DZComposer
We've got a good number of people now for a fair, no bye, bracket. We'd need 8 more to both expand and eliminate byes. I doubt we'll get 8 more people. Some rule proposals:Each match will have a different topic for fairness. That way people not currently competing can 't look at the arguments before they get to go. This also allows for simultaneous running of debates.Match ends when either one participant quits or if one of the participant's arguments gets repetitive.I think we should use a points system instead of deciding the winner on who posted last. IE, new sound argument (A repeat of a previous argument does not gain points) = +5 points, successful rebuttal (sound argument that defeats another argument) = +7 points, Valid argument that is not sound = 0 points, Informal fallacy committed = -5 points, Formal fallacy committed = -7 points, Quit/Withdraw/Surrender = Forfeit Match, descend into flames or Godwin's Law = Forfeit Match. Winner is one who has more points.

This also allows for simultaneous running of debates.Match ends when either one participant quits or if one of the participant's arguments gets repetitive.Different topics is a great idea. As for the match ending, I think a time limit of some sort might be in order. Perhaps the participants could decide on a time limit themselves or something. I just figure a set time limit might help actually get things done, as well as motivate participants to really put some effort into their posts.I think we should use a points system instead of deciding the winner on who posted last. Sabre
I like to watch this.Wheres Sabre when you need him, he always talking about logic.I arrive. Even so, the entrance is closed, and if it wasn't I wouldn't join anyway. With my current popularity I could have a well researched and put together argument, and my opponant could could counter with "lol, whatev's" and I'd still 'lose', so no thanks. Nah, since you were gone, I'm sure we could try and get you in somewhere. And we're not petty here, this is a tournament. Bias has no place, whether people are happy with you or not. Actually, having one more person would put us at 10, which is pretty workable. If you really don't want to be a part of it, okay, but I think you should join. Mostly because I'd love the chance to have a structured debate with you :P
DZComposer
10 wouldn't eliminate byes, though (second round would have 5 people). Maybe we could come up with some kind of 3-2-1 match where one match would start with three people, the bottom one is dropped, and a second match between the top two determines who goes to the next round. Xortberg
Sounds quite reasonable. Of course, this depends on if Sabre changes his mind, which I really hope he does.
Thu'um
Well, we need to cut the numbers off some time...
Sylum
Wait...should I be a participant or management since i'm staff? I'd still like to be in it if it's ok but if bossman wants me out, I understand.
Xortberg
Well, if you go management then we have an even 8 participants, but I'd feel bad about straight up kicking you out for convenience's sake. We can work around having 9 participants without too much hassle, so I suppose the choice is up to you.
Fluxy
I know my way around a debate or two no problem, I don't mind being management so Sylum can participate. Eight way is a lot easier to make a format for a tournament rather than nine.
Sylum
If we can get one more, we'll be fine. If we dont get one by closing, ill drop.
ballisticwaffles
a quick question, what would we debate?
The Shaper
a quick question, what would we debate? That's the thing about debate, you don't have a choice on what your debating.
Fluxy
a quick question, what would we debate?I imagine either a voted upon topic, or something of Xort's choosing.
Xortberg
I think the best solution would be to have either the judges choose beforehand or have the contestants agree on a subject. Personally, I like the idea of the judges handing out the topics. Gives less time to both sides for planning ahead, and forces a more even playing field. Sarita
If there's no further interest, wanna stop sign ups tomorrow (Friday)? That way we can decide on rules and procedures, and get this thing underway.
Xortberg
I was just considering when to close signups, so I suppose tomorrow's as good a day as any. Last day of the year, last day to sign up. Sounds good.
Xortberg
Aaaaand no more signups. Looks like Sylum will move to management and work on the setup and rules will begin as soon as the management team can be arsed to do so.
