Oh God, AJC is so gonna freak when he sees this topic >_>

Anyway, I did love those books when I was younger, although I've been trying to read them again lately and I find myself unable to really get into them. Never watched the TV series.

Personally, I always did love the books when I was younger (Never knew about a TV series till now tho), but I haven't read 'em in years. I should really look into those again...

Oh, and you and AJC are gonna be the best of friends on here! :P

My opinion on the matter is a complex one. Despite some minor flaws and a bit of stupid stupid censorship, I really liked the TV show. The atmosphere and the fact the heroes will kill when they have to rather then 'knocking out' people gave a grim tone to what would otherwise have been a so-so adventure plot. Also constance = awesome. <3<3<3

I decided to read the books in chorological order starting with lord brocktree and... it was crap. Despite being 100 years before the TV show, the character are identical. The events are identical with "Redwall Abbey" replaced with "Castle Salamandstron", but even getting past that there is way to many pointless, boring, irrelivent plot threads going on. eg. A rabbit who escaped the castle to find help is now on a tressure hunt. Why? It's obvious he is going to find some all powerful McGuffin and give it to the hero, so why is chapter after chapter dedicated to it? Given that the whole story is a flashback there is no tension or drama. We know at least which characters are untouchable, so why put them in life or death situations?

For none redwallers, I should point out that the earlier books are later in the timeline, Martin and to a less extent Lord Brocktree, are legends in the canon. It's a bit like me reading starwars episode 1 to Redwalls Return of the Jedi. So the events of this book are a forgon conclusion, but it keeps putting Anikin and Obi Wan in life or death situations that we know they will survive due to the established canon. To continue the comparison to starwars. Imagine if half of starwars followed the vending machine repair guy on board the deathstar for no reason.

I love the TV show though, so the books have promise. I loved the Badrang/Clog conflict in Martin for example.

I love those books, man! I still have all of them on my bookshelf haha. I thought the tv show was great, but I hated it whenever they went away from the book storyline.

Always did love the books, but I do have a similar complaint with them as Sabre does; the plots, villains, locations, and overall stories themselves are quite similar in the way they are written. The books do make for a good read though :)

That's honestly pretty sad, it's like part of my childhood died with him.... :-(

At least Mr. Jacques will be forever immortalized in his literature and the television program based on it! :)

Oh man, Brian Jacques passed away *tears* :( . I loved his books sooo much. In fact, I myself am writing books similar to Redwall. The first book is entitled "Artag of Woodwind." It is a place similar to Mossflower Wood except the country is called "Woodwind" (I have written eighty-five pages of it already! :P ) I just hope to follow in Brian's footsteps someday. Oh, and please note that the names "Woodwind" and "Artag" are copyrighted by me. Please don't steal my stuff, I've worked really hard on it!

(p.s. I have hatched a plan to make a full-length CG animated version of my book using Autodesk Maya 2011. If you want info about anything, just ask me. [Don't get your hopes up too high though, I may or may not do it. :|]

To show you guys my progress, I'll be posting pictures of art and CG images.
