This came up as a joke on a podcast, but it got me thinking.

For clarity I will use Mother and Uncle as the people and Vegan, though it can be any similar thing such as Dad, Vegitarian or Relgious restriction, or a Friend ect. Basicly a pairent, and not pairent, an ideolagy and something against that idiolagy a kid wants. Anyway, the dilema goes like this.

Mother is a vegan.

Kid doesn't care about/doesn't want to be a vegan.

Mother wants kid to be a vegan.

Mother raises kid in a no meat household and limits his exposure to such things.

When Uncle babysits, he let's the kid have burgers and hotdogs as long as he doesn't tell Mother.

During the podcast it was played for laughs, and implied (at least it seemed to) that the mother was in the right. I disagree. I believe that unless it's harmful or dangerous, that the kid should be allowed to eat meat and milk until he his old enough to make his own decision. To paraphrase a comedien (the original was religion based, but it still stands with this example)

"A kid is not defined by their pairents beliefs. A child is no more a vegan then he is a member of the postal workers union."

The uncle, for the same reasons as you've written yourself Sabre.

Neither IMO. The mother is wrong in the way that she is forcing a diet that lacks the things we require to function daily upon a child who is not yet fully grown, and needs all the nutrients he can get. Also she's interfering with freedom of choice.

The uncle is also wrong because, of all the things he could let this young boy eat, it had to be burgers and hot dogs. A healthier option is available.

And btw, I was so ready to vote for something regarding bacon.
