update was two days ago. That's the best part of this project, It's not dead. For that matter, it's almost done. The good Doctor mentioned that assuming his real life was forgiving on him, it'd see a release this year.
King of the Shrooms
considering how little of this year is left, we may have it very soonalso it looks pretty sweet.
Star Fox Runner
I've been looking at this on and off for the past year, and it seems pretty decent.
Robert Monroe
Considering Metroid II is my favorite 2D Metroid, this is sweet, sweet music to my ears. We finally get to see SR-388 as it was hinted at in Fusion.
Sabre
Interesting. Making any game is hard so well done them. I would have prefered something new, but whatever.I am really interested in Streets of Rage Remake, which isn't a remake as such as a new game with everything from the first 3 plus deleted content plus a couple of the things. However, it's been on the verge of coming out for a year or so now.
Milkyway64
This is actually supposed to be something like that. It's supposed to add more to it (obvious powerups and new areas) while revamping the old. It's more of a "reimagining" than a remake, evident by the new powerups making things a little less linear and the redesigns of the metroid bosses (Omegas are now apparently grounded behemoths rather than just stronger Alphas with a projectile)I have high hopes for this thing, and if the demo is anything to go by it shouldn't be bad musically either. :P
Milkyway64
AH'M BUMPIN' THIS.So it's ever closer to completion and word of post-game bonuses have gotten out. Firstly, while we've had no announcement on it's completion percentage wise, it's been reported that the entire game world is done and thoroughly tested to ensure every tile acts as it should, so at the very least the tedius tiling is out of the way. Presumably, all that's left is some boss programming and maybe some sound work.Secondly, DoctorM64 (project leader) said that while he wants to get this out before 2011, he will continue working on it beyond then. We can expect at least one update post-release, which will fix any bugs that slipped past testing and add new content, not the least of which being "Challenge" mode, which will be unlocked after beating the game. Not to be confused with Hard Mode, Challenge Mode offers a new way to play in removing Metroid 2's relative linearity in favor of a more traditional Metroid style. Ergo, the lava keeping you contained to one area until all the metroids are destroyed will be gone from the beginning, and items/metroids will be rearranged around the map. This will mean that to beat the game, you'll have to be all over the place, collecting items and backtracking in order to track all the metroids down. Beating Challenge mode will unlock a boss rush, but how this will be handled is unclear.Oh yeah, there's also word that the game will feature mod support. Just- wat.
