DZComposer
Seeing as IRC chat has not been successful here at SFO, likely due to IRC's complexity, I am wondering if you guys would be interested in a Jabber server. With the VPS, I will be able to install Jabber, which is an open-source IM system. You can IM other users with it as well has have group chats. You can even use a Jabber client program to connect to it if you want, though a web-based client would be provided.
fox1235
What about that XAT chat boxes. They have ads but you can have webcams.

DZComposer
What about that XAT chat boxes. They have ads but you can have webcams.Self-run, completely ad-free option, or 3rd-party option loaded with ads and tracking cookies. I think the choice is clear. Sabre
maybe because people don't want to talk to each other real time?
Steve
Would be good as a staff tool to discuss things with members when needed, as well as some people will like the option of real time RP instead of using the inbox.
Fluxy
Huh... This is a cool idea. Just curious, though. How would this work? Because Skypeing would also be another method in sense to see if people liked it. You know, just a test to see if people like the idea before actually getting a server. Steve
Well if that's the case why not have a shoutbox?Shoutboxes, like DZ said once, have a lot of security holes and we don't want to risk it. I dunno if the VPS would allow more walls to prevent them tho.
"User"
Shoutboxes, like DZ said once, have a lot of security holes and we don't want to risk it. I dunno if the VPS would allow more walls to prevent them tho.I'm sure that the latest versions of TinyPortal and SMF provide more than enough protection against something that's security compromising. I think I've only seen one issue on the KLA in 4 years or so (for comparison) that had some security breach and that was only because they were still using an old version that hadn't yet been upgrading. I still think the risk is minimum and would provide the forum with more benefits. Shoutboxes are fun! :P
Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted January 13, 2011 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted January 13, 2011 I still prefer to use MSN or Skype. Mostly MSN
