Guidelines for the RP Character board *Updated. Please read.*

Asper Sarnoff

Recommended Posts

As to avoid drowning this board in threads, from now on, character threads are limited to one per member, and the threads within are the exception to the 2-month dredging rule.

Members having multiple character threads will have them merged together to form a single thread. Be warned that this might make the thread somewhat unstructured, and that you might want to edit it yourself afterwards.

Guest Mr. Mario

and the threads within are the exception to the 2-month dredging rule.

So...even if 2 months since my last character or post was made in my topic, if I posted a new character in my topic, is it still against the rules to dredge a old topic?

Nope, He said that posting in your own topic is the exception to the two month for dredging rule. So it is not dredging.

Correct. You can only have one character thread in here, and can dredge it as much as you want.

Ok. Good thing I won't have to worry about this factor from now on...

In a bout of unwarranted self importance, I will be putting my character template here for anyone who gives a damn.

Name: (given name, nicknames, adopted alias, ect)

Age: (their physical and if needed, apparent age)

Race: (if anthro, specify which animal. if human, specify their skin or racial look, and so on)

Origin: (where they're from, the more specific the better (IE "Barcelona, Spain, Earth" instead of just "Earth")

Home: (where they live now)

Sex: (male/female/asexual/hermaphrodite/other)

Height: (how tall they are. for human standards, average male is about 5'8")

Weight: (how heavy they are. REMEMBER MUSCLES ARE HEAVY, a high weight does not mean "fat"!)

Build: (their body shape. is your 220 pound man macho or blubber?)

Eyes: (coloration, oddities, ect)

Hair: (color, style, beards. for anthro include fur patterns)

Family: (spouses, children, parents, siblings, ect of importance)

Alignment: (DnD standard, to get a grasp of your character, good/lawful/chaotic/evil/neutral)

Personality: (a glance look at their largest personality traits. I usually pick 6 or 8)

Background: (who they are and where did they come from)

Abilities: (any skills they may have learned over their lifetimes, from cooking to math to sword fighting to art)

There have been a few copyright issues lately regarding character images, so here are some rules to follow when posting images to represent your character or any items/vehicles your character uses.

This is different than just posting fanart because you are assigning images to your characters, and certain posts can be seen as IP theft.

Character Artwork

- External credit for art must be given to the artist if the signature is illegible or missing. Though it is best to include said credits even if the signature is visible.

- Do not embed or attach an image marked "do not distribute".

- Do not remove the artist's signature/mark.

- Do not post an edited work unless you have permission from the artist to edit it.

- Do not use someone else's character design as yours unless you have permission to.

We have a few artists here at SFO. One of them may be willing to draw your character.

Items/Vehicles

- External credit for art must be given to the artist if the signature is illegible or missing. Though it is best to include said credits even if the signature is visible.

- Do not remove the artist's signature/mark.

- Generic item/vehicle images are fine, but do not edit them without artist permission. IE, if your character always carries an AK-47, it is fine to depict one, but don't edit the image and give credit.

- Do not use someone else's original design for an item or vehicle as your own without permission.

Any artist that contacts SFO staff concerning removal of their artwork will have their request honored.

This is for legal reasons, so it is non-negotiable.

After a quick look around peoples character threads, I found plenty of entries violating these guidelines. Get your act together people. I'll look thoroughly trough the whole subforum in a couple days time, and confront violators. Don't fear, it won't be harsh, but it WILL happen.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get to placing the artist's names, and for those I can't properly address, just removing the pictures. Thanks for the reminder though, Asper. I almost forgot about that, to be honest. I'll go ahead and get on it.
