I use Windows or Linux. So what do you guys use? Just a thought. I kinda prefer Windows cause it isn't as complicated to do things.

Windows 7, Dual Booted with Winows Linux. I also then have VMware Machines that run testing operating systems that range from Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Vista, Ubuntu 10, Linux Mint 9, and my laptop also runs dual booted Windows 7/Linux Mint. I also forgot the VM machine that I used to Simulate Networks with Routers, switches and all the gateway protocols.

Campus internet speed:

Pretty much 30Gbits/second. Not Gigabyte, but Gigabits (Trust me there is a difference)

The Operating System I use is Windows 7 Home Premium (which came with my Compaq), with my desktop all the way home in Washington using Windows XP. There are things I like about both.

I like computers that are Apple based. I'm using a iMac and I'm thinking of getting a macbook pro for portable reasons.

I use a Mac but I'll be getting a new one soon and I'll install Windows 7 on it using Boot Camp so I can run both operating systems on it.

Games and Other Software tie me to Windows, but I'd prefer to use Linux if I didn't have to give up so much.

Specs:

Network:

Internet Connection: TWC 7Mbit-down Cable

Modem: Some TWC Ubee piece of crap

Gateway: Linksys WRT54G2V1

Misc: Linksys 5-port switch (so I only have to run 1 long-ass cat5 cable.) Whoever put the cable TV drops in my apartment was a moron. The one in the bedroom (the one the modem is using) is in a spot where you can't fit a computer desk, OR see a TV from the bed (unless you block the bathroom door with it. So, I need to run cables to my computers on the opposite side of the room). Luckily, I already had the switch so I didn't have to purchase it just for this. I guess the bright side to that dumbass cable drop is that I can put my wireless gateway practically in the middle of my apartment, meaning great signal in all corners.

ARWING (general-purpose computer):

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 710 Triple-Core

Memory: 6GB DDR2

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H

Graphics: AMD ATI Radeon 5830HD

Storage: 1 TB Storage across 2 drives, 5 partitions

Optical: 1 CD/DVD burner, 1 CD Burner

Display: Samsung SyncMaster 226cw

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Peripherals: Logitech G15 (New version) keyboard, Razer Lachesis mouse, Logitech desktop speakers

GREATFOX (Music Production Box):

CPU: AMD Phenom Black Quad Core (model escapes me...)

Memory: 4GB DDR 2

Motherboard: Mid-range ASUS board, model escapes me

Graphics: Low-end vidcard, this machine does not do 3D stuff.

Storage: 1.5 TB across 2 drives, 3 partitions

Optical: 1 CD/DVD Burner

Display: ASUS VE205

OS: Windows XP (32-bit :( )

Sound: M-Audio Delta 1010LT Audio Production Interface

Peripherals: Logitech G15 (Old Version) keyboard, M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 MIDI Controller, Yamaha MG 16/4 Mixer, 2x KRK Rokit 5 Studio Monitors, Lexicon MX200 Audio FX Processor

Music Production Software: Cubase SL3, Kontakt 2, Kontakt 4, EWQLSO Gold Pro XP Kontakt Version, Garritian Personal Orchestra, Garritan Jazz/Big Band, Garritan Concert/Marchign Band, Garritan Authorized Steinway Pro, Virtual Drumline II, WaveLab Studio

Wolfen III (Laptop):

CPU: Intel Core i7 720QM Quad Core

Memory: 4GB DDR3

Motherboard: Dell Studio XPS 1645 Motherboard

Graphics: AMD ATI Mobility Radeon (model escapes me...)

Storage: 500 GB across 2 partitions

Optical: 1 slot-load CD/DVD burner

Display: 17" Widescreed LCD

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)

Peripherals: Backlit keyboard, Razer Lachesis Mouse, Bluetooth Radio, Wireless Card, Multi-format Flash Card reader

In case you can't tell, I'm a bit of a technophile. :P

If I had the money, I'd get GREATFOX rolling two six-core Opterons (AMD's Server CPUs) with 24 gigs of RAM (12 per CPU) and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 along with Cubase 5 and a plethora or new sample libraries. And some new, higher-end, studio monitors (and a couple of 1 TB HDDs to hold all of that, sample libraries can get into the hundreds of gigs). Since all the new music software is designed to run in multicore/multiCPU environments, I'd never run into a CPU or RAM ceiling again! Hardware alone on that upgrade would probably cost me $5000. I don't have $5000 laying around, sadly.

At the moment I'm just using my MAC, which I got this year. My 7 year old PC is in desperate need of an up-grade.
