ThePointingMan
Anyone ever have this, My computer, when I turned it on it was like, boot failed, something something interupted, then I turned it off and tried again, only this time, although my comp turned on... nothing happened. Is this a hardware failure or what?
rebel_gunman
That has happened to me in this very laptop.I just let it rest for a couple of days and it was as good as new. I think is for not turning it off for about 2 weeks in a row... properly I really don't know what happened. I'm no computer genius...
ThePointingMan
Aaa yes, I love it when things do that, just kinda fix 'emselves. Sure hope mine does that, tends to happen with a lot of my stuff. Also Thanks, kinda settling on the nerves, even if it doesn't happen, knowing that it could. rebel_gunman
All I did was go through proper shut down procedures... after my laptop restarted on safe mode.I let the poor thing rest for a couple of days.It still does it every once in a while... but only if I over work it. Like not a proper shut down in a month.
Steve
Did the BIOS finish loading? Did you get an Operating system boot failure?
ThePointingMan
Eh, nothing goes on screen, doesn't even make it to the screen where it would say boot failure... I checked the monitor and it works with other computers.
Steve
If the bios is not loading completely , it's a hardware failure most likely. So what, you turn it on, and then it goes off?

DZComposer
Is this a desktop or a laptop? Make/Model? If custom-built, make/model of motherboard? Do you get any beeps, or is it just silence? Do the fans turn on? If you know how to tell, are the Hard Drives spinning up? If it is a Dell desktop, there should be some lights on the back labeled A, B, C, and D (and maybe E, don't remember, they may even be numbers, 1-4/5). Which ones are on, what color, and are any flashing? Is the Power LED normal color or a different color?I'm thinking Power Supply, Motherboard, Memory, or Video Card. ThePointingMan
Not a laptop, ASUS P5N-D Motherboard, can't currently locate the Cpu's box, but it was an intel. Just silence(no beeps), the fans do go on, as well as the light at the front, but once on, I can't turn it off. I can see through the fan holes that the power supply has a green light on, but I think it always had that. the power light is the same color as normal. Something I just learned right now, apparently while I was at work, there was a very bad smell, and my sister thought it was her computer and was trying to cool it down, I guess it was mine, if I try and turn my computer the smell is... smellable again (mebbe my cpu burnt out?). As I recall, my computer was on when I left for work, but when I returned it was off, and wouldn't turn on anymore. Luckily, my computer is fairly new, so it's all under warranty. DZComposer
Since you get no beeps, that means no POST. Add the smell, and, yeah, not good. Likely had a capacitor burst (burning electrolyte causes one hell of bad a smell). I'd say it is likely the mobo is toast. Don't know if the CPU is savable, but since you have a warranty, let them handle it. (Unless it is a custom job, in which case you'll want to take off the heatsink and inspect the CPU, burning would be visible on the pin-side of the die, and likely on the socket on the mobo as well)

DZComposer
Defective capacitor. 10 years ago there was a serious problem with defective capacitors. It was called the Great Capacitor Plague. Not nearly as many these days, but usually the cause of failed motherboards when a smell is involved. That's not the only thing it could be, just the most likely. Inspect the board to be sure. A burst capacitor will be obvious. It will be the swollen one with goo leaking out of it.Actually, inspect EVERYTHING connected to the motherboard as well. Make sure your CPU looks OK, and your RAM looks OK. Also, check your video card and any other add-on cards. Better to know you need a new CPU now than to find out when you assemble the machine with the replacement mobo. Still not guaranteed not to happen i nothing looks burned, but don't wait until reassembly to inspect everything. If the CPU is dead and there are no burst capacitors, and the only burned spot on the mobo is the CPU socket, then suspect the CPU as the cause. If all fans were working, and nothing is overclocked, there is no reason your CPU should overheat. CPU should be warrantied as well. Check your warranty docs to see about down-chain damage. If you can get the failed component's warranty to cover other damaged parts, that's great.

ThePointingMan
K now that I'm back from work, I've had a closer look, so nothing seems burnt, no gel is leaking from some capacitor. I took some pictures and I could upload those, really, nothing looks wrong, neither me nor my dad found any visible things that could be wrong.I'm gonna try taking everything out dusting it off with canned air and putting it back in. YJH1995
did you flashed your BIOS Blank? If you do you might need to take it to the Computer shop and reflash it.
ThePointingMan
I dunno how to flash my bios blank, so I'm assuming I didn't do that. Reading up aboot it, apparently reseting the CMOS has worked for people with the same issue as I'm having. I dunno what a CMOS is, but imma research it, and try and reset it. ThePointingMan
Yeah, i do the hold power button thing, but still, every time I'd have to do that... I'd like to be able to shut my computer down normally, also there is a grey square in the middle of the screen, if my mouse hovers over it, it changes to the loading cursor.Derp... scanned something, I have one hundred and thirty nine system related errors, as well as 77 user related errors.
