How do you speed up videos?

O.K. so I'm working on a video and I'm trying to speed it up. The problem is that I'm using Windows Live Movie Maker, and apparently it does not let you do that. Which is really lame. :P

So I'm kinda in a pickle here and I'm asking you guys if you know of any programs that let you speed videos up. Got any ideas?

Depends. Some pirate it, there are various lite versions, but chances are if you want the full feature set, yes.

Also windows movie maker does have a speed up option, but it's limited to double, or increments of 2.

VEGAS FTW!

It's the single best editing software I have ever used. I use it for stuff like this.

ANYHOW, Vegas 9 sells for around $50 for the basic version, the version I got was the $90 Vegas 9 Platinum version with DVD Architect and Sound Forge. Although, if you want a copy for cheaper, Vegas 7 or 8 is probably cheaper (And is still good. I used Vegas 8 for a while, until I decided to upgrade my software.). Sony Vegas, Sound Forge, and Acid are the software I use to create every single video on my channel.

If you're getting into video, Windows movie maker's a good start. That's what I used for a while, until I got into live action.

If you need any advice on videos, I'm probably the most educated in the field of A/V on here. Just PM me if you want any help finding/using any software.

Hey, I should stick an advertisement for my YouTube channel here while I'm talking about it...

Interesting. I didn't know another animator was on here. I can't remember what my first animation was, but my first film was a 45 minute master peice made over a weekend when I was 13 called Toy Trilogy. That was before all your swanky NLV editing and fancy software. We had a camcorder with a tape and had to use carefully timed pauses. Those were the bad old days...

The result was something like the adam and joe toy films, but without the fancy sets (ours were made out of video boxes)

^ Windows movie maker does, not Windows live movie maker, which is the one I'm using.

Thanks for replying, guys!

Lone Wolf, could you give me a link to your youtube?

Interesting. I didn't know there was a difference. Plus I thought movie maker came standard with every vista/7 install?

Well, they made a newer version for windows 7. I think it's great except it won't let you speed up videos. I figured out a way to do my video though. If any of you are interested, here.

I ended up using both windows movie maker and windows live movie maker. It was a pain, but I'm happy with what came out.

If you still do need it (or anyone else for that matter :D) here's a download link (that I posted) for the Windows XP version of Movie Maker http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TS6RG4W6

It works fine on Vista, you'll just need winRAR to un-archive it.

Anyways, your video was awesome. Very, VERY good use of lighting and the angle was FANTASTIC. Good job!

You should DEFINITELY look into getting Vegas, though, it's great software and would work well for this kind of thing.

EDIT: Friend Request sent.
