DZComposer
SFO is going to move to a VPS sometime within the next 24 hours. I don't really want to do it now, but site usability is a must-have and procwatch has been all over the forum today.Things to note:1. I do not know how long any downtime will be.2. In Sept. the main hosting contract comes up for renewal. This will likely increase this cost, which is currently going to be ~$300. It will likely be significantly more after VPS. A donation system may need to be set up. DreamHost has a built-in donation system where donations go straight to the account donated to. This isn't happening for sure yet, but it is possible. If it is needed, some kind of donor perks will be given, like a special badge or something (any perks will only be cosmetic, I will NEVER paywall board access or anything like that).Hopefully, after I graduate at the end of the year, my financial situation will improve and these donation things will not need to be permanent.Unless you guys eagerly want to help SFO out financially. CrypticQuery
Gotcha, but I want to thank you, DZ, for supporting this site out of your own pocket. You've given all of us the key to more or less live :)
DZComposer
And to think, some people out there think I don't really care about this community. I care enough to move money around in January, which is my worst month, financially due to loss of a pay period due to my workplace being closed for the Holidays, to keep the place usable.Anyway, the VPS has been requested. This should also make the Wiki more stable as well.
TheRedFox8
Looking forward to it.I might seriously consider donating. How much is acceptable for a single member?
"User"
VPS is a good idea. KLA moved to that a while ago and the results were impressive. And yeah, I'll throw down some cash here and there. :)

Sabre
A controvertial move. The site has been good to me over the years but I would rather spend my money elsewhere. Also that is alot of money for a site with no returns.Bit off topic, I came across an interesting paysite business model a while back. While the paysite had a couple of perks being media heavy, the strange part I want to keep an eye on involved the sites shop. Basicly subscribed members got stuff from the shop at cost. While SFO doesn't sell things to my knowlage, and I don't know how well that system works when it comes to turning a profit, it was definatly an interesting model because it gave the die hards something they like cheaper without leaving out the regulars. On the cosmetic front. Sven Co-op had unique weapon skins for donators, and Global Agenda has exp boosters. That makes me think maybe you can do something similar with the game server you run? eg. Running RPG mod, boost paid members. exp does have a gameplay effect, but the games are designed to be played without it. Plus not every SFO member uses the servers anyway. DZComposer
Dude... SFO will not be a paysite. EVER.At the most someone who contributes will only get a little badge that says "I donated" and that's about it. Maybe some perks on the gameserver, but not likely. Also, since when did there have to be a return? If I wanted a return there'd be ads all over the place. I am passionate about Star Fox, and I like having a large community to be a part of. It just so happened that the one I am running is the one that got big. Steve
Even a dollar would be acceptable, as long as we can help DZ xD
Fureox
Maybe some perks on the gameserver, but not likely. What would you be able to do?
DZComposer
As far as how much to donate, that would be entirely up to you. Although I think the system has a $0.50 minimum. What would you be able to do?Reserved slots in case the server gets full, chat text color change, maybe not able to die after the round ends if your team loses (but NOT during the round itself). But I'm not sure I'd do that. DZComposer
Yep. I HATE game-breaking perks. I've seen servers that give donators permanent uber if they go medic, letting engies build 3 sentries and 5 dispensers, unlimited ammo, and other horrible game-breaking bullcrap. TheRedFox8
Should you open up a donation pool, I might consider giving around $10, maybe more. Is that good?
