I'm a mess right now. I can barely sleep. Even when I do I'm to drained to do anything. The plus side I finally got a window to watch the much talked about new series called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

While the animation quality is arse on account of almost everything using flash these days to save money, they are least keep the art style simple to compensate. The American accents are also kind of annoiying, but like the animation, you get used to it as if your brain adjusts to it's crap factor.

I watched the 2 part pilot on youtube (on a side note, because he had to split the episodes in half you had MLP part 1 part 2, MLP part 2 part 1 and so on maybe it's my brain but that was kind of funny and weird) and for a pilot it's pretty good. The characters are well defined, the world is set up nicely, the story, while predictable and featuring one (and only 1) bloody annoiying song, is well executed and has a good pace. And of course the big shock and reason I first heard of it, the bookworm who is a shut in, but well read as a result, is the hero. She also has something called a personality, rather then being a cordboard steriotype who has to be shown the error of her bookish ways.

Another thing that suprised me was how sympathetic the villain is. Basicly 2 sisters control the sun and the moon, but the moon sister is really bitter because while all the ponies are happy and dancing in the sun, they hide and sleep in the night... and I just realised I am doing a character analysis on a cartoon about magic ponies. I'll save judgement until I've seen a few more episodes, but yeah, so far it's living up to the hype.

A while back out of the blue I heard about how awesome this series was. Apparently well written, scientifically litterate, rational characters and not political. Whereas most cartoons and TV shows in general tend to be hippy wet dreams with flat strawmen characters used to teach some kind of crap lesson of week about reading and staying indoors is bad. eg. Lazy Town. Or a poorly written mess made soley to sell more toys without any kind of entertainment value. eg. Ben 10.

It's, from what I heard, a suprisingly deep, character driven show that happens to be based on a bunch of pink ponies in some kind of amazonian wonderland. I haven't watched enough to make that decision yet. So yeah, apparently it's an awesome show that happens to have the unfortunate side effect of it's own image.

As I said, stuff like the villain in the pilot being suprisingly symaphetic. Most shows, even popular stuff like Supernatural or Startrek, the villains are evil just cos they are evil and the heroes need something to fight. In the case of the MLP pilot, you get it. It's like "If that happened to me, I'd be angry too." but wether that justifies the extreme length she goes to is what's in doubt, but I'm rambling now.

If you are worried about being seen as a child (in which case why are playing Starfox?) then I recommend Burn Notice which was quite cool when it was on. It's strictly formula, but has a nice pace and atmosphere, and Bruce Campbell is in it.

Huh. Actually sounds kind of interesting. I'm really weirded out right now. Usually when a toy series goes to a show, it sucks. I don't know. Maybe I'll watch this. Maybe.
