Call of Duty is overrated.. From #4 and on, it's basically been the same exact game, except maybe shiner new graphics and some different modes and maps, etc. In the end, it boils down to being the same exact type of game.

Tf2 is kinda based off of Half-life 2's Game engine, But is extremely different from it. And unlike Cod (which i also agree is over-rated) The Game is much more Balanced in class's and alot less Rage-quits and grenade spam.

Though I still don't see it as the best game of all time...

Fun Fact- CoD runs on Doom 3 engine. Half Life 1 ran on Quake engine. Both ID engines. Therefor game of the decade is Quake 4. ...I guess not, but I like it.

Ultimatly, this CoD debate has gotten pointless. Ignoring the fact people are still playing CoD 4 and 2, just because a new one comes out doesn't mean it's crap. After all, to turn that argument around TF2 is crap because it's a sequal right? The argument has gotten to the point where TF2 fanboys are just QQing because, to use their words "they are butthurt".

I know HL2 is still popular, and even HL1 is. Call of Duty 2, you say? I hear of it a alot. It still has lots of servers.

Battlefield 2, 2005, still being played by 500+ gamers at once. I figure HL2 has that much still, too. But like Battlefield 2, HL2 is rapidly disintegrating. They both are.

Just so you know, I love Valve. Portal, Half-Life, everything, all great games, and great sequels, too. But really, CoD would get my pick over Half-Life or Portal. Portal has no multiplayer. Half-Life is too....fraggy, if you will. CoD is refined, and has a great engine it is built off of. All Valve games seem to use the same engine, too, and hey, nothing wrong with that, they're all changed to where you can hardly notice. But you can notice, that's the problem. CoD has no...engine, that they use and use and use, and you can always tell you're using the same engine, it's not like that. Sure, there's an engine, but you don't notice.

But anyway, that's not really on the topic we were on, is it...

Team Fortress 2 will not be remembered hardly, in 6 years. It's just another game that is "super awesome" and "genre defining" that will be forgotten. Not "forgotten" in the sense of people not remembering such a game, but just...not being played much at all. Maybe 1-7 active servers. That's it.

But have your fun! While it lasts. ;)

TF2 is probably a great game, my point is only to show you it doesn't deserve GOTD and that it isn't this sacred game like Goldeneye 007 or Ocarina of Time.

As I said in one of my other posts here, Indiana Jones for N64 is a very rare game. Get yourself a copy and you'll be spending $30 on it. Used, even. No one hardly knew it existed in 2000, no one hardly knows it exists now. Except the people who own it, and think of it as a masterpiece, because, well, it is.

But some people don't understand how I could think it's a masterpiece. Just like I don't understand why TF2 deserves GOTD. I may just be stuck in my own point of view.

It's that kind of thing when you know it deserves so much more than it gets, but there's no way to make it happen.

If we are going to pull the little known gem card, (and make sure you account for nostalgia in your pick) then I go for my triple threat super star tag team of Dino Crisis 2, Parasite Eve 2 and Freedom Fighters. All ajusted for nostalgia.

That made..no sense. :?

I wasn't saying they would be "little known" for my own point, I was arguing with what they were arguing about above. ;) I may have trailed off a little, but whatever..

Freedom Fighters and Dino Crisis 2 are awesome games, though. :)

Let's get something straight here. I am not doubting CoD's greatness. Its a hella lot better than Medal of Honor for the most part and is one of the defining War shooters. But you all are seriously downplaying the impact TF2 has had on the gamin scene. What does it have to remember? Each of the 9 classes are original, unique, and well designed, it has the most banally hilarious backstory I've read in a while for anything, the art style is crisp and instantly identifiable, the hats, love them or hate them, are also memorable (and on that note crafting isn't complicated, you put items in, get metal out, put metal in, get items out. not rocket science.), and it has had plenty of great maps that are here to stay with game modes like Payload. If TF2 was going to be forgotten, it would have begun its decline by now. Instead, TF2 has more players now than it has ever had before. Its -growing-. Sure, in 5 years itll slow down a whole lot, but in 5 years I doubt people will be talking about any singular CoD game either much (except for of course the newest one thats out).

