Star Fox 2D *Update 7/7*

whats up guys! I haven't been on in a while.

First of all, happy holidays!

Second, I have a new fan game for you for Christmas

I was messing around and decided to make a star fox arcade type game. Its not finished yet, but here's a (really crappy) video of it. (don't worry, my recording program is bad. It's not jerky at all in the game)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEK_MBUDNgY

Kinda cheesy game, but hopefully when I get a download link up it will provide some entertainment.

I'm gonna redo the sprites at some point. I just wanted to get the gameplay up and running before I redid them.

*Demo Update 1/19*

Ok, so here is the link to download a quick demo of SF2D (it is 11.7 MB). Please keep in mind that this is a tech demo ONLY! the sprites and look of the game will most likely be completely revamped, so I just want to know how it plays so far (and if there are any errors so far.)

You will have to give it a little while for it to load (one of the explosion effects I'm using needs to be replaced because it is too big) so be patient with the load time for now.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to work on it much in the last couple of days because my extended family just came over for the holidays  :(  Hopefully I'll be able to work on it some more soon though (should be able to start up again on sunday or monday)  On the bright side, I almost have a working demo to put up for you guys to test! Also, if anybody is any good at making 2d sprites, I need someone to make the sprites for the game (seeing as I absolutely suck at making sprites)  The ones I have now are just temporary ones I found on the internet.

It looks good and interesting but I noticed he got shot once and lost more then half his health. Is this going to be an issue in the harder levels?

Is there somewhere I can play it?!!

Not yet. I'll hopefully be getting a one level demo up sometime next week.

That was when i got shot by turrets, right? I haven't configured all the damage amounts yet, so it should be fixed for the actual game

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry I haven't gotten anything done in a while (school got kind of hectic; what with taking calc 3 and differential equations in the same semester), but I'm gonna get working on it again soon!

And Game Maker / 1945 stikes again!!!

Looks good though, I remember way back when I was trying to make a 2D Game Maker version of Starfox, but it wasn't anywhere near as complex as yours...

But I changed tack and went for this instead...

attachment.php?attachmentid=4752&d=12386

BTW, If anyone wants the limited source code for this demo, you're free to have it; I doubt I'll ever get it finished. just send me a PM. (You will however need advanced game maker 7 or higher

yup haha started with 1945 as the model, but built this one from scratch. I would possibly like the code to yours, but I cant see the video/pic.

Is this going to have a lock-on laser charge? That'd be cool. Bombs? Great idea so far, and I can't download the demo atm, but it looks good.

Eventually I hope to put all those in, but for now all there are are brakes and regular lazers haha.  Any more suggestions anyone cares to give will be helpful too! so keep em coming!

very nice  :D

did you use the isometric demo game as a model for that?

No, it's actually a fully 3D environment, it started with one of the light test demos but virtually everything from that is gone, and the rest is made up from scratch.

Sweet! actually I would like to have the source for it if you still have it.

On another note, here is the finished level selection menu:

and here's a little video of what's in it so far (Not much yet, but I have the lylat selection menu done, and am now working on each level)

(and sorry, I got sidetracked in the middle of the video cause I found a few errors )

lol at the StarFox 2D formation XD

It looks good, particularly those capital ships, but I think you need to have more enemy types, including ones that come in from the side or something, and you also need to have a boss of some sort, though I assume that you've already thought of that XD.

I'd like to suggest, though it will be a lot more programming, that some levels are side-scrolling, just something a bit different.

Keep it up, there's nothing to stop this being a great game.

BTW, yeah I made the sprite, feel free to use it if you wish, and let me know if you'd like any more XD