And for the record, TF2 updates its game balance all the time (sometimes for worse than better), and doesn't need an entirely new 60 dollar installment to get them. Nay, you get them for -free-.

and I'm not even going to get into how Half-Life could be more fraggy than CoD, when HL is game series based on adventuring and using a gun that shoots gravity and CoD gives you goddamn nukes for killstreaks

@Last part of last post, I was referring to multiplayer. Too...jumpy, fast, and...fraggy. :P

I kind of see your point now, and I hope TF2 will still be talked about and played in 5 years, but still, I think COD MW2 will be more memorable than TF2. Just how it is, like it or not..

And if I ever get $20 bucks to waste, I really want to get Team Fortress 2. I'm sure I'd enjoy it.

In that case this is where we hit the issue of lasting impact, originality, ect. I should point out I'm a fan of 'well exicuted'. TF2, while well exicuted, hasn't really done anything different. In terms of lasting influence then Dystopia has more going on then TF2. As for being memorable, we will have to wait, but as I said before, MW2 is known even by non gamers, whereas TF2 is known only to those who are into it.

As someone outside of TF2 it seems desperate. It's as if it's throwing up crap in an effort to keep people playing. That's not unique to TF2 of course. L4D2 mutators which are litterally a few console command also seem this way as well. I just hope this doesn't happen to Dota 2.

Now, let's take counter strike. That, like TF2, has declined, but people are still playing it. Starcraft lasted for over a decade. Dystopia, CoD4, even Doom has declined but keeps it's die hard fanbase. (yes, people are still playing doom online)

MW2 will be more memorable only in that its more casual (which is weird considering the entire "TF2 is for casuals" joke), but I digress. On the PC gaming scene, TF2 will be a landmark to remember. Outside the PC scene, probably not so much.

TF2 is unique in a few ways: it totally lacks the oh-so-hated "assault" class (you know, armed with a combat rifle and is able to snipe, support, ect), and is built around team synergy more than most FPS games (lone wolves don't last in TF2). As for being desperate, thats moreso the fandom than Valve, whch takes ideas from them. Every major update goes in a different direction, because there is a degree of experimenting going on. However, the core gameplay is unchanged: the biggest gameplay change before the "boss fight" Halloween-restricted map was like, Arena mode. Everything else (hats, crafting, trading) does not change gameplay. The class updates also do not change gameplay, but rather provides more options. Before his update, Engineer was stuck to turtling and was easily outclassed on offensive gameplay modes. After his update, he has a wide variety of new options to choose from and change how he tackles situations, and that is the true beauty of TF2 for me: the flexibility. Behind all the silly hats, trading and crafting, the gameplay stays strong with versatile and balanced options (except for the Huntsman screw that POS weapon).

I agree with that point there.

I shall definitely get into purchasing a copy of TF2 once I get a better computer.  All I have is the console version you get with the Orange Box, and it kinda sucks because you HAVE to play online in order to play it at all.  The only thing you can do by yourself is the training mode thing...but then again, the same thing could go for the PC version.  Idk, I hardly know a damn thing about the TF games. :/

Before I do buy the game, I'd like to know something.  Does TF2 support PC controllers and/or the Xbox 360 controller?

It does, but Keyboard+Mouse will do you better in the long run.

Any FPS is better with a keyboard and mouse...

Key word: long run. You'll eventually adapt your fingers and the sensitivity boost from the mouse is far better than dual sticks.

The thing is, I don't like using a mouse and keyboard to play video games.  I always use a controller any time I get the chance to.  And besides, that merely an opinion, long run or not.

And I'll say it again...

*hates having big fingers*

I push the key that next to the one I want to push quite often.  Anyone that talks to me on msn would know that, since I post typos a lot. :/
